Lyno, your sketch book is so inspirational you have no idea.May I ask a few questions regard to your practice? How do you practice as exercises? Do you have specific set of things that you draw that helps you to perceive better? Should I do "photograph copies" or more location based drawings?
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much Selphiroth!
I believe that you always should tackle your weaknesses. For example, if you don't know how to draw trees, do photo studies or go out to draw them in your sketchbook/laptop/ipad/iphone/.... Draw it until you feel you have mastered it and tackle your next weak spot. Also there is nothing wrong with using references. You can't expect to know how to draw trees out of your mind when you never drew them before. All the great artist who draw beautiful things out of their minds and make it look so easy have a great visual library. A visual library by drawing a lot from references and life.
That's why drawing from life is good. Especially for your colors and values. Using photos is good when you don't have the opportunity to go outside, but a photograph won't have the same colors and values in comparison with your real life object. A photograph is a snapshot, some values won't show up or are washed out. Same for the lights, in real life you can see how light and shadow behaves, why there's a specific color shift,...
Again, there is nothing wrong with photo studies but drawing from real life is still better. It both has their positive and negative sides. Just remember, whatever you draw, drawing is always good.
I hope this helps a bit? For example interiors and architecture are my weakest spots, so I should study them and draw them. And look, I did one, but I should do thousands more. I only managed to do one, and I got back at drawing mountains...
but I love it so much

Sweet environments man, lookin so good!!!!!
I agree with you about the photo study v life study. Another point to that is that when you do a study from life, you pick the composition based on what you see. You pick everything that you want to go into your image, where as in a photo its already all been done for you and your just copying itThen again you can put your own twist on a photo, but its better when you do that with a live subject.

A simple question, were the last 2 pictures you submitted done using lasso/rectangular marquee or whatever it was? I find that it takes a really long time when I use those, so I'm curious to know. Thanks.![]()
Hi madelly, yes those were done using the lasso and marquee tools. Here are some more.
