    Hey Yngling
The graphic feel you have going for you in your recent posts is really appealing. Definitely CD covers or t-shirt designs. The composition and play of contrasts in the monk piece works quite well also. Looking forward to more!

Thank you Jasper_ and Bubblesaw! And Jushra too, I've been trying to simplify my work lately, to make them more readable and cohesive designs. Full renders don't always do the job. I'm glad that it works.

Here's two sketches that went through the colouring machine. I'm aching to make a comic of sorts, but I guess that'll have to wait till the summer, because I've got so much going on right now. So little time!

A sketch from today. I've tried some digital comic-ish inking style. It's rough around the edges but I'm kind of happy with it as an experiment. It was actually one of the first times that I felt comfortable sketching lines digitally.

After the page-o-faces now comes...the page-o-characters! Ok not quite as catchy, but you get the point. It's basically a doodle page with utterly random characters grouped together. I love how they come together to form little unexpected stories. I experimented a bit with colour, not very refined atm. I have some more lying around, they'll be up tomorrow!

I'm having a great time doing these. While they may not be refined, correct or thoughtful, they provide a free and associative way of drawing. I make them up as I go. Same for this one. I figured I'd done enough characters for now and tackled an environment. I started without any grids or guidelines, completely freehand. Who needs proper perspective?

Lakka: I've never thought I had a really developed signature style, but now I guess I'm onto something. Thanks for the comment.

Another one of these. I enjoyed it so much I coloured it instead of doing homework...it's like a paradox, feeling a little guilty because I have been drawing instead of...well, drawing something else.

Got to work on perspective and proportions. Some things in these are completely out of whack. Somehow it doesn't bother me much when looking at the whole picture though...maybe the overall effect is more important?

whats up yngwie? i recognize an almost reckless attitude you didnt show this much before. talking about the big picture instead of perfect proportions and that kind of stuff . you're really loosening up, and adding even more speed and life to your drawings. guess the teachers will like that as well, and i think it really adds something to your skills. I like that last one a lot, and im still very jelaous of your drawing from imagination! see you monday!

Glad to hear that AJ, perhaps it is because there's no pressure behind these...it is a spontaneous process. It is somehow very hard to keep that feeling when working on assignments.

Something silly for now. A pencil sketch like I rarely do them anymore.

Two things for a school illustration project. I'm going to be featured in a publication about foreign fairy tales and stories, which is really nice. Next tuesday = finals assessment day for this school year. I should have some photographs after that

While waiting at the train station, I couldn't resist sketching. A pity the train drove off halfway through, so I had to use my imagination for a bit. I want to fill a whole sketchbook with stuff like this during the summer...

Phizpietl: Thank you! Colour is fun.

    AJ: Let's do it!

"Ok, 12 days no update and then THIS? You must be kidding!"

Sadly, I am not. It's been busy on my end, and I've gotten some new musical toys to play with...plus Assassins Creed II... On the positive side, my super-secret card game project is almost at an end, so I will have heaps to show when it's done!

I'm having fun with them, in2eternity. I'm afraid I simply cannot be fixated on one thing.

A bit of a retrospective here. These are pieces from a school project. I had to imagine an alter ego and show scenes from his daily life. There's no real chronology in this, they're more like snapshots. I settled for a homeless young man from China, who lost his family and home in an earthquake and now lives in a van, repairing electronics (his family ran an electronics store). He dreams of stardom, and saves money to participate in the Beijing MIDI music festival. I hadn't the time to elaborate much on the actual character, but I love the technique and think the overall impression is close to what I had in mind. I worked with photographs for this, something I rarely do but should more often. The debris scenes are some of my favourites, bordering on the abstract.

Oh, it's black acrylic on A3 paper by the way.

Last night I sat down and painted this quick still life in acrylics. It's messy, and victim to some...unfortunate decisions, but I like it.

Sooo, I've been taking things slowly...started up a new project for myself. I intend to do some exploration into sequentials and storytelling. In other words, I'll try my hand at some comics.
To start off, I'm doing my research. Since I plan to have at least one story set within medieval times, that's what I've concentrated on. I went to visit a castle nearby to get some inspiration, and I made a sketch of it. I did another one at larger scale, but somehow my pencil technique lends itself better to smaller pieces...
Anyway, here's some of the more pictorial pages of my sketchbook, where I note down my ideas. They're mostly character sketches, who might find their way into the cast somehow. Some dodgy poses and constructions here and there but it's the idea that counts.

To end this post, some black-and-white sketches from the same sketchbook. I tried a technique that I used digitally, this time with acrylics. It works lovely!

The studies are looking sweet man, workin that black acrylic!
Im excited to see what you come up with for this comic! Theres a nice range of characters there. What kind of story where you thinking? Hero vs villian type thing?
I really wanted to start a comic or something after writing a script this year, best advice I can give you is find someone to be critical with you that really knows good story. If you can
Oh and what did you mean your pencil technique is better for smaller pieces? Like you dont really have a long stroke? I think Ive gotten more into bigger strokes since I started life drawing haha.
PS. Sorry about the world cup. But hey! Ireland didnt even make it in HAHA
PPS. Digital technique using acrylics? Im intrigued!
