    The Gabblemancer Abides

    Aww hells...why not an introduction.

I've been lurking 'round CA (you know the gig)

I'm 16, graduating this year, and planning to go into art in college (as a major? I'm not sure about that). I've drawn for as long as I can remember...but look--it doesn't mean I'm very good . I will keep this thread up until mid February when I will be going to Costa Rica for six months....( I donno, I might have access to a scanner...). Comments are amazing but I like crits just if well if not better! Erm...that's it.

The first one is Referenced from a book...I don't know which. The others are mostly mine, but a few other book studies.
    C&C would be amazing, thanks!

    more works

Here is a WIP for chow 100, Medusa The Queen....still really rough. Then there is a random figure I drew in the car on the way up to ski today. I didn't use ref for either of these. I know that the roman figure is too stiff, and the head is too big/legs look funny...but I'd really appreciate crit on the WIP.

    Thanks!

    Kai

P.S. is there a way I can change the thumbnail for the thread?

You've got talent. I saw a peeeeenis haha. Y'know my mum scolded me once for drawing a penis and I felt bad so I didn't draw one again for a long time.

Yeah...funny how people have an affect like that on ya.

But anyways, I like your approach to the way you study and how you draw is very nice. The only suggestion I will make is that focusing on one thing at a time makes it better faster.

    Hope to see more. peace!

Lol, yeah, being sixteen I'm kinda nervous about what my mom will think when she looks through my sb and sees the anatomy studies.....

I'll take that into account and do some more in depth sketches an' stoof!

Bah, don't be nervous, if you really want to be an artist, you have to study, study and study everything! If you work hard now you're laying down a great foundation to your skills. They're looking good, keep 'em coming! .

.max, good on you for posting : ) and thanks for visiting my sketch book! I'll try to do more stuff tonight but this is all I have so far today.

They're both drawings of my hand..one of them (the second) in a mirror. I had it placed between my legs and I was sitting on my bed--I couldn't keep a position-- soooo...it looks like crap; good for practice anyways.

I'll try to gather at least three more *good* images before I post again : s

    Arrrr updates

Me trying to use posamaniac's 90 sec thing (horrible failure), an anatomy study from a book, and a referenced colored pencil piece--me trying to learn the medium.

    Crits welcome! Thanks!

don't think me bad for my "racy" avatar..it just shows my newest work : s

god maybe I am a pervert tho....

The posemaniacs aren't a failure! I'm impressed, I can't even finish mine in 30 seconds, haha. They look pretty good to me, besides the bottom right one, it seems like you captured the gesture pretty well.

Studying anatomy always helps everybody, even though it's really boring
Studying from life really helps, you could draw a family member or friend watching tv or doing something lazy-like which doesn't involve moving.

Also, there are some really good books. Hogarth's "Dynamic Figure Drawing" and Loomis are excellent. (The .zip file has all of the books.)

I know what you mean about the anatomy, I always hide my figure drawings so my mom doesn't think I'm some sort of pervert haha. And your thread thumbnail is the first picture you attached to your first post, incase nobody answered you. You can go back and edit the post to change it.

Keep posting! I'll keep coming back

The drawing with colored pencil came out pretty well, and I think that you did very good on those gesture drawings
    Keep it coming!

Hey guys, thanks for stopping by my sketch book...it always brightens my day!

Papaphobian: Thanks for the tip on the book, I have been looking for one that I can take on my foreign exchange trip in Feb. Yeah I kinda hide one of my sketch books even though I wouldn't get into trouble...it'd be just plain awkward . Thanks for the info about the thumbnail...for a while I though it corresponded to my avatar. Half of the poses are 30 second the other half are 90 second... the better half....so ya see? I still suck

Phc: Good tah hear from you/glad you're still at it! Always nice to have people telling me to keep going. I'll get some more studies up tonight; I really don't have time for a colored piece, but more to come...Sunday? You're from Brazil? Too don't speak Portuguese, only some Spanish.

Really tho..is it ok to post a copy of a photo w/o permission?
A simple stamp tool and my sig is gone on the piece

    hi kai,
i am very impressed by you stuff! you allready (16! bah i should have trusted myself earlier...) have some great drawing skills & as far as my eyes can a-na-lyze you allready know how to improve - dont bother about the naked bodies& so on, i say its kind of pervert to kill interrest - interrest (if there) is a thing fully natural! why not using the potential of interrest? hmm, i wasted(yea, maybe i needed it... maybe....) some years of mine just because i ignored the interrests of mine - interrest is a present... blablabla
yea what else to say... ah thx for dropping by at my sketchbook! i hope to see more from you, its allready subscribed - peace!

Kai Black: I just wanted to hit you back and thank you for your comment in my sketchbook that I just recently started building. "Crazy crazy mad huh, lol?" I gotta a lot more coming and I hope you like it all as a lump sum.
Just to lay a nice comment down on your page in truth I really think you have some really great anatomy studies going here. Keep up the fantastic work for real. Much love!
