Powerful fighter

sorry for the crappy title, I had no inspiration watsoever for it. :p

Okay here I lunch myself in a new painting. hope this one won't take a month like the last one.
you'll see that this one will look a lot like my last one, http://jordanroots.gfxartist.com/artworks/153863 but I just can't help it.

I started with a reference of myself:


and traced the lineart:


and now here's a rough start for the color.


I want this painting to look a bit like Prince of persia's style, of course I don't want it too look the same, so please if it's getting too much alike, please do tell me.
I had no reference for the arm, and I'm fully aware that it looks off. I don't only welcome paintovers but Request them :p I know the blade's perspective is off too and I can't fix it sans reference. I couldn't find any...

about the concept, it's a kind of warrior that has magical powers. This is rather more of a character design than anything else, therefore, there is no strong concept to the painting.

Please state your opinion, and if you want to help I'll be more than pleased

definatly going in the right direction there.

if i were you i would rethink the torso. try limiting yourself with a boarder (cropping the top 1/3), and think about how to best use the space within that area, then draw the pose accordingly.

also when thinking about composition, focal points are important, at the moment his face and the fireball are the focal points, and crammed down at the bottem right. this doesent give the viewer much incentive to explore the rest of the picture.

use contrast to lead the viewers eyes around the picture, either with directional lines, or increasingly eye catching focal points, or both.

you should try to 'balance' the picture

when i say 'balanced' i mean it shouldn't be weighted to any side of the canvas. left or right, top or bottom (2 on one side, and 1 on the other works, but 3vs1 starts to look odd, unless the 1 is bigger than each of the 3's).

on the other hand you can dilliberatly unbalance the composition in order to create 'feeling' effects, like someone bout to fall from a cliff, or a plane pulling g's.

but yeah i would make his body take up more space, it will make the anatomy easier too.

Love the lighting on the face!

However, your proportions are off. The body is much too small for the head. I would find some references and make the canvas longer so you're not trying to cram a certain amount of the figure on a canvas that's too small.

First off, nice shading on the face, the problem with this pic is that you didn't use refference. Heck stand in front of the mirror or something, it helps.
The biggest problem here is that the head is too big for the body and the arm is in a kinda sloppy position, theres no OPH in the pose xD
One question, what is the glowing thing?, I'm just asuming it's a glowing thing.

and the knife looks like a huge huntingknife. try redesigning it a little.

@ karma militia: you are right, I should rework the composition to balance it more, and I will do it. I thank you very much for your in depth comment, very useful!

@ llanir: yes, the proportions are off, that's why I only worked on the face and not on the body yet, coz I new I would have to find some references. I always have a tendency to make my bodies too small for their head, ALWAYS. lol that makes them look like anime thanks for your comment !

@ hugeanticpeanut: thank you VERY much for the paintover, I will rework the lineart accordingly. What is OPH btw ? That glowing thing is the light that will emanate from his other hand that I haven't drawn yet. it will be much smaller now it's way too big. thank you very much for your advices!

bloody nice improvement, you use a refference?`
try checking the lightsource to the face, think a glowing hand would land better shadows.
you could have His left leg, the one not showing, come out too the left. as if he were turning towards the viewer lite "What did you say punk!" lol xD

hugeanticpeanut, yes this time I used a reference of a body builder. the glowing think won't be in his hand, it will stay a necklace, but I moved it so it would give a better lighting to the face. I'll draw the chain later. about his leg, I tried it but did not succeed. could you show me what you mean exactly?

Wow the chain on the necklace looks sweet! You're making great progress. Keep it up.

Great rendering on the face, especially the eyes. That's a good use of complementary contrast. Looks real good.
It seems like the forearm is too long and the muscle on the inside of the forearm is too long and rounded. It should be more like a small,rounded triangle. I'm sorry, It's a little hard for me to explain, so I made a paintover. Hope that helps.
