Hey Brendan Apologies for not posting here when I said I would. .....
As always, your work leaves me contmplating another way of looking at design or concepts. Work is very graphic and I like the limited use of color, with the brights really reserved. I am looking at how your design leads the eye......which I feel for you is intuitive rather than planned. Perhaps I'm wrong as I know you want to consciously design your pieces, and maybe you do, so if thats the case then your work feels intuitive and not forced. Your stuff doesn't have any sense of overwork.

I'm going to file away some ideas your Carmen card has given me on second look at it's 1st reiteration.

All the work has such different viewpoints from my own.......what I mean, I have been so stuck on the representational all the way thru a picture that I've failed to see so many ways to open up the work/concepts I devise. I am really drawn to the colors and the interposition of a a dimensional figurative element as if it is coming through the field of the graphic plane. As in this one
    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...7&d=1244315958
I really like that "tactic"! Again ideas are catching in the flypaper brain of mine.
    This one
    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...3&d=1248885115
has a lifting sense. Underwater kelp forest, or a very breezy (not windy) gentle pressure up through a canopy. Like the brilliant blue against the dryer greens.
    The fish bowl is great.
Am inspired by your watercolor style of illos.

So, hope to see you appear here soon. However long it takes I know what you bring back here will BE extra cool.

I'm back! I've been adamantly pontificating in the lounge, and thought it's time I kinda contribute something again. However, not the type of things those that follow this thread might wish for - and for that I apologize. I've been doing loads of sketches and paintings and drawings, but whether personal or job-related they are confined to the voids of secrecy and non-disclosure. Instead, I've just come back from a trip - my first vacation since being appointed last year the same time - and naturally I have photos to share.

They're all subject to copious amounts of editing and touch-up, because I can.

No personal endeavours here and it's set to stay like that for a while, unfortunately. Hope you like these in the meantime - it's a crappy little cam and I'm a terrible shot, but maybe if I sprinkle some effects and snazzy shit onto it you won't notice!

gutss: thanks for your comments, especially the "food for yo brain" - I like to think, often erroneously, that I'm somehow adept at cooking up brianfood haha

    pauscorpi: many thanks!

bhanu! thank you brother - fantastic suggestion with the photos; in fact I sort of applied the principle in a very subtle kinda way with the previous post's images. Most of the glowy bits are from other photos. Thanks for the love man, always kickass getting your thoughts.

arsanik: And vice versa - everyone on here presents everyone else with an opportunity to learn.

Aztec! Your figures and drawings and paintings are an example to just about everyone on here. You are, by my estimations, several leagues ahead of me as far as technical skill and practical understanding is concerned. I've said before and I'll say it again - I'd love to see the creative side of your work. I'd love to see the scribbles you make, the thoughts you explore, the uninhibited documentation - not of the figures in front of you, but - of those in your head. I've no doubt that your creative side will be a force to be reckoned with!

Many thanks for your insights. They are always valuable, even if I think you're going too easy on me!

paperX: thanks dude - inspiration is not a word that should be used lightly, humbled that you would ascribe it to the farts the float around in this thread!

fragmentedchimp: and here i was thinking my daughter would never get a suitor - welcome to the family, son!

    spawner187: thanks, appreciate that!

bhanu: Sorry man, I was forcibly married into my job, and I don't see a divorce working out. Not that it stops me from sneaking out like a little - affairs are hard work though haha

BrendanN: you are NOT getting paid to make posts on some fruity art forum.

What a great documentation of your trip. Not just a capture of course, but it is with your unique eye and focus that we see the fury of life! I could feel the rain from that beautiful thunderhead, and smell that poor hyena. You're very brave or got some fantastic long lenses. To think these critters are your everyday, wildlife. Here, I've got to contend with the ferocity of mice and 'possums.

I promise, someday, I'll release the strange inhabitants in my head. I'm a little curious what they'll look like as well. :]

Thanks for posting your pics here, Mr. Noeth and for posting back in my SB. Hope you throw us a few more goodies while in your downtime.

krossj: Hey dude long time no speak - had a peak at your sb and needless to say you're rocking out some crazy drawings!

    towy: thanks!

