Just got my sketchbook going: Sketchbook

3 pieces of mine that I like

This was tough. So many images to choose from, but here goes...

1. A piece by Alphonse Mucha (not sure on the name of the piece). The first time I saw this I was blown away. I was (and still am, for the most part) pretty ignorant to fine art and classic art in general, so when I saw this I immediately thought that it was made more recently than it actually was. I never really knew of older art with clean defined lines like that. It looked like a comic book cover, but had a special feeling to it I hadn't seen before.

2. The Filter and the Sea by Alex Fuentes (Los Fokos). This image grabbed me in an ancient spiritual sort of way with a sci-fi twist. Very Mobius like with the shapes and the compostion keeps your eye moving up and down between two triangles with the face and hands as the center points. The colors seem to help move the eye along perfectly too. Feels really thought out.

3. Iraq Refugees by Tomer Hanuka. A moving image with a serious subject, filled with beauty and disgust. I love the super clean flowing lines (all his work has that quality) and the limited color pallete. The sickly shades of green seals the deal with the message it's trying to convey (the message I got anyway).

90 minutes goes by quick, couldn't finish. The chin should have been wider (among other things), throws off the likeness a lot. He looks more like a cracked out Geraldo Rivera.

another thing i realized just now that i didn't mention in the crit is how much this sloth piece makes me think of a crop or detail.. something about either the thickness of th lines or something makes it feel like it's the crop of a much larger more detailed piece. i notice u have a tendency for thick linework in some of your other pieces... think about scaling it back so you can show off some finer linework.
