fantastic work on that SP. I am sad to here about your tablet, is it the pen cause if you drop them to much the special coil can separate. Which is totally fixable, I have done it before. Hope that is what is wrong. you should google it ay. keep it up as always.

palladium: Thank you I appreciate it
Jeremy Swan: Thanks! I freelanced and got a new one, I just had a crappy one
Danny_K: Thanks, I do daily gestures
SO! I freelanced and got myself a new Intuos 4 tablet. Which has been great to use after some adjustments. I've been meaning to update because I've been drawing daily, but the thought of scanning just depresses me. I'll try to do it tonight however
For now I did this quick sketch for fun and recorded the process to get some advice on my black and white process
Thanks
Ahhh! CA is driving me insane with this needing to bump thing
You could try to incorporate shadows to make a whole of the painting. The mermaid is floating above the rocks. With the sunset you can really create atmosphere.
cifgha: I get what you mean though it was only a b&w sketch so it'll probably be left at this stage, but maybe.. one day. Thanks
Right not exactly what I wanted to scan, there's too many studies so it's easier to upload the little bits of imagination work
Took waaay too long for what it is, just attempted to render some more. No ref so I can see some of the areas I need to work on:
Concept:
Need advice on which thumb to pick, it's for a piece I want to do

I just see improvements throughout this sketchbook. Keep up the good work.
Hey thanks for the comment, directions like these always help me see better.
Maybe it's me and maybe not, but you seem to be having a problem drawing hands. To be specific palms and fingers, hmmm - try to work on that area a bit more.
This quote of yours is really interesting - Trying to win this mind game we call art.
Win we shall!
mosishmon: Thank you
Kerah: I've been practising hands so hopefully it'll be helping. Thanks

AH! I keep on meaning to scan but it just piles up. Scanning plus the CA manager make updating hell so here's some of the digital studies. I'll upload more sooner
Collars:

Bumskee (Min Yum) Study:
Quick life:
A study that took WAY too long for what it is, almost 4 hours on this and it's from life. Not too sure how I feel about it:
Another life, studying form. This one was 2 hours:
Cheers
nice to see you posting again : D
good update, the mickey mouse ball looks a little wonky.
great idea on the collar studies aswell they look swell
The faces are looking better but your proportions still need work, the hands and feet especially, their two small. Hands are about 3/4s the length of the inside of your forearm give or take, or approximately the length of your face or foot. Feet are about half the length of your shin.
Also for the mickey mouse ball, if you make a new layer and take a soft brush with the flow turned down and paint a large soft high light on the ball I think it could help show its roundness.
keep working at it.

DTP: Thanks for checking it out
surfandsnow: Thanks for taking the time, both critiques are really solid and helpful. I really appreciate the tip on the ball, i was trying to do that but for some reason didn't use the soft brush
Quick update for tonight, once again I didn't have time to scan so here's the digital stuff. Pretty weak update as most of the work for today is in pencil.
Anyways painting is too big a weakness of mines so I did these quick environment studies to focus on just blocking colour and thinking about light. It was actually really helpful - about 1hour 10mins all together
This:
I need to do more personal imagination work its becoming too boring with it
hey nibras ! before thinking of improving your painting skills, you should def draw a lot more from observation and imagination . I think you're still thinking in flat, instead of thinking about the volumes when you're drawing . I find you're seriously lacking of basic understanding of the human shapes . i think you should be more specific on your studies, or you'll make weak improvments, because your mind will try to memorize tons of things at the same time, you'll end up by knowing nothing . Maybe studying anatomy and values for several months would be a good thing, besides drawing a lot from observation . You have a big potential lady, just work hard on your weaknesses ! Keep it up
Hey Nibras! You're doing well, studies are great! I like the one of the red brick looking thing, you've captured the color and material nicely. Keep going with the still life paintings, I'd suggest starting to try a few more complex objects, and spending maybe a few days working at one still life. If you can push that one painting further than anything you've done before, even if it has taken longer, it will be a breakthrough and lift all of your other work with it. It will help when drawing from imagination. When you draw from your head, take maybe 4 or 5 minutes and close your eyes, and really visualize what it is you see in your head. Try to picture it as you would see it in real life, and treat it almost like a life drawing. It sounds obvious, but it really does help to think about it.
You know, as far as critiques go, there really isn't a whole lot I can tell you that will make a difference. Keep drawing, keep painting, keep looking at other artist's work and obvserving how they solved similar problems, and things slowly come together, piece by piece. You'll make a lot of discoveries on your own, and those are probably more important than having someone tell you to work on anatomy or or use bigger brushes strokes or whatever.

