Thanks dadushin. Always good to hear comments from you.
Your line work is still well-rendered. Just keep your imagination and polishing the work out! I hope will see more to be done, especially colour painting!
Cheers

hey man! fellow risd slave
hope your enjoying the break for the next, what, two days before wintersession?
well, since you asked for my farty old senior advice, i thought i'd toss some things out, since there is still time for you to get what i failed at doing!:
but first off, just know the last sophomore i talked to about my true risd sentiments i convinced to leave! do you know emmie?
in the short, definitely take any and all opportunities to experiment until you feel comfortable and understand what you're trying to get out of your art. you really have to fight hard to get the good classes and informative teachers (i didnt get anything i wanted until second semester junior year! ) but now i realize instead of doing all the tawdry work for teachers that didnt really care : cough : bill hall ), i should have just said 'fark it!' and focused on my own development that i wanted to see. in the end they should grade you on your personal effort, which so far is really impressive. and if they dont grade you well, dont worry, its not stamped on your portfolioand deifnetely try to get fritz for any and all classes, friggin genius!
actually, we should just meet up this coming semester and i can throw a few suggestions around if ya want man! i live in the bowels of provwash in my studio. send me a line ur facebook or something i guess? btw what are you taking for wintersession?
sick paintings btw

hey man, I didnt forget that crit that i mentioned...just a little late sorry (your drawings are rocking by the way)
In your paintings I can suggest using the background more to your advantage. The few that I have seen have a greyish bg. Try to use more color in it. The best paintings have a tint to the bg's that is echoed throughout the paintings. Try and mess with more reds in your skin tones. I see a lot of browns and yellows but some reds might offer some variety as will subtle blues and greens. Also try and feather some of your edges more and soften them. You can be loose and soft in certain areas and get more hard in areas with actual hard edges like eyelashes and such. Cuz if you think about it the side of the face is a turning soft sphere so it won't really have a hard edge...
Hope this helps.
happy holidays

hey all!
i'm back at school, where the scanner is, which means i can start updating again!
i have a lot of crap so i'll start with the ones i was able to scan, just a few and are from the beginning of vacation
these are pretty old now (3 weeks?) and looking at them i can see a lot of messed up things, some nice things but mostly really messed up suckiness things
all no ref, did these after watching gladiator though
I WILL REPLY SOON!
Last edited by dadushin; January 13th, 2008 at 01:28 AM.
the gladiator movie inspires you and you inspire me
nice shading as always !
and I've to say again,,, but your pencils are great!
cheers!
Dadushin, thanks for stopping by my SB. You have an interesting bunch of stuff in here yourself. You have some interesting and nice linework and interesting. I haven't read everyone else's comments, but anatomy studies will make your sketches much strong. I'd like to see more paints and what you can do with them.
Whatever you do, don't look at my Sketchbook and Painting Thread!

hey dude thanks for commenting in my sketchbook, sweet paintings and sketches you got here! i would suggest perhaps doing some more "action" poses when working with out ref as some of your sketches look a tad stiff atm...but thats one of my main issues too hehekeep up the great work!
finally update
i'll reply with the last batch of comments
posting in chronological order, older to newer
all no ref, except the quick anatomy study
scans are little whacky
for the teen challenge, guess it turned out ok

Wooah, haven't come to realize you're so young until you said that those are for teen challenge! They are all awesome, I personally prefer the first one, nice character as a whole. Just thinking maybe you can add some motion to your work such as distort the perspective or extreme pose?
Nice job!
Wow, I love your sketches
Very good picture
WOUU, cool update! your characters are really nice!
your lines and shading are amazing!
and I wanted to ask you something (with my limitated technical english)
what kind of pencils do you use,,, or what range of pencils do you use? (3b,2b,b,hb,h...??? ) to obtain, for example, the apocalypsis warlord?
Nice rendering man! Great costumes too. Try doing some more dynamic poses and stuff like that. Lookin forward to the next update.
great work :] love your character drawings.
One thing I'd say is they all look slightly stiff. I don't know if you are doing it or not, but I think you'd benefit alot from some life drawing. Get a bit more looseness and gesture going with your figures and they'll feel better.
Also don't forget anatomy!

RABIDTOOTH- thanks
Clodioz- thanks man! keep practicing and let the world inspire you 2ndcomment:yea man i fuckin love that movie haha, great to hear i inspire someone, thanks man! 3rdcomment: pencils...i use .5 and .7 mechanical pencils, a 2b pencil, and a kneaded eraser. right now i havn't really used the .7, but it depends on what i'm rendering and i guess what i feel like at the moment..sometimes i draw with only 2b when other times just the .5...sometimes do the line with .5 and then render with 2b...but yup those are the pencils i use............for the warlord i started with .5 for the line and then used both .5 and 2b for rendering, just switching off, don't remember that well
UnSharpened- thanks, your work is improving! 2ndcomment: hey man thanks again, yea in the coming month i plan to do more painting stay tuned! 3rdcomment: thanks for stopping by again! haha, yea i'm trying to get into skewing the perspective and doing more action poses now, we'll see how it goes

Fvallejo- thanks for the words!! definitely helps, i'm going to be painting a bunch, i'll keep this stuff in mind for sure, i think i was scared in adding in colors into the skin tones because i thought everything would be thrown off or it would stand out to much, but i now realize that just made them kinda bland..thanks for dropping by!
hylandr2- yup i'm really lazy when it comes to getting down and doing the studies...got to get off my ass, thanks for the comment!

you are good at pencil sketchs~ er, i 'm not sure what the bright skin in that man's face? yeah, the bright spot besides his mouse. that confused me ...
keep it up. do some digital works, i think you will do much better than only black and white~

hey ! Maybe I dont have your imagination and I will never develope it,,, but I have to tell you that I've been practicing shading as you,,, but I cant hehehehdoesnt matter...
and ehmmmm,,, I have noticed that you tend to hide your faces,,, even when they're pretty good!,,, dunno why,,, perhaps a few characters without helmet wouldnt be so bad
sooo that's all for now.. I go to bed,,, it's late here
good night!
hey dude, great updates....i think Clodioz is on to something here about the helmet comment, also i suggest watch out for the pose of the hands, it can start to get repetitive from time to time as you choose to draw the pose that you are more comfortable with (i know because i do this a lot....keep up the hard work man!
Thanks! I know about the contrast, the thing is when I try to get darker on shades or just to make a better sensation of volume I loose colours. I still don't know / understand contrast and opacity of colours and the painting loses when I try to get deeper on that.
Very cool desings, I don't know why but I don't remember having seen that sb!
Thank you very much (anyone telling anything from long ago :p)
Clodioz-yea good point, i think i have a couple faces in this update, not really though, should practice those
PaperX- good point again, practice required once again!
Zarquino- thanks for stopping by
another late update, havn't been drawing much..starting to show
no ref. sry for bad scans
for teen challenge

thanks for the visit to my sb. :]
Your sketches look so clean. Your characters look really cool. You have a great imagination. : D They all seem like they're standing around, I'd love to see your characters in action, a few more dynamic poses.![]()
Nice rendering and designs. Material texturing is looking sweet. Don't forget to work on proportion, some of your shins are a bit short, and a lot of them have very small feet.
You're an artist, not a meat camera. -Elwell
Great sktches man, your progress is apparent. You've developed your lines, rendering and design. Very cool.I've got few advice atm I guess, however a tip would be to explore light some more perhaps. You seem to have created a pattern were you introduce light from above in almost every sketch.
looking forward to more!
