Old Is Old - New Is New

SO I'm dedicating this morning entirely to scanning everything from my latest sketchbook (#88) and posting it here. Looking at all my old posts in comparison I can say that taking a break from CA did me worlds of good as far as learning how to work on my own and develop my own style and all that shnazzy stuff.

So this first batch is just some of the old junk I have lying in my folders as I wait for the scanner to heat up (old piece of shit)...

OH YEAH. And I'm definitely going to SVA for animation. 8D I got 'priority waitlisted' for RISD but in truth I was never really keen on going there (I hate Providence =__=).

HERE'S TO A NEW DAY. >8O

(ah, and on the last one I realize that they're missing a bike chain xD; Oops carelessness!)

OLD IS OLD - NEW IS NEW part II

So as I sporadically update with sketch pages I'll let ya'll know what's been going on.
BASICALLY.. Schoolwork <w<; <-- is not a very interesting person.

EXCEPT I'm now doing capoeira (a brazilian martial art) and I have fell in love with it. The movements, the music, the excitement of the roda WAGH xD For the past 3-4 months I have been training 3-4 days a week and I will continue this into nyc in college.
I even graduated to my first cord (green) after like 2 and a half months ;w;
It's really a wonderful thing and I've met so many interesting people that offer a great source of inspiration when I sit down to draw. Healthy body healthy mind - got me outta my funk.

-- You'll have to forgive me xD I've never been very clean when it comes to piecing together sketch pages.

Lindsey - Likewise ;__;

Some very nice work! lots of love!

Some quick crits for only the last piece - the body language doesn't connect both of the characters and doesn't do that with the situation as well.
The poses aren't adequately dynamic for such an event.

litho - Thank you, I noticed that as well. It's actually a pre-sketch to a bigger thing I was working on and I ended up changing those poses completely.

lindsey - YOU FOOL YOU ANSWERED YOUR OWN QUESTION.

It's funny how whenever I sit down to do observation drawings it always comes out with birds. BIRDS.
Irony = I hate birds.

Oh yah and if no one has noticed yet I am an avid hellboy fan xD

Danuh cheers for dropping by my sb! I love your style and it's an awesome sb you got here! Absolutely loved all pages. The only thing, to me, that i could point out is that your outlines sometime detract from the perspective the figure has, but that may be a style thing as well.

Sound like a lot of good things going on all at the same time for you! Not to mention your sketches look fabulous. I'm sure you'll have no trouble picking up animation at SVA. I look forward to your animation studies!

100 portrait challenge - # 1-13

cout-mecha- Good to hear from you again! Thank you
mike- thanks so much :> Your avatar freaks me out to no end xD
comixnut- Thank you for pointing that out! :0 I always have trouble drawing people & perspectives, I don't know why. I'll work harder to improve. :>
camara- Thank you!

I decided to start a little portrait challenge, nothing big. Mostly pen sketches and speed paints of my friends from facebook and all that great stuff.
So let's hope I can actually complete this little project of mine.
Each head takes about 10-15 minutes and the speed paint was 45 min (and yes I realize her left eye is out of place a bit).

Just another set of 6. I'll try to do one set a day so I can finish this ridiculous quest early before I get sick of it.

Amazing sketchbook. Got to say that you have so many styles, or better word would be techniques used, in this sketchbook, even on the same page. Impressive. I especially love the Facebook sketches you're doing. Love the hatching.

It has been awhile since i've visited your sketchbook and i must say you've improved. Love the image with the octopi in the sky, love your animal studies, and your facial studies are really coming alone!
With the human faces: the way you've been using these studies and/or references (either from friends or faces you find) has really helped you to improve.

My only critique is to work a bit more on the fingers, especially when they curl, try to concentrate on how the lines and shadows shape the finger, see where they overlap & keep the roundness.

Hope the critique helps, Keep up the good work
