Pretty cool work here. I really like the painting you did based on the story of Salome! Excellent composition on that. I'd love to see more!

Is it just me, or is the Posemaniacs figure drawing applet presenting an unusual abundance of butts? I think if I continue with this for a few days, I'll be a master at drawing the human buttocks. just kidding.

Your colour works are beauty, I really like the soft rendering technique you often use. And nice PoseManiacs studies too! It's not bad to master the anatomy of the behindusGreat sb, will check back.

"assiduus usus uni rei deditus et ingenium et artem saepe vincit" - cicero
This is an absolutely stunning thread. And it has been an insperation to read it. Especially your shading flows really well to me.
And yes posemanicas liks Butts for some reason
As a critique however the image with the girl holding the wineglass just feels weird to me. The face is booth to small but also lacking in features, and lacking an upper part of the head also the eyes are really high up. I'm sure this was intentional but still the effect to me is just like the head was forgotten.
cool stuff here and i love the color tests allot u should do more post morelike how u handle color
tx tx for droping by
see ya
cheers![]()
Thanks for hitting up my bookLove your stuff keep doing what your doing.
I really thing you should study and incorporate some the shapes and deail found in the neck area for your digital work.
Some of your necks feel out of place possibly because they don't have the same realistic quiality your heads do - get that collar bone in to suggest the changes in direction in the chest and where the muscles join - the visible muscles in a twisted or tense neck, and sometimes more femanine curves in that region.
The above features are seen here and there, but go through your last page and see if you agree with me with your digitals
You have nice colors and lighting but I dont need to further clarify what most people here are saying![]()

AsaB, thank you
Eux, thank you too. Yes, the face of the figure with the wineglass... the eyes are indeed to high. It used to happen to me very often some years back.
pbgse - cheers!![]()
Jakers, thank you!I have to admit I don't pay so much attention to anatomy in my speedpaints (they're mostly about colors), but I will post more separate anatomy studies soon, including necks.
New speedie: Forest
I'd like to call this done with "dry airbrush". It was made by cutting masks out of paper, masking certain areas with it and rubbing pastel dust on the unmasked areas, thus creating hard edges with very soft gradients within. It was really fun!

great sketchbook, you have a very good eye for color, in your paints though it would be cool to see some experimentation with different textures and saturations as everything is very highly saturated and rendered very smoothly. mixing it up a bit could create some interesting results.

invinciblewombat, thank you(your name rocks, btw)
I don't see lots of high saturation but I'll experiment more with textures soon =)
This was originally done for the Anatomy workshop at CGtalk but I don't have the patience to finish it. The original piece is by Diego Maia. He and others provided some really great 3D sculptures for copying in the workshop.

Bahahaha! Those are 60 seconds?? Yours look like amazing figures, mine look like stick men with arthritis.... Great work - something to aim for!
Fine Work

enthombed - cheers
pbgse - glad you like it, cheers! ^^
Exquisite Beast - yes, 60 second poses. It's easy to capture them very quickly if you do lots and lots of copying from other sources also. I've learnt so see quickly by copying old master drawings and paintings, and drawing from fashion magazines. It's a great exercise for the eye.
mentler, thank you!

"Oh noes!"
... and a 100% closeup. I tried to paint nice skintones (like too often! *cough*)
The next speedpaint will be painted in oils!![]()

Nice luminosity on the one called "Day of the Wrath"!
But I have a problem with that girl, "Oh noes!" ! She has a much bigger head the she must have no? And her shoulder line is strange too. I have the bizarre impression that she holds somebody else head!

Ooh, I envy your PS skillz!!!You do some very snazzy skin tones. I think "Oil Lamp" is my fave pic ... very nice. 8)
Keep rockin' the anatomy studiez, especially head/neck structure; btw, isn't Posemaniacs fun?!
Cheers![]()
Look, see! Nifty art!http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=99803
Hey! Check out my blog here
Anyway, VERY strong colours! I especially love that Salome-one! Also, I`d love to see some more traditional stuff in here.
Dang! The posemaniac figures shows major improvement in just a few sheets. Really nice!
AmontilladoAg - cheers! I definitely have to do more anatomy studies - much more! Posemaniac is quite addictive and that's a good thing
Faust - danke sehrich versuchs.
baka - ahoy there!![]()
Flaskpost - are you sure? I only know I have to practise more. Thanks! =)
Still life setup, painted in oils on paper. About 2 1/2 hours.
The composition sucks, I know. But I'm kind of happy with the drawing.

i actually really like the still life. id honest to god would love to see more.![]()
that still life is great, its awesome that your not just focusing on just one medium!
In the painting in #106 you have some alignment issues where the eyes nose and mouth arent on the same parallel - though the mouth has a pretty big movement range and is more forgiving for expressionskewed features is something that always jumps off the page so double checking them in the future would be great.
Aw I can no longer see the gestures that were mentioned...but they sound promising. see you!
Portfolio: http://www.jakecollinge.com
baka, thanks! I really want to do more of those still lifes...There are so many things I need to work on; someone clone me, please
(j/k).
Jakers, thank you. That imageigloo server where I uploaded the gesture drawings is down thus killing a part of my sketchbook... now I have to upload and re-link lots of stuff. And I'm working on those faces in general

here's another digital piece (I just can't help but messing with interesting color schemes!)
Drawing from life - my dad, listening to music

cool paintings, you obviously can color but i would check a lot of your proportions early on. also you have a similar problem to me, i think maybe you are only interested in the face for the most part, so the rest of the body suffers a little bit...maybe push the rest of the body as well as the face.

The Moth
Room, drawn with a so-called proportion checker (proportional divider). This tool is beyond awesome! Had I measured everything by eye only, it'd haven taken me more time and frustration to make an accurate drawing. However, with the proportion checker it took me only about 15-20 minutes and was very easy.
Watch this to see how it works: http://www.thecardermethod.com/clips.html
I made my proportional divider myself, using solid cardboard.

I am tired of painting skintones... Means I have to practice other stuff.
