This is an excellent compilation of compositions you have here. I mean, I am quite outstanded by your use of lines to emphasize volume and value. You really are going places, man.
Thanks for the heart-warming replies! I'm a bit down lately and they help a lot.
Yep, I'm not so happy right now. Last week I failed my driving exam due to nervousness, and now I feel like I wasted a whole week playing stupid games, browsing this stupid site and sleeping. It's called vacation, and I used to love it, but no more. It's a black hole. Most of my friends are away on holiday and I have nothing more to do. Except drawing, but this situation is leaving me paralyzed and uninspired to say the least. I need to get out. Do something interesting. But then there's always the lousy summerjob that also needs to be done. Maybe I'll go visit a museum or something, boost my inspiration, but heck, two weeks ago I was in Rome having a great time and bursting with inspiration. Where did it go???
So ehh while I sort out my life, here's someting for you to see. Some things I did manage to do these days. Bleh.

Working some on the digi. I am unsure of the what and why of this, but it's fun work.

yoyo!
i can really find myself in your description of the black hole called vacation.. its plain boringi really waste my time on anything but not on making nice stuff... i guess we need to have some kind of goal
![]()
if you feel like going to a museum some time and just draw some stuff in some city, let me know could be nice to have someone to go with
btw, its not like the stuff you make is as bad as you think. it might feel like its not a lot, but what you make still has a lot of qualitys and you're still experimenting with stuff, so thats good!

Thanks all, you bring a smile to my face! And AJ, that's a great idea, only hopefully I'll find the time with my summerjob.
Ok, I guess I felt like such a whiny loser since I last posted that I refound a lot of inspiration. Some of it you'll have to wait for to see, but here's a few things from the last days. I'm kind of unsure about the sp, sometimes I think it's good but sometimes something seems terribly off? Don't know for sure. Scribbles are from a music festival a few evenings ago, watched a friend perform and couldn't resist sketching around.

great stuff mang!
Merci, monsieur Conte!
Something silly I did the last couple of days. Took more time than I imagined, but 'twas fun nonetheless.

Some rather boring/repetitive/formulaic sketches. Especially on faces and anatomy I need loads more reference, I feel like I am drawing the same structure over and over. Still trying to grasp value, something I have mistakenly overlooked in the past.

Self portrait! Hair is a bit flat, but overall a satisfying result. Be it a little 'photoshop'-ish. I dislike the absolutely textureless strokes, and a texture overlay doesn't cut it for me. Time for a switch to Painter/Artrage or something...or just analog. Nothing beats analog for expressive strokes.

Extremly nice Sketchbook. Your doing GREAT!
Thank you RavenINK
Another selfportrait. A little stiff perhaps.

looks like you found back the fun in drawing again?the selfportraits are extremely like you, great job! you say a bit stiff...hmm... not really stiff i think, but not really funky either
anyway, great studies. love the drawings from the band too.
if you feel like going to some kind of museum and sketching, im available all next week monday-friday, so if you have time we could arrange something! do you know any exhibition worth visiting?
My sketchbook: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...106521&page=11
Great selfportraits! And such a pretty model as well, hehe. I was laughing my ass off, when I saw the mini-tanks. First I was just like "Well, what's that supposed to be?" but as I scrolled down, it showed. Really cool idea! Also liking your drawings, keep it up![]()
AJ: Great idea, only thing is, I have a job every afternoon, not really hard but it has to be done. But I'll see what I can arrange. I'll send you a mail when I know more!
AvisNocturna: Wow thanks! I don't know what to say
I really want to participate in the Newborn contest, but I have to get to work if I want to finish in time. I will be on vacation form the 20th of july, so that's my deadline. 2 weeks? I'll make it!
Here's the first few sketches and designs for the piece. I have a clear idea now of what I want to do, now I'll have to flesh it out.

duuuuuuuude! the tanks are like, the coolest thing ever! i was like, "whoa!" very nice.
for painting stuff, you might want to check out paint tool sai or artrage, as they're cheaper and lighter on your computer. i really used to like painter, but it takes up a lot of memory and computer power to use it, and i'm too broke to get it anyway, but probably wouldn't now.
your last self-portrait, there's not enough saturation variety. most of the picture is kinda average saturation, with some really nice bright orange on your beard. i think if you put that in some of the hair, on the side in the light, maybe close to where your hairline is, it'll help bring out another part in the picture. really good job, just vary the saturation a little more.
great stuff man, i'll be sure to check back soon. take care!![]()

Hala: Woot!
Purb36: You're right about the low sat, colour remains difficult. I should also try different brushes. I'm liking Artrage so far, haven't really done anything worthy with it yet, but promising start.
Quick update: a very small clay bust I've been working on. Not done yet, especially the left hand. He will have a counterpart as well. Also, more music sketches!

like your newborn idea!

AJ: All from the head. These were only for fun.
Another selfportrait, this time with ArtRage. Really fun program! Just the basics you need for painting, one layer, no nonsense. Great learning experience!

I did a quick colour draft for the newborn piece. Just a sketch with colour overlay, to get an idea of the composition/feel. I think it needs more colour, and the composition doesn't work as well as I'd like. Ah well, plenty of room to mess around with cloud shapes and other abstract forms, so that won't be much of a problem.

great updates! I especially like the colour choices in the self potraits.
i love that last self portrait, im jelaous, i wanna make one like that, but i fail time after timegood color choice, nice brushes...

AJ: I think it's a lot harder with traditional means. There's no undo button in real life!
Slothboy3000: Glad you like it!
Pulled out the markers again last evening. The designs are a bit unoriginal and unpractical. The ship was actually a direct marker sketch, no pencil beforehand.

Did a few quick sketches in a park outside my town. They're small studies for a painting. It's a gift for my grandfather, but also good environment practice. And deadline practice too: it has to be done by tomorrow evening. It was very nice sketching outdoors, and there's plenty of places nearby that I can go. Beats wasting away behind a screen by miles! When I get a good portable easel I can go paint as well. So many things to do!

Here's a WIP of my oil painting so far. Hardly a spectacular subject but I'm enjoying it. The mass of leaves is far from finished, that'll be next.
edit: added a further WIP shot.
