grief: thanks for the encouragement. i haven't looked back at the old pages for a while...it was actually a pretty big relief to see that i haven't remained static for all this time.

dadu: thanks! i'm still trying out different methods, great to hear some feedback about it

By the way, have you heard the news about Sketcher? Apparently it has returned once again. For how long is anyone's guess though.

here are lampshade pirates. any crits on how the lighting is working out would be awesome; i suck at light/values/tones. perhaps a top/front lighting effect?

    what'sssgoin'onHOMESLICE

You already know I love you so I'll get right to it

you should totally implement some more graphic elements to fit your art, I think it'd look great.

I would do a drawover of your lines to show you what I mean but some douche stole my tablet so I can't really do that

but first off one thing you could do is include some more developed lines, you've done really well with the whole drawing with minimal lines so now you've gotta get it to the next stage! Basically what I'm saying is: lines on the shadow side darker and thicker, lines on the light sides thinner, and around highlights even go to the point of getting rid of lines completely

two, try some design elements to compliment your figures. Look at graphic designs for inspirations or nature always works well, like drawing rocks n' shit, ya know... cause rocks are dope as fuck. Personally I've been trying to discover for myself what looks awesome in terms of abstract shapes, and I must say, it's been a pain in the ass and I feel like I've only traveled like a mile of the entire journey but I've developed somethings that I'm starting to see work consistently. I've noticed that totally abstract shapes rendered with very realistic form creates this crazy cool looking effect (I really wish I could show you what I mean exactly, but then again I think it'd be cool to see what you come up with just the description alone )

    and uhhh fiftheth
i noticed you have some comments about composition, for your self portrait(s) i'd recommend not even worrying about composition yet, just try to get it to really look like you the best you can as that's the hardest part of doing it(*EDIT* that's what she said). I've been doing self portraits every day since october of last year so I can say I've done a few myself. I can also say I still have a hard fucking time(that's what she said) getting it to just look like me. So really try to nail the technical aspects before moving onto anything fancy(that's also what she said)

but if you do want advice on composition, on your self portrait; the background and yo face both have similar kind of... you know... blobs. what I'm saying is separate how you create the background with how you make yo face, they're too similar. The background pulls just as much attention as yo face. Making a smooth or flat background are the most popular ways, but there are no rules so if you can discover something that works aesthetically go fer it.

OKAY SO that's probably enough for you to munch on for a little bit

whoo it's been a while. i've been trying to...get out of my rut, and actually learn some shit for once. trying to learn how to paint through daily self portraits, and practicing to the same line sensitivity i've got on paper, digitally.

i'd love some crits, as harsh as necessary, especially on the self portrait. what details am i getting wrong? what general techniques am i executing improperly, or simply missing? am i not paying attention to values the way i should be? do the colors work? anything, really.

thanks for the kind words surus, here are some pencils for you

a bunch of sketches from imagination from the last two days. the last one is a base for the rosie-the-necro chow going on this week. they're in a non-moleskine, so i'm not really used to the paper texture yet. they were also scanned on the crappy scanner i've got at home, unfortunately...i haven't figured out how to tweak the settings to get what i like, and the bed isnt as large as i'd like.

hey you're still alive! cool haven't seen ya around lol-- anyways me and league created a new sketchgroup cause our old one failed be cool if you could join, more of the old gang

your thumbnails are impressive , you should do more of those! and then bring those into some of your fullsize art too

tbh self portraits are just a thing you have to keep grinding away at, and for me i have to remember to draw the form rather than attempt to draw a picture through a portal/window. that and trying to get a good likeness, expression, changing the POV, and then whatever artistic explorations you can get in

i know you love doing washes, and i love the tone of yours too but i'm pretty sure even actual watercolor washes can be worked a lot more

besides that: i think maybe working on more natural poses, i love the awkward elegance but they can have more flow i think

    it was nice seein ya!
