    BLACK MILK

today I had a special effect/makeup workshop together with two makeup-artists. I didn't take much pictures, but I filmed a lot of making-of and gory experiments for the "behind the scenes", hehe. Great fun. I'm pretty new to sculpting.

I made a strict policy that everyone should follow anatomy sheets studying basic facial muscles. My philosophy for this project is to stay close to principles of realism as a starting point. After the fundamentals are on place one is allowed to work more stylized and creative.

featuring some decorations on the skull seen on the previous illustrations. Basic face muscles are sculpted in some plastic wax (thing) and dead skin is a thin layer of spray latex ripped apart after drying. The skull will be re-done but still in the same direction in materials, technique etc. I plan to cover it even more with those thinner muscle layers and even attaching an ear

    any suggestions, criticism?

hey man, i would suggest working on getting a higher contrast, just to pull out the form even more. its kinda flat but that is just me. and what ever is farthest away, give it a softer touch.

Other than that, your doing really great on the structure of the anatomy. keep it up.

what do you mean? it is a photo you know. I didn't use a 50mm or anything. I didn't want to enhance contrasts because that is the original design. I only grayscaled and keyed in the background

    Your stuff really inspires me!
The only thing about the skull that bothers me is that the teeth are too perfect. I would suggest chipped-not-so-shiny teeth. Unless that's something you wanted.

Edit: Although looking back on them the teeth don't bother me that much. Maybe I'm just nitpicking

bharat: thank you. I'll keep on studying but right now the only thing I should focus on is studying for exams

Clochette: thank you. love to hear that from you :=)

DStraX: jeg tar imot kritikk jeg Jeg skal tenke på det. Jeg vil nok utvide muskeldekorasjonen og ytterligere hudfliker og lignende for å støtte opp med formen. Kanskje jeg kommer nærmere det du mener da også

    zalxemptyx: Thanks a lot

FearSelf: I'll think of it. I might try to sand them down a bit and see how that works.

Light studies from photos of a friend wearing xmas lights. I found these to be quite complex as there were multiple light sources in different colors and skin.. skin! As skin is both translucent and reflective; determining the behavior of the light and colors really feels uncontrollable. we try

So I tried to observe, enhance and simplify. Never mind the anatomy

So my last exam is tomorrow. I thought it would be nice to relax with a peaceful landscape. Firstly I made a tiny thumb just to decide the colorpalette. I later doodled off a horizon, trees and atmosphere

That sackboy thing is my first try at Colors! on the iphone of a friend of mine. I was pretty troubled because you paint on a touch-sensitive screen - not pressure sensitive. The pressure sensitive controls were manipulated with the axis sensors in the phone. Practically that means that I had to tilt the phone while doing a stroke to get those nice curves. This must be much easier on the nintendo ds which has a pressure sensitive screen - using a pen!

Why drawing a sackboy? well my friend challenged me to. It is not like I determine whether you can draw with a device or not just by doing a sackboy.. (see earlier posts)

see the painting process here Yes, stupid me rotated the phone.

started on the sketch with a palette I've used in this painting:

however I wanted to improve the feel and learn from my mistakes. the BW is just to see how it works without color. There are people in this world that cannot tell green from red. Yep, 5-8% of males. Males happened to populate this forum btw. nvm. yay im done with my exams!

since I haven't done much finished pieces this year, I was thinking about working more on this hellish batman/mothman thing. Every artist might eventually set out to illustrate their hell. This could be my first piece in Egil's Inferno

So ive lined up the character's anatomy. So far it is from my imagination, so I need some pointers from you.

gota say i disagree with ashess on the idea of getting ridof your sketchyness. i think that a good aesthetic of your work showing the build up and inner workings. makes it more human and gives it a quirky look of a sort if unsureness in the form but that being intentional if you get me? not a crit of the artists hand!
crit for the actual form so far id have to say the foot on the right. seems like it needs some finalising of it.
i love the whispyness of the wings. is that a tool youve used over the photoshop brushes or is it a layering? its such an effective look. dosnt have a man made apeal at all. keep going its forming nicely!

all looks pretty good, I loved the original sketch so could be a great piece. I think the deltoids should be overlapping the chest more, as they're hunched over, and his right leg (our left) is much better and fuller form wise than the other, which looks a little too concave. Lovely background colours tho.
