The Complete Beginner Strikes Again! (art dump)

Although I've known for a while that art was the career I wanted to head towards, I've unfortunately been distracted by other possible career paths (film directing, acting, fencing, opera, and classical piano to name a few. ). Fortunately life has a funny way of narrowing down one's interests. So lo and behold, I'm back to art! However I've never really had any formal instruction (one or two sad excuses for art classes where I spent more time as the art model than actually drawing....).

All critiques are welcome, and the more the better. I've reached a plateau in my self-instruction and would love to get more advanced. Most everything here is copied from figure studies or photography (I feel I need to learn proper proportion, lighting, and scale before I try doing original pieces). Here goes!

    Did you say beginner?
    Excuse my language
but you are not an EFFING beginner.
    DAMN this is good.
I say art is your career hah
but the only problem I see is with your colored one.
    well not really a problem
but the shading and lighting just seems to bug me
besides that you are good to go.
    I LOVE YOU

Why thank you, I appreciate the compliment.

Oh I know, it bugs me too. That is the first coloured pencil study/sketch I've ever done. I made the mistake of using a cream coloured pencil as a base for the skin and it threw the colours off. I'm trying to hammer out some more details with colour, but I'm very much used to doing line art or BW pieces so colour is a totally new arena for me.

    Also
Many of these drawings have similar faces
    If I may suggest
going to a cafe and just drawing random people?

think about symmetry and placement and form while you draw. From what i see you are just copying flat images and not thinking about these things. The loomis studies show this most clearly. Everything is 3d and it has relative placement in relation to the other parts of it. I would recommend life drawing sessions or still lifes to study these aspects of things.

Oblivion - Yeah, I terribly when it comes to 3D. (Though the last picture of the girl lying on the couch was a life drawing of a girl sleeping on a sofa at school)

I recently tried to get into a life drawing class, but the school refused since I wasn't an art major or minor.

life drawing class would be ideal but you can just sit down somewhere and sketch ppl
in the begining those pics will look awful but you have to learn how the capture forms and nail propotions
use loose and long lines a pic doesn't need to take more then 30 secs
if you get bored of that just start drawing details of ppl who don't move a lot and the overall form in mind (don't lose yourself in details just yet)
