As a critique however the image with the girl holding the wineglass just feels weird to me. The face is booth to small but also lacking in features, and lacking an upper part of the head also the eyes are really high up. I'm sure this was intentional but still the effect to me is just like the head was forgotten.

Thanks for hitting up my book Love your stuff keep doing what your doing.

I really thing you should study and incorporate some the shapes and deail found in the neck area for your digital work.

Some of your necks feel out of place possibly because they don't have the same realistic quiality your heads do - get that collar bone in to suggest the changes in direction in the chest and where the muscles join - the visible muscles in a twisted or tense neck, and sometimes more femanine curves in that region.

The above features are seen here and there, but go through your last page and see if you agree with me with your digitals

You have nice colors and lighting but I dont need to further clarify what most people here are saying

Jakers, thank you! I have to admit I don't pay so much attention to anatomy in my speedpaints (they're mostly about colors), but I will post more separate anatomy studies soon, including necks.


New speedie: Forest


I'd like to call this done with "dry airbrush". It was made by cutting masks out of paper, masking certain areas with it and rubbing pastel dust on the unmasked areas, thus creating hard edges with very soft gradients within. It was really fun!

great sketchbook, you have a very good eye for color, in your paints though it would be cool to see some experimentation with different textures and saturations as everything is very highly saturated and rendered very smoothly. mixing it up a bit could create some interesting results.

Exquisite Beast - yes, 60 second poses. It's easy to capture them very quickly if you do lots and lots of copying from other sources also. I've learnt so see quickly by copying old master drawings and paintings, and drawing from fashion magazines. It's a great exercise for the eye.

But I have a problem with that girl, "Oh noes!" ! She has a much bigger head the she must have no? And her shoulder line is strange too. I have the bizarre impression that she holds somebody else head!

Wow scheint ja immre mehr Deutsche hier zu geben! Jedenfalls machen Deine Portraits schon gute Fortschritte. Hier und da sieht man allerdings, dass die Unterliegenden Strukturen nicht bekannt sind. Vielleicht solltest Du ab und zu mal einen Schädel einzeichnen, um zu sehen, ob irgendwas daneben liegt.

Anyway, VERY strong colours! I especially love that Salome-one! Also, I`d love to see some more traditional stuff in here.

Still life setup, painted in oils on paper. About 2 1/2 hours.

that still life is great, its awesome that your not just focusing on just one medium!

In the painting in #106 you have some alignment issues where the eyes nose and mouth arent on the same parallel - though the mouth has a pretty big movement range and is more forgiving for expression skewed features is something that always jumps off the page so double checking them in the future would be great.

Aw I can no longer see the gestures that were mentioned...but they sound promising. see you!

cool paintings, you obviously can color but i would check a lot of your proportions early on. also you have a similar problem to me, i think maybe you are only interested in the face for the most part, so the rest of the body suffers a little bit...maybe push the rest of the body as well as the face.

Room, drawn with a so-called proportion checker (proportional divider). This tool is beyond awesome! Had I measured everything by eye only, it'd haven taken me more time and frustration to make an accurate drawing. However, with the proportion checker it took me only about 15-20 minutes and was very easy.
