Thanks bro. No I've been dead on my sketch book. Bastard programming job keeps me busy 22/7. That gives me a some idea what to do over lunch.

I would love to see your pre drawings - blue and all.. thought that might be hard with the 'non photographic blue' pencils. Cest la vie.

Man I should dump on my sketchbook for the last two years of non functioning.. oh well. When I am more sober and alert.

    Thanks guys.

Just dropping some Hellboy fan work here. I've been getting back into anatomy studies, as I went on a dumb hiatus of them for a long time >_<. Starting next week I'll be attending some life drawing classes twice a week with a couple friends, but I'm also going to do at least an hour of anatomy studies every day for thirty days, then more drawing outside of that. Got tonights anatomy drawings sitting here, just need to scan them.

An hour isn't much, but it's something.

P.s. Fat hellboy punching himself in the butt!

Went digital tonight. Here's my pelvis study and the reference images used.

About an hour at this stage.

Your ink stuff is so lively, I love it. =D It'd be nice to see some of that energy in your digital stuff as well, it's well rendered but looks really stiff by comparison.

Thanks Revidescent. It's definitely more fun drawing with pen and paper and I get a lot more involved with it. But it'd be really great to get that same vibe in digital illustrations too, yeah. Cheers!

And a small change to the pelvis for good measure. Not sure if it's noticable other than the flip.

Here's tonights study and the ref images used. And an update on my colour poster. Keen to just carry on with this pelvis pic tomorrow night and try to flesh it out more. If anyone reading knows of any good references for the pelvis for this view (or the one posted above), I'd really appreciate the sharing!

Final update for tonight, starting to get happy with this one, need to fix the lineart that's being obscured by a few overlay washes though (orange n blue overlay layers).

Constructive feedback would be very much appreciated.

    Hello.

Tonight's life drawing class. Was disappointed at my effort, but at least I found a new fun technique to try out...

    thanks mate

Just got some markers and new lead to try out. Really really loving these, gonna try some hand studies right now with them for my anatomy study.

I bought them because I really love the work of Nicolas Marlet, and really wanted to give his technique a try. I have some white lead I was hoping to be able to scrape over the black ink with to make things like creases and studs in dark material, which Marlet does really well... Unfortunately while this approach works well on moleskine paper, it doesn't work so well on watercolour paper which I need to use for the marker pens... So I'll need to find another material that'll apply white in thin lines atop black ink. Ah well no worries.

Hey guys. Just got back from a few drinks with a friend for her birthday. Was fun, thought I'd finish up with a sketch of a head.

I'm still really, really loving these markers.

thanks for the advice. i dig your style. bold lines, exaggerated characters. try using newsprint or something equally huge for lifedrawing. you get to really let the lines rip and get your arm going instead of gettin sketchy lines in a tiny moleskin.

    Thanks you two.

the_original_sean: Cheers for that. I'm definitely keen to try a larger area at tomorrow nights class.

Tonight I did a couple of sketches from Hogarth's "Drawing the Human Head". Learned a couple of tid bits about the head, and where things should be. After that I painted over the top of the middle diagram to some degree, then started to try to paint a male head from imagination after using the graphed framework as a starting point.

The ear's DEFINITELY going to be my next victim...

Is the ear not further back than that, and somewhat lower/smaller? According to this, it'd be on the bottom-left quarter of that inner circle you drew.

I'm not sure if the proportions in that guide are right/Loomis-y, though. Some of the heads on page 2 look a bit odd, and it seems like this guy has the eyebrow line higher up, and so there's less of a forehead and the cranium is smaller. Come to think of it, that probably contributed to a bad habit of mine to make the face too big compared to the head... In any case, I just checked Loomis and he agrees with the ear thing: http://www.fineart.sk/show.php?w=17

Thanks Lulie, you're right it looks off right now.

Just posting this one up tonight... bit of shape fun (defining the silhouette first then trying to fill the middle with a head of some description).

    Fun little exercise.
