sounds interesting, does it have to be an actual historical event or can it be made up fantasy?

PLZ Mistress Chaos, explain a bit further, does it have to be something historical? Could it be fantasy or futuristic too? Maybe on another planet altogether? And by campaign. is it enough to show military tents, tanks, planes and such or should it be obvious that there is a special activity going on there?

I like the snow and army stuff... Might give this a try if I get the time...

    um
    left it open on purpose

doesn't have to be historical, can be fantasy
    doesn't have to be earth

    Has to be winter
Is an environment so action does not have to be taking place.
has to be a military camp.

the rest is up to you

This is called Sky Defence. They are towers that can be hooked onto clouds. They keep an eye out for any invaders and also help to fight the airbourne attackers.

you may be right, i dont know myself. just when i think of watch towers i think of solid structures around a town or fortress, and not something mobile like a camp. but if there was a way you could show them mobile in the same way blimps or zepelins were, then your probably right.

I remember there was an EOW theme called "Winter Battlefield." It's a cold world out there.

Final. But I ain't happy with the outcome.

    Background:
The encampment featured in this picture is a terran outpost near the enemy border on the outer belt planet Wolf 9929, where perennial night reigns. Accordingly, the climate on this distant world is harsh - temperature never rises above -50 C degrees.
The main purpose of this forward base is performing long-range scans of the enemy front as well as sending off scouts, spy troops and sabotage commandos.

    EoW WIP

More of a large scale base on a high plane at the moment. I still need to add some buildings in the middle ground and some background elements...oh and snow. Composition is pretty simple i hope its not too boring.

    FINAL

The advance encampment holds 50 men maximum,
assigned to keep an eye on, and taunt the city.
The knowledge of the advancing army is known to all
the frightened inhabitants, but the progress up the
glacier is slow, with siege engines often falling
    through crevasses.

I am not sure how far or how close to crop this one because it is an environment
concept, but the camp itself is also an environment. hmmm. . .
    thoughts?!

Ceejay nice to see you changed the image, you got me a little worried then

Ikuru your step pyramid shadow is way off, draw some simple waypoint lines from your sun to the corners of all your objects in front, and that should basicly work out all your shadow directions or if you got bryce or some other simple 3d program, build a simple pyramid in there and light it up, so you can get the proper lighting effect, or alternatavly and easier, just get a couple small cubes(match boxes, or even books are better) build it similer to a pyramid and then add some kind of light effect behind, and work from there.

My first environment entirely made by hand. Before I always used mixed 3d – 2d technique. I have a lot of pleasure making this one and hope to finish it before deadline. As it’s my first env made this way it’s open for yours comments and critique. My point was to find some other colors than white for winter. Aha, and second objective – military camp is not yet completed