Ez: I'm neither brave nor in possession of long lenses - I cowered inside the car and barked driving orders to my poor brother. Contrary to popular belief, lions are fairly chilled with the wheeled metal giants we occupy, especially when they have food in front of them. If you don't provoke them and keep quiet, they couldn't be bothered. I'm looking forward to seeing your water colours (don't forget the plug); in the meantime the charcoals are doing it all for me.

Just a tiny update; the first four images were done for an IP of luma's (the company where I'm employed) called "Bun & Bunee." It's taken the format of 1min animated shorts, and is currently being aired here in SA (check it out at www.bunandbunee.com). These were highres beauty images I did. Had great fun. XSI, Modo and a whole load of Photoshop.

Can we see some animation though? From the looks on the site, the shorts look sleek and slick and nice.

Now for something entirely uncute: just another li'l speedpaint, agian not tied to anything specific that I'm doing right now.

Just so you're not confused by the pink 'gas' - the craft is spraying genetically engineered, methane-chewing oxygen-spewing microbials into the atmosphere of an as yet uninhabitable planet as part of a terraforming process.

bhanu: Thanks brother, much appreciated; Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to show any of the animation - it's all part of various things we need to make money off of. Some more official work - did my first matte paint a while back for a Ford ad about a bear on a keychain. You can see the whole ad and behind the scenes here:

    http://www.luma.co.za/blog/2009/11/t...-everest-bear/

Anycase, it was my first one but I thought it came out okay - luckily the supervising director and my boss, Paul Meyer, came back from the set with some fantastic photos which I was able to use. About 3 days, all photoshop...

looking forward to next time though>

maaaaaaan!! I'm so glad to see you posting stuff!! Great photos up there.. The light in those just makes me want to go paint enviros !! The last paintings and the matte is also really nice! I think you should just think a little more of your edges, especially when things are far away etc.. you're 'smoothing' them out a lot when you could achieve a cooler and more realistic look by instead sharpening them! Also the last paintings face would probably work better if it was the same 'wall painting style' as the rest of it.. aka maybe 2 values, or a very fine gradient kinda.. looks good tho'! Keep posting please !

NICE BG work. Atmosphere makes a difference when light is pushed around to create a scene.
That commercial seemed like a great project to do and it's, well dare I say it, CUTE! NOw I want a teddy keychain guardian all my own! That lil critter would be really useful as I couldn't find my own head, most mornings, if it wasn't attached to me shoulders.

Lovely sketchbook you have here - really like the photography and those environments have great texture. Keep up the good work, nice to see such inspiring stuff in different mediums!

Actually Brendan I liked your critiques, unless I go hunting in the Crit forums I rarely seem to get any at all! So thanks And thank you for posting the speedpaint process, I'm not too familiar with doing them so it's helpful to me too.

Dile: thanks dude, cool to see you around!

Ez: Thanks! The Ford thing got a great response and it was cool to be a part of that, even though I only did the matte painting. I'm sure with your knowledge of anatomy you would have no problem dissembling a human being and putting them back together again. If only keys were attached to our hands . Thanks for the stop-in!

    Mariusz: thanks

the ANGRY filipino: no problem - pink works well here because it's not entirely what one would expect from a 'gas' - just screwed up the colour-scheme a bit.

    ThomasM: Thanks very much!

fionkell: mmm, everytime I see your username, I read "fonkel" or "vonkel" - the Afrikaans word for "sparkle." I fear I might start leaving small change in your sb and sound like I'm talking to a stripper named "Sparkles." I will combat this potential embarrassment by forcing myself to read "f" as "l" and "l" as "s", in which case you will become a lion kiss - the receiving end of which I do not want to be on. Thanks for stopping by, will see if I can do the same with today's post.

DanielC: Thanks bro - was in your sb a while back and even though I'm sorry for not leaving a reply, I must say damn you've kept improving since I last saw stuff. Thanks for saying hi, I'll make a decent visit to your sb as soon as I can if only to see some discouragingly excellent drawing skillz.

    ------

Just a small update for now - this is a moodboard/speedpaint I did for another commercial. Only about 2hrs of work, but I'm kinda liking it.

You can see the full ad here; in addition to the speedpaint, I also helped with texturing on the two main characters:

    thanks for looking!
