    jinxtigr can has SKTCHBK

This seems like a very good place to keep a sketchbook, so I'm taking a minute to do some sketchdumping. So that people I criticize can know not to take me too too seriously

3D stuff- this is all 'Terragen' but it's not a preset, it's my attempt at going photoreal with that terrain gen software.

...using my nifty new smallest-size Wacom tablet

That will do until I draw new stuff for the sketchbook- I just wanted to quickly throw in some of the stuff I had sitting around (both natural media and digital). It's probably going to be all digital now because of the nature of what I'm trying to do

Hey, good to start a scetchbook here, doesn't hurt anyways, right?

For a start, you should do what everyone else is also telling to beginners, do anatomy-studies, study from life a draw whatever you can. I think the most crucial lesson for you now would be to set up a routine that you draw every day. Because that's what evvery succesful artist here does.

Apart from that, train your eye and your hand, you can train your eye with doing some stilllifes or draw whatever you like, but always question yourself while doing it. Does it look right? are the proportions off? Eventually, things like structure and understanding of planes and value will kick in. And the hand get better the more you draw. It's really that simple.

    Go, do your best!

    Hello

I think studying real animals before cartooning them would help you alot. Take some pictures of a cat and try to draw them realistically and then start to cartoon. Keep practicing

You might want to check this anatomy chart out:

Sweet, thank you. I am starting from horrible, retarded zero. Right now I'm trying to pick up the correct disciplines for stuff as basic as how you hold a stylus, your arm etc.

Will keep posting stuff, good or bad. It's going to be years before it's actually good.

I've actually studied the veterinary illustrations once posted here- extensively- printed them out, analysed them etc. ANY information like this is precious to me. I just can't put it into gear yet as my draftsmanship is so poor and my brain doesn't understand how the shapes work yet.

    Returning From Long Journeys

    It's me again...

I still tend to hate myself and my art fiercely, but it's a real eye-opener to see the posts just above. wow.

I took up drawing a daily comic for about a year, until the stress of trying to do that burned me out. I sputtered along for a bit, going as much as a week without drawing, and now I'm trying to get back into things in spite of feeling very discouraged.

It looks like I learned some things even if they're not very much...

I've added NSFW to the thread title, because I would hate to not be able to post recent comics- I continue to be really determined to draw anthropomorphic bodies in nudity and sexual situations even though it forces me to hybridize and make up anatomy- at least I can't copy from any existing sources! I'm sure it would look a lot better if I could.

Much happier new year than 2007

Drew a sort of airplane-spaceship for the comic today, thought I'd toss it in my sketchbook. Doing the lighting, and hinting at transparent windows in the ship, were fun. I wanted to do a burnt titanium look on the rocket nozzles but next time I try that, I'll look up some photo reference...

Some of it's just inability, but yes. I'd like to be able to incorporate stuff like anatomy, 3-dimensionality, while still having not lots of lines. There's a lot to learn and I get very discouraged, but I haven't given up yet
