Mattinian sketchbook 5/23/2013 horseses

Attachment 1261873Hey all, I`ve decided to get off my complacent ass and do something for a change. So starting a sketchbook here was the obvious thing to do.
Haven`t been that happy with my art rescently and i need some sort of motivation to draw more outside of work and god forbid move forward...
`ll be posting some sketches for a week or two, try to complete the best ones. Would appreciate some comments from yous guys :]

*notice i said complete cuz i almost never finish my work... maybe i have ADD. anyway here`s a small dump

Your color palette for each one is really nice. You are using shapes and silhouettes very effectively. My favorite is the third group (group of 5), especially the first and fifth. My only crit would be that some of the camera angles are very extreme, the tilting is a bit disorienting. Good luck with the job.

i think it's a very good concept.
the only thing that doesn't make it look like a vietnam related photo is more because of the helmet.

your background,it looks pretty cold which is the reason it probably looks like a WWII scenario.
try to use a warmer color, like a sunset on the background.
or different tints of green, make it look like there's a jungle background or anything like it.

the rest of your works seems really good.
wish i had those painting skills.

Mattinian those lighting/ composition studies are awesome!
You are absolutely skilled in creating atmospheric enviroments, love all of them.
The last soldier painting is a bit weak, he seems bored.
Also the story is to blury for me, of course he is in war (i noticed the helis), but his personality, tasks and enemies isn´t noticable.

superb sketchbook!

I really like post 16, the use of colour for focal points especially. I also like the complicated camera angles on your first batch too, their confusing but seem very impressionistic. They could also work as abstracts

The last one seems a little static and the Vietnam ones colours seem a little dull or muddy.
