how cool is this? around 1.4 billion lightyears away, this galaxy is shooting a focussed stream of deadly radiation at a neighbouring galaxy. its like its one massive photon cannon! this is the stuff geeks' wet dreams are made of

Polar jets are insane. Check out this one from M87 - wiki says it's ~5000 light years long.
the universe is something that I've always been in love with. Any time there's a documentary about space on the learning channel, or anything similar I'm all over it like white on rice!
I like this thread already, hope it can grow!

Space is damn cool, although kinda scary
Sepulverture, i think what you have there might be the first evidence of an intergalactic wiener![]()
My catastrophybook
I'm afraid of nothing, it's the only way to be.
That's a herbig-haro object. They're much smaller than the black hole jets (still ridiculously massive though) and are produced when a mummy gas cloud and a daddy gas cloud love each other very much. I'm surprised sepulverture was able to get the uncensored version.
I lie. It's a polar jet from a coalescing star.

So that's where them space terrorists had them weapons!Nuke galaxy!
meh. I'm sure it has an 6 meter exhaust port on it somwehere.
Great, now I have the sudden urge to play EvE online again...Noooo!
Thats insane! Space never stops supriseing me...and kinda scary don't ya think?
That's awesome. Think of all the science-fictional possibilities, such as a superadvanced civilization harnessing or even creating one of these as a weapon.
Sucks how the coolest and prettiest natural things that exhist are most likely to kill a person.
That wouldn't keep me from touching it, actuallyBut it's so faaaaaaaar away.
That is very cool.
Sigh, humanity is still in it's infancy. There is sooooo much out there to learn.
History channel has a series called "The Universe" ...actually it's on tonight talking about the Milky Way. (Video is part 1 the sun episode).
They also had a "Mega Disasters" episode on gamma ray bursts, apparently after the big bang they are the most powerful explosions in the universe but last only a few milliseconds to a few minutes.
Coronal mass ejections of our sun...
You are a level 8 ninja and even though you have a lot of weapons sometimes your ninja moves are your most powerful.
Thanks for the vids silvertone, I was looking forward to watching this but thanks to my work schedule I'm usually asleep when it comes on.
