    BadGeometry's Spankin' new Sketchbook

I missed you guys dammit. I've been gone from the site for too long, but that doesn't mean I've been slackin' off. I've finally gotten the hang of painting with a tablet, now I just need to hone my skills further.

Anyway, here are some of the things I've been doing over the past couple of months. Some of these are pretty old, but it's good to post 'em anyway I figure.

I have a few more in my sketchbook, but those need to be scanned in.
    ---
The muscle man took me about three hours to do and the life model took about an hour and half, though honestly I had more trouble with that one.

So far, I've learned that I do pretty alright when I've got a reference right next to me.

Anyway, it's good to be back, and I hope to god I don't get lazy about posting and disappear for another year. I'm kind of mad at my self for doing that.

Oh, and here's a link to my old sketchbook. For reference/kicks.

Workin' on another muscle study. I got inexplicably drowsy while working on this so I decided I'd post what I have now and finish it tomorrow. I know there plenty left to do on this image. Rest assured it will get done.

Didn't finish body study number two today. Today was the first day of class and I had a lot to do.

I did, however, conceptualize this guy through a doodle I did during Art History class and I managed to crank out a contour drawing of him with some tone.

I'm really going to drill hands this week. More over, I need to practice drawing them large AND small scale. His right hand looks like a bloody monkey's paw.

Here's something I did while I was waiting for class. About two hours.
I wasn't going for Lex, but it ended up being Lex anyway.
Edit: I just got home and goddamn, I gotta fix his left cheek.

I also wish there was an faster way to scan the life drawings and Bridgman studies I've done this week. Goddamn I'm lazy.

I started coloring my CyberJunk Guy and he's not coming out badly. Gonna take him over to the Critique Center and see what needs fixing.

Also, that little snail-slug critter was gonna be my COW 118 submission, but I totally missed the deadline and didn't know it. Not quite finished since it's just floating in grey space, but I'll add a background to it a little later. It's not exactly high priority at the mo. Thanks to everyone who helped me out with him.

There's a lot of good stuff here! I really like your muscle studies. The only suggestion I have is to keep an eye out for the different colors in things. Like in your figure painting with the blue back drop. He's painted with mostly browns with a bit of red. There's a bit more red in his skin as well as a bit of blue from the reflected light from the back drop.
    Keep it up!

    Two new sketches today.

First one was 45 minute sketch.
    Second was about an hour.

First one needs the values pushed a little further. Also, how's the foreshortening?

If you don't recognize the second one, that's my interpretation of the Evil Mani Mani/Ness' Nightmare from Earthbound. I've been wanting to paint him ever since I beat the game a few months back. I'm glad I started but DAMN. Symmetry, proper anatomy, AND it's made of gold. I'm gonna work it up a little bit more before I take it over to the Crit Center. It's still very rough around the edges, as you can see.

And I'm liking textured brushes. Even stock ones do a good job. I need to get around to making my own.

That static-slug creature is cute, disgusting, and frightening all at the same time. I checked out your old sketchbook, and you've got great control with your pencil. It's always nice to see people practice in a new medium. Good luck with it!

OK, so Mr. CyberJunk (who will henceforth be referred to as Doug the Cybernetics Dealer, Doug for short), is coming along nicely, but the background needs some serious work. I think next week I'll practice nothing but environments.

Spencer is also coming out well. Added some more detail. He'll need a little more and than I'll give him a sky to fly in. Hopefully, that'll be a little more straight forward than a Junkyard.

Hectic weekend. I feel bad 'cause I should have drawn more.

Oh well, here's an entry I'm working on for this week's CHOW and my entry for today's (well, yesterday's as of this post) DSG. Gonna take the DSG further 'cause I'm liking how it's coming out.

Not much today. Updated my entry for Icarus. I'm gonna get red of the Blues and Reds. Not working for me at all.

Hopefully it'll be done by tomorrow. I'm not gonna miss the deadline this time around.

And mucho thanks to Mike Corriero for helping me out with this piece. Still needs work obviously, but it's getting there.

Well so much for posting daily.

Anywho, here's a some new stuff I've been working on lately.
The last one I'll be sculpting out with Sculpi.

Hopefully I'll finish up that drawing later tonight and put it up on the Crit Center.

    Nice stuff man.

I like the muscles and color work. Keep up with those anatomy studies and maybe loosen up with some gestural sketches?

    Haha...Plugman...

Void Leech is cool but the mouth needs some help. Its the focal point of the creature but the teeth don't feel quite right.

I redid the Void Leech following some crits some people on the Vent server mentioned. Still fine tuning a few things.

EBrown: Thanks for your comment man. Yeah, some other people made the same comment about the mouth. I think it looks better now.

Bapsi: Thanks! I really need to start entering the other CHOWs though

Bapsi+Kit Oh jeeze, you guys are right. I gotta do some nose studies...

I really love your color studies/sketches. Nice job on the monster designs too. I think my favorite is the slug-electroball thing. Would be fun to see a couple different versions with color variations. =)

I haven't updated in a while, but hey, here's an update.

This is a concept I'm gonna present to my Advanced 3D Modeling professor on Wednesday. I started working on it Saturday night and did a little bit more work on it tonight. Once I block out the rest of her body I'll post it up on the CC.

I think I'll make her head (minus the 'fro) a little larger. Right now she's about 7.5 heads tall, so I might try and take it down to 7 or 6.75. Something around there.

I'm also thinking of making her facial features a little larger as well.

I need to work more on the face in general. It looks squished to me. I don't know. Maybe if I tone down the value on the cheeks...
    Any thoughts?

Mudbox 2009 came out the other day and I downloaded the free trial.

Thought I'd try my hand at a good ol' fashioned skull study. I'm pretty happy with it so far, but let me tell you, those teeth are a real pain, especially when your sculpting the whole skull from one piece.

Gonna finish the teeth a little later.

Tomorrow I'm gonna try and finish blocking out Sascha.

    bapsi: Thanks!
As a matter of fact, I just finished knocking out the teeth (no pun intended). I gotta clean them up a bit more. The top row looks too uniform and the bottom row I totally rushed. But I think I'm done with it for the night. Been working on it for almost five and a half hours now!

But I'm happy with it. Later on I'll finish adding details and texture to it.

Sascha is 95% done. Gonna post her up in critique in a bit. She's almost there. I still need to get reference for her gun and shoes.

Cranked out June in about two and a half hours. She's still needs plenty of work, but she's coming along alright.

Also, I have a 3D model for June that I rigged and animated for my final project in Adv. Animation at school. Still a few kinks there but I'll work those out later on.

I'm working on a model for Sascha as well. I'll be posting some screens of her when I have something that doesn't look like a bunch of boxes stuck together.