much improvement Nibras! hmm.. I can't say much for color because I too am still working at it. I will say though that your understanding of form has gotten better, especially with the red brick study and the mickey mouse ball (which I commend you for doing!) turning the form with a face on a spherical surface seems tough but I think you were able to pull it off especially with surfandsnow's tip on the big soft high light.
kikindaface and Jasper_ have already mentioned a lot of good advice so I guess you can only take it from there. just keep drawing and having fun![]()

Well from what i saw you still need to push anatomy studies to get better result. But i like your progress overall. Only thing i can really say is just keep working, spend as much time as you can on studies and you will get results.
M
kikindaface: Thanks for the solid advice, will do in following it. I'll concentrate on working on weakness areas and doing more life studies
Jasper_: I know what you mean but the advice makes a lot of sense so it is encouraging. Thanks for taking the time
teapo: Thanksyeah just got to work on it
MatejaPetkovic: Thanks, yeah I need to spend a lot more time and do more anatomy
Started scanning so I'll do it in chronological order and small parts, uploading takes waay too long
Loomis Study:
Loomis from memory:
Photo that takes way too long for what it is:
Wes study, again way too long:
Skeleton Study, tooo slow:
Cheers
Very nice studies, I am refreshing parts of that right now too, to bring them back into memory.
Practice is good, but always try to use what you just learned, to check if you really understood it. The skeleton is very nicely done, and it doesnt matter if it took you longer than expected, as long as you remember it when drawing a character.
It comes in handy especially when you work on muscles and know where which muscles is attached to.
Keep it up, I know its hard work.

really nice to see your improvement from the first page!
the anatomy and some of your designs are really good! i would love to see how you will evolve during the next month ... keep it up!
hey nibras! youre getting way better! the anatomy studies look great (nice clean lines) there are some areas that look a bit off though. make sure to constantly check relations between things, like the "line" from say, an elbow to the knee, or shoulder to the top of the head, etc. but it looks like youre understanding what youre drawing, so thats good
make sure to study colors and light as well; i think thats what holding you back the most with imaginative stuff at the moment.
just keep working and youre gonna be something big in a few yearscheers!
lol you're last comment in my sb gave me a laugh, thanks! You're doing good work, some value studies of white objects under consistent light sources could help with your tonal application. On the anatomy/character stuff, pay attention to hand sizes, I think its always safe to be a bit on the bigger side than smaller with hands. Cheers!
WWWWWWHHHHAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOWWWWW YOU ARE AWESOME STUDERER i really liked the coller an mickey mouse studies the whole last post the skeleton XDXDXD YOU RRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!

Vaejoun: Yeah you're right, I am trying to apply it in my personal work. Thanks for the advice
Elophant: Thanks, I hope I do
lancer_idenoure: I've actually been using that method. Yeah colours are a weakness so I've started doing life studies, thanks
Metal Fingers: I get what you mean, i checked out hand proportions and they're much bigger. Thanks, I also did some white object studies like you said
SMILEFACE: haha thanks, you're the one that's great
Okaay, trying to catch up with the scanning. This ranges from 10 days ago to about 4 days ago. I've still got to scan the stuff from then till today. I did some still lives today but I'll upload all that stuff tomorrow

Hi Nibras! Thank you very much for your advices to draw/paint faces. They'll greatly help. Helped very much yet and I only read and understood it. Need to practice that stuff a lot.
You are total sick dude! Can't force myself to do 100 hands. haha.
I only need to get up earlier and don't lose my mind on the screen like it's always. Computers are so distracting.
Very good you are working like crazy. All the effort will pay off.
Keep it up.

impressive, dont stress yourself about how long it takes you to do each study, studying takes time and thats the way it is, so take your time and dont rush.
