Well dont have much today, mainly because of my drawing class
We use a much bigger paper than I can scan haha

I'm not learning much new about drawing in the class
I AM learning/getting used to some new materials though
I've never used anything but a pencil and pen that I can get ahold of
Now I'm using charcoal and all sorts of stuff

Also I'm using MUCH bigger paper than what I'm used to
I'm not going to lie though, I really dont like large scale drawings
I guess practice helps but, its just too big for me haha

    ===============================================

Ok this is all I have for right now between classes and such

    The guys cape,scarf.... thing haha
Is really exaggerated and crazy I know
I was just drawing whatever came to mind and this came out

Hopefully I'll get to learn some new stuff to try out and share
Instead of just my same old attempts at self learning

Guess its been awhile since I last posted haha

Well I'm slowly picking up some stuff in my drawing class
More so about new materials and such I've never used
Also finally learning a little on value and lighting which I really need

So yeah enough chatter, heres the random doodles I've done in my spare time
I have a bunch of life drawings and such from class but they are too big to scan

    ================================================== =

    And .... GO!

Had to try to do these as fast as possible

Draw this based on my friend... only an older version of him
I draw an opening at the top of his robe, which made it seem like he was looking upwards
But this made me mess up on the bench below him perspective wise haha

The teacher called it drawing with your eraser

So yeah, I need to revisit my anatomy sometime
But I'll do that after my drawing class is over and I have time

    Ciao

Hey thanks for droppin by my sketchbook - thought I'd hunt yours down as well.

I'd say more life studies would be good. Always good, of course. What books are you learning anatomy from?

    Looks good so far. ^_^

    Been awhile...

I've been busy with school so I havent had too much time
    To scan stuff and post

But heres my dump for now

    ==========================================

A study I did waiting for class to start
The stool isnt part of the same "light source"
    I just drew it randomly

(Its easy though, so no worries)

This one I think its the legs and feet that bug me
I STILL have yet to do a study or two for those
I know I need to but I just havent... blah...

Working on at least some form of light source for my drawings
    Here's a simple one
    Name: sc000055a0.jpg
Views: 444

    This one I kinda like
First drawing I've done with charcoal
That actually has a clear subject for once
I've done blobs and stuff but not a person until now

Well anyways I hope someone will READ my post
Before telling me to do life drawings

I do lifedrawings all the time for class, but I cant scan them
    Their way too big

Either way though its ok I guess, people are just trying to help

That Darwin picture looks great. Keep doing life studies, I just started doing mine and I feel like I am learning an immense amount already. Keep at it.

On the one picture with the guy holding the book, the hand itself is fine, it's the angle that the book is turned that looks wrong, the pages are actually facing away from him at a weird angle. Try drawing lines from the eyes to the book to determine which way the book should face, connect those lines to the sharp edges of the book, and that should give you your angle.

Didnt expect to get something else done in the same day as an earlier post but I felt I should do at least something since I havent updated much

This is my attempt at an orange (once again only with a mouse sadly)
I probably should have started with an apple because I dont know much about getting the correct texture for an orange

Well anyways now back to working on my finals

I'll probably be taking my first painting class next semester
So I can apply what I learn there to photoshop too I guess

Hello JFierce ! I see that you're improving a lot since the first page... very cool use of color on "Speed" But you have to work more on the anatomy, the proportions are a little bit messy, so catch a book of human naked anatomy and re-draw every position of the body! Otherwise cool SB keep up man I'll be looking you!

I feel bad now, I've been lazy over summer

I dont have much to post now thats worthy of putting in here
But I am trying to start drawing more females in my drawings
I'm going to need to study alot of anatomy though =P

Oh yeah and I found a stash of old drawings from highschool
....made me realize my school had a really bad art program
I fell into the evils of drawing anime without foundation haha

    Actually I stopped when I found CA.org
Probably saved me from ending up on Deviantart

Not going to have many big updates for a little bit
    Busy with the semester

I found a random free Vector Drawing program
So I figured I'd mess around with it and maybe get a feel for it

Just returning your visit, I see improvment, specially in your rendering, so I'd say do more studies of faces from life, push yourself to the limit. (Bro rape was hilarious, "we were just gonna you know, chill, chillin that all, I swear"
my sketchbook is a work of art.

amazed - Thanks, renderings one of the main aspects I've trying to improve

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just recently found out about how to paint over linework
I had no clue that setting the linework layer to multiply did so much
So yeah I'm going to try to take it step by step
and really try to figure out how to digitally paint color into drawings
Learning this would help in Graphic Design immensely I think

I just did a quick drawing as linework for my first attempt
Right now I've only put in the basic colors I think I want
I haven't gotten to layers of shading or lighting
(These are cropped by the way, I have a bigger canvas I'm working on but I'm just working on this part right now)

    Name: Sketchb.jpg
Views: 238
Size: 98.4 KB

If you have any advice on digi painting, or what I should do next
Please speak up, this is something I think getting some pointers on would help a lot

I would work more on it but I have a big test Thursday
So yeah... gotta study study study

Thanks for dropping by my sb. You asked about advice for digital painting. This is a very good book:

    http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Charac...1508558&sr=1-2

If you're a poor student, maybe you can get it on interlibrary loan or something. You mentioned not using the smudge tool, and among many other things that book has a neat blending trick. You set the tool to the healing brush and set the pattern to a blank white pattern. You then use the brush on the border between two colors and voila, they're blended. It has a lot more than that, though and has lots of tutorials.

All the studies and life drawing you're doing will help quite a bit, but one thing I haven't seen anyone bring up is gesture drawing. Getting the gesture down first will result in more fluid and less stiff figures. Posemaniacs isn't the be all and end all, but it does have a neat feature where you can set it to serve up a new figure every minute. I don't post all of them that I do that way, but it's resulted in better drawings from imagination.
Take a look at my series of in-depth critiques, like this one of Salvador Dali's hidden portrait of Lincoln.

Oh, and see if you can save up while you're a student. Because I took a graphic design class at the community college last year, I was able to get CS 3 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat) for $206. As opposed to about $1700 retail for that whole set. I got it through the college bookstore.
