Thanks for the tips guys, I'll make sure to vary and watch out

nice updates Lyno! The face in your latest paint is lovely but perhaps a bit too symmetrical? Unless you prefer it that way of course
youre getting really ace lyno! watch your edges though, some need more defining![]()
Thanks Lav, yep you're right I guess, her face is not that natural.
Hey Parsakoira, thanks! I'm doing these studies with a soft edged brush so sometimes I forget about me edges, like this one right now

Im subscribing.. !curious at the progress u will make!
Keep it up buddy!
hey man! some great work in here. Your rendering is getting really good. I just wanted to say something i have noticed. It seems your weakness is heads and faces, in the movie studies there seems to be a lot of wonky anatomy and not so much emphasis on form rather just superficial mark making. This is a downside to screen cap studies, because the tendency can be to just copy the shape of the values rather then think about turning form and planes. You are a great painter and drawer just some more focus on the planes of the face and i can see your work becoming amazing!
Also your sketchbook is massive so i haven't looked at every page so if you have done plane studies thats great! But do more and more it can't hurt at all.
the screencap studies look real nicenothing to crit this time really, just stopping by and letting you know that youre doing real good! keep up!
nice work on those photo stills from films. They are looking really good. I would suggest a couple of things, although you are a much keener painter than I am so they are just things to bare in mind:
1/ in the three-step post on the last page the final actually holds the viewer's attention less than the middle stage. Towards the end you added so much texture that it confuses the eye a little. In the previous step you have a very smooth sea and that helps contrast with the texture of the hills to draw the eye in - basically just try to remember not to apply too much texture because it can take away some of the strength of shapes.
2/ when you are painting try not to use a soft brush all the time, but instead paint with a harder edged brush and then soften the edges which are intentionally soft. I find a Hard round brush set to Opacity means it is not to harsh but you can still vary edges. So much of painting is about considering edges that it would be a great place to do a little research into - as you seem to have nailed some of the other aspects.
Hope that helps a little!
