    Hard Days Work

Here is a piece I did for a recently published book
called Fantasy Art Now. It was fun to do.
It is a bit more stylized than most of the babes and demons stuff
out there, but, hey, that's what I do.

This is based off an idea I had for a cool story about unlikely friends
finding peace in a time of tragedy. Or something like that.

    blah blah blah.. gimme art

Red face Great idea and composition!

I like the expression, it's great, you really think of a hard day's work at the first look at the picture. Only the left arm of the big one arm doesn't look relaxed to me, maybe the elbow should be somewhat lower to achieve that.

Huh, this is a really interesting piece. I am surprised you haven't gotten more reaction. I think your color is really spot on, where it falls a little short is in fore-shortening and structure. His chest looks like it "goes in" towards the bottom of the piece, and the arm holding the sword (on the big guy) could benefit from looking at some photo ref, or getting a muscular friend to pose for you.

Also, the little guy on his shoulder is a *bit* lacking in the same great quality you have captured in the giant's face. I think you really hit the target on the giants' head and face, its just those few areas which could benefit from a little love.

    Great! Keep at it!

    Thanks for the comments.
I feel the same way about some of the crits.
I rushed this a bit to hit the deadline and never looked back.
Normally I would have been a bit more careful but oh well.
It was experimental and I lost the drawing and stucture on a few this, as was pointed out.
I would love to do a few more of these and see what i can come up with as far as a marrige of styles.

    thanks

Hey, by the way: I took a gander at your site, and your work is really stellar, man. Impressive resume too. You have a way with color my friend, that is for certain. Keep it up!

Great colors! yea just have to work on the foreshortening.
One thing though i think that cloud spots on the upper left should at least connect.
Sensational environments on your site man! really inspiring

Regarding the colour, Muttonhead should know - he has a fantastic colour sense. He's right, the colour sells this piece to me. Everyone is right about the giant's head taking the strain of what this piece is all about - a difficult non-standard mood to get across and you do it very well indeed. The shortcomings are to be found elsewhere but they have already been mentioned and you are aware of them anyway.
So here is a big smile from me for a really interesting piece that has a 'certain something' that is found all to rarely. I look forward to seeing more.
