Great stuff guys! I know Stian's work from Star wars. I just love the rich details and simplicity of the designs. Nice work on Conan too...keep it up chaps!

That scorpion archer is just sick!!
I love it
Your armor designs have a very ancient, almost mesoamerican feel to them in alot of ways. It's nice to have that in a fantasy RPG setting as it lends an almost darker(?) feel to the mood of the game when compared to the typical high middle ages armor that's so prevalent in fantasy (or lack of armor...).
Thanks Joshua, because a Mesoamerican 'influence' is something we really strived for and hoped to convey.
Glad to see someone noticedI think it'll become more apparent in the game, especially when it comes to architecture and ornamentation, without obviously referencing step pyramids.
While Howard's Hyboria represents a diverse range of cultures from different timeframes, we wanted there to be an element of something more primitive, or at least the antecedents of all these civilisations to be something more primitive and to have influenced through the ages in oder to give a greater sense of depth, history and continuity. Also, since Hyboria is set 10000 years ago we felt that even if a culture such as the Aquilonians reflected a blend of Roman and early medieval french court that nevertheless there'd be a almost 'Cyclopean' or preliterate solidity to structures, weapons, ormanents etc. Players will encounter Atlantean, Acheronian and Lemurian ruins and will perhaps be able to see their influences in the civilisations present in the game.

Thought I'd butt in too and show you a tiny bit of what I've been doing for Age of Conan. Since Grant and Alex have shown you some of the armours and environments, here are some prop concepts I've done for this project.
On some concepts I save a separate file with clean greyscale renders of the items to make the modellers job easier - especially when the finished model is supposed to be covered in grit and growth as in some of the following examples.
The final file is meant to illustrate how it is sometimes more suitable for the concepter to create the actual asset / maps one self. Instead of designing the engravings to go on a series of tablets, it provides me much more control to sculpt a 2d surface in Zbrush instead.
And until there is a plug-in in Photoshop that mirrors strokes, Zbrush is great for symmetrical design work, too.
We like to distribute tasks around here, so I've got a fair deal of armours and such too. In the meantime, criticism and fresh views are welcome. I've personally only been doing concepts for one and a half years, so I'm still learning like a lot of people here at CA. If you have any questions on the images or the job in general, fire away!
Really cool stuff, I'm lovin all the masai looking warriors a post back. Threads like this remind me why I want to work in concept art when I'm older.
Really cool concepts bro! I think the anatomy still needs some work, other than that, nice colors and fresh ideas! Keep on pushing yourself! We are all still learning!
Ooo, Conan stuff. The books are a rollicking great read, and the game's shaping up nicely by the look of things. Best of luck with it.

Nice. My favorites are dahlslett's tribesmen and rhino, and Nordstrand's cone-headed statue, and spider statue. This seems like a really fun project to work on. I love ancient and earthy things, old traditional garb, primitive art styles, etc. Look forward to the games release.

Nordstrand, those stone structures and masks look great! i am wondering.. aside from the obvious Egyptian and Meso-American influences, what other cultures/tribes did you research for these concepts?
