Help with wacom

Hey everyone im new to the board. I've been browsing for a few weeks now and im absolutely stunned by the incredible work that everyone produces on here. As an artist so far ive only worked with a few mediums, mostly pencil sketching. I want to move into the digital medium and ive been reading a lot about the Wacom tablets so I will be purchasing one next week and i was wondering what you would recommend for size in the Intuos3 line of tablets? Is it beneficial to go with the largest or can you get the same qualities in smaller sizes? I'd love to hear your opinions, thanx guys!

If you can afford the largest, don't buy it.
Buy the a4 instead of the a3.
But a5 is sufficient for many artists.
So it's just a matter of taste, really.
But I do suggest the a4, it's the most common (if people could afford one, it would be).

Thanx for the help Diphallia. Those seem to be the European codes for tablets and i am working out of Canada. What does A5 and A4 transfer to in North American standards?

6x8 is a5 and 9x12 is a4

For most people, 6x8 is fine. Larger tablets can be cumbersome, and aren't necessarily easier to work with. If you have a widescreen monitor, I highly recommend the 6x11. I use a 6x8 at work on my normal-aspect-ratio monitor and a 6x11 at home, and this allows me not to have to make any adjustments for different tablet mapping schemes.
