i hate pc's and mac's for their individual flaws but i like the pc's more simply because of the games factor.

mac hating just seems more funny, cuz they're expensive imho, and i only use them for editing (and that cd thing really pisses me off, and i'm a mac n00b)

pc games...i agree with some of you all...if macs had the software and games that the pc does then I might get one. they look so perty dont they?

a fully loaded g5 with monitor is going to run you about eleven thousand dollars. thats trip to europe money mange!

a semi comparable system...dual 3.0 pc with a 512mb vid card and four gigs of ram can be built for 3200 dollars if you screw it together yourself...throw in a thousand dollar monitor and you can still almost afford TWO MORE loaded pc's for the cost of one mac.

hmm...that means i could get a pc and still go to paris for a couple weeks for the same budget as getting a g5. mmmm..bouguereau...Ill pass on the horsemeat though.

jason, if you count the time you'll lose because of incompatibility of shit, i bet the pc comes just as expensive as the mac does.

that, basically, is what i like about the mac concept: you buy one and it's just the same as the next one in the shelf. it's much more like a console, fixed hardware environments etcetera...
your program doesn't need to run on a gazillion of imaginable hardware combinations but just what is sold.
in fact, with well developed programs, a mac should outrun a pc with identical specs as any game console outruns every pc with comparable specs.

still, there is something about building your own pc. its yours, its exactly what you want and you can buy every shiznit of software you could ever need.

UNINFORMED, or unaware. (please don't be offended, this is the strongest accusation I make in this post)

I have used both, and I just find the Mac to be much easier to work WITH...and no, I don't sneak up on it like this PC lover apparently does...(he was quite an animated chap at least which made it entertaining.)

Anyhow, just a little defense of Apple Computer.

I won't deny that the Mac can have its share of problems, but you know what? If you know what you are doing, 9 times out of 10 it costs much less and takes much less time to fix than its gaming-centric x86 cousins.

Well from my experience with macs, I can say I don't have one happy story about them at all. It is limited experience, editing a few films at school, but it was enough to convince me to buy a PC.

Macs are good for only a couple things. Video and sound apps. But, why spend the extra money if all you are using a computer for is photoshop, and other graphic apps. Buy a pc if you are going to be doing 3d stuff or programming and anything else. I wasted 4 Grand a few years ago on a mac so that I could be compatible with what my school used. Now Im a freelance illustrator and wish I had a pc. There is just more you can do with a PC. I think macs are easy to use, and I've never really had a probelm with mine (except that I bought some crappy ram once and it screwed up my system for a few days) There is more that can go wrong with a PC (opinion). But if you know what you are doing (like the guy says) you can fix or prevent many of these problems.
If something does go wrong with a mac, you are toast.
Im switching to PC.

Not true in my case. I'm not a Mac Hater, and I'm not a PC lover. I've got nearly two decades of computer experience and I've used nearly everything under the sun... extensively. So take this with that in mind:

In an old job I had a PC laptop and a Mac G4 with a big ol' Studio Display. Believe me when I tell you, I wanted that damn Mac to work, because when it did, it was cool as hell (and I only needed it for PS! It was not messed with at ALL). But sadly, everything that guy talks about in that video is true. It was more headache than anything. I even worked closely with a fellow who was a Mac lover and had been all his life and he even said "That's just how they are...".

I'm glad they work well for some people, and I hope you have continued success with them, but... I'll never go near one ever again. The two P4 workstations running Win2K that I built from scratch? Well, they've both got continuous uptime measured in months not minutes.

I've been using Macs for about ten years now, and i'm always amazed at how much PCers love to bash them. I consider myself an illustrator not a I.T. specialist-I rarely if ever have problems with my machines. Maybe over the past ten years I've been lucky.

I now use a G4 powermac and a G4 titanium running OSX and over the past year I've had NO DOWN TIME! I mean zero. It doesn't crash, it doesn't freeze.
Rock solid.

OsX is Unix (or other -x) based. It has a command line. Windows 2000 and up have nothing to do with Dos. There is not a single line of dos in there. The command screen just looks the same (but chances are that you never ever get to see it).

Case is as follows:
1. For both kinds, you need to know how to handle them in order not to mess stuff up.
2. For both kinds, issues with software and hardware exist.

The difference is the following.

1. If a pc breaks down (rarely happens if you handle it properly) you CAN fix it, given the fact that you have enough knowledge of what you're doing. It's like an older car, where everything is still mechanical and you can use string to fix it up if needed. You can also fix a new turbo and cooling system yourself if you want to.
2. If an apple breaks down, you can not get in there. It's all locked down, you always need to call Apple and get ripped off again. If you 'open it up' (software-wise) you break the little selas that say your warranty runs out beyond the yellow line and you're really screwed.

It's just the whole philosophy, PC has the philosophy that everything can be reached, touched (and, if you're not careful, messed up), apple has the philosophy that USERS should not go where EXPERTS are required. Quite a bit of patronizing attitude after you just laid down twice the money required for a comparable pc!

Finally, i disagree with compatibility problems. I never have had any on my pc. Ok, you need to install a driver etc, but who cares, that's just how the thing operates. You need to have spark plugs to drive your car, and the right ones too.

To end this rant, i would like to express my opinion on the fact that it is in any case ridiculous that if i buy a car and it doesn't run, that's an abnormality. People come running to the rescue. If i buy a computer (any kind!) and it doesn't run, the people from the shop either can't fix it or look at you as if you're an utter moron. I'd say this whole computer technology is about at the stage of the T-model ford. If you bought a T-model ford in say 1912, you were expected to be at least a part time mechanic. People that buy a car today are not, they usually don't even know or care how the thing works as long as it runs (and, for some, looks good).

Whatever.

Let's create a new kind of computer.
