    Smile Michelle's paintings

Hi my name is Michelle and featured here are my oil paintings and digital works i have done.
I love energetic use of colour and tend use it especially in my dance paintings... Ive really got into painting when i did a course in visual art between 2005 to 2006. I still have to keep at it and want to improve..there is alot to develop,
and you never can stop learning'.
I absolutely adore the art works of old masters Egar Degas,Eduard Manet, Claude Monet, Jean Auguste Ingres'.
I have seen some amazing works on this forums and would love to hear some feedback on my works

Here is my website where you can find more works.

You should post your work here, not a link to another site. I don't know about other people, but I usually don't follow links posted in artwork threads.
    Edit: thanks!

    Welcome mushbelle,
    so here we start.
I do not really like the painting from a composition and color point of view.
Composition wise, because dividing the painting into 4 rectangles my focus point is the one down left... where really nothing happens.
You said you love vibrant colors, but for me there is less vibrantion in there just two bright spots on the ground and in the middle background.
Also there are just vertical and horizontal composition lines, which doesn´t fit for dancing, because it doesn´t shows dynamic and movement.
The feeling of the two dancers in the foreground is nice but the messy skintones destroy it mostly.

Well, i hope this wasn´t too much critique, but thats the only way to improve.
Look around, study other artist and fundamental knowledge (lighting, composition, anatamy, color-theory etc.)
Here is a example of a dancing painting (of course with a different dance)
    which i really like.

    Have fun!
    Xaya

[edit:this critique is for the second painting, which was the only one at the time i replied]

Xaya is right. The colours aren't really vibrant. They have a rather smeary-brownish feel to them. Getting vibrant colours is not really easy. You may want to try to use more unmixed colours (and don't mix them on the canvas). Also make sure your canvas is undirty and really white. Also you may want to try some more complementary contrasts.
I think it would help you to study some anatomy and use more reference.

    Great works

Beautiful works Michelle. I think you definitely have a great potential in your paintings. I can seethe passion in most of your dance paintings. And if I'm not wrong you are more of an impressionist artist??
Yes you need to work more on anatomy even if its impression paintings as it defines form and shape better.
The way you handle colors is superb and very versatile. Keep up the good work and post every sketch of yours.

    I love your this painting...

last two attachments didnt work! just so you know. edit them so that the last bracket says /ATTACHMENT

but i like your expressive strokes! theyre nice to look at. and i always love paintings/drawings of people dancing.

one thing to work on would be your hands. try sketching your own hands in different positions, or hands from pictures. yours tend to look sort of clawlike or lifeless.
