Nice studies, I'm sorry to hear that those life drawings are cancelled. Next time, try to use the things you learned from your studies in your life drawings
Nice slaves , for the axe warrior, I think his head is a little bit too small. Nothing big though.

    Keep it up !

Your figure/life drawings are great, some really dynamic gestures coming through, and you can see the difference they are making to your imagination stuff. Your faces are coming along great as well.
It looks like a lot of your work is reasonably quick, maybe try doing a few longer drawings/paintings every now and then. Will help you push values and improve rendering.
Oh, and good job on the meeting sketches!
    Peace

mc2mc2 Thanks.. u are too kind.. I got a feeling ur life drawing is gonna be 50 times better than mine in a few months time...

Hammed Al-Tamimi Thanks for the encouragement. Design is one of my weakest aspect and I try to work my imagination daily.

danlambert Figure drawing is one of my passion. Just love the way the human body is constructed ! I have been working rather small and fast cos of lack of time per day i guess. Having a full time job really leave u with not much time at night though I feel lucky i dont really have overtime work at this job. I having been contemplating bigger and more complete work but I am still thinking abt it. But i probably wont be doing any huge color work. Concentrating on my drawing and studies and learning watercolor to learn my colors (cos watercolor is cheap ) Let see when I feel confident enough to move on to a full scale project

Pixie Bergman Thanks !! I say my imagination is still rather lacking. Not enough visual memory. Have to really work on that.

So here this week's crap.. No life drawing class this week again and not drawing much... Still recovering from cough... I did a watercolor which i think is so bad i decide not to show it !

Here is a master drawing from a russian artist.

DUDE, look at your progress! Damn, it's awesome. Don't say that about your paints, it's a WIP. Looking at the way you are going, in a month or two, it will look a whole lot better.

So sorry Zal and i can't meet up today, we both got the bug. (And he still felt guilty for getting you sick the previous time. ) But in any case, we hope to see you soon!
    Take care ya?

Like the guy a couple posts up, I can see definite improvement since the first page, very nice work. I noticed that there is a strong sense of solidity in your life drawings but not so much with your drawings done from memory. I think emphasizing the edges (where one plane turns into another) a little more would help it look more three dimensional. Just try to keep in mind where the closest edge to you in space is and make it more prominent (darker) than the receding edge which would basically be the on the outline. I guess that could be called atmospheric perspective. Hope this helps, good luck with your work.

    Heya.

Yes you will prevail! Great studies, keep it up man.

Something I noticed is that the hands are looking a little stiff in some of your imaginative works, also the size of it is off sometimes. vary the bends in the fingers and thin out the lines a little.

    More More!

Sir Cam Thanks!!.. I also notice that too. I somehow draw differently when i am drawing big versus when I am drawing small. For my life drawing, I seems to be more free in my strokes while in my imagination drawing, I am drawing small and I feel somehow very cumbersome. Not sure if thats the reason. But I will try to work on smaller pieces maybe to get used to it.

JeanShade Thanks dude... Not good at drawing hands.. They are tough!!.. I will work on them more...

Lyno Thanks !!.. I believe the only way to proficiency is through effort...

Busy two weeks. Didnt have a lot of time per night to really work on anything. So here is the pathetic dump....

hey man, thanks for swinging by my book! I like what you have going on. Keep rocking the life drawing stuff-its really valuable! Also-study head construction and general anatomy. That will give strength to your figures. Gotfried Bammes (sp?) is a German guy who has a book you can D/L online that goes into it very well. You cant read it-but just look at the pictures!
    Keep it up!

Sirkenneth Thanks for dropping in too... Have the ebook but i hate drawing from images on the computer haa.. Got some chinese book on russian drawings. I found the style very similar to bammes. so i guess i will study that instead

Update from this week and some from last week which i didnt upload. Currently, different style is pulling my pants here and there.. realistic rendering, expressive tonal drawing, awesome linework... finding them all fascinating.. wonder if i can find my own voice among them....

Did a master copy of a page from a book on russian structural anatomy drawing. Will be doing more of these studies.

Cafe drawings. First page is half from long ago and only those blue drawings are from the cafe sketch session. As u can see i took a loooongg time to fill up the page so the subject matter are totally incoherent and non-thematic. and i think i tried too hard to filled up every corner of the page, resulting in a ugly clutter...

Well what can I say but your stuff rocks and your are a few levels well ahead of me. The only thing I might say is do more sketches in just pen and pen alone because I have been learning that is is a great way to learn how to commit to line as well as live with mistakes that you can learn from later.

Imagination is not a total internal power but rather it is a reflection and multi-faceted projection of our experiences and knowledge. We take in information from the world around us and intuitively re-order it into something new. Something is not created from nothing but simply transformed from what was before.

Last update is SICK! Keep doing that. I like the russian studies, and the cafe drawing is going well. Make sure to nail those proportions and what now- if not just try and find the gesture of the pose!

Ito Saith Webb Thanks for the compliment. I totally like the feel of using pen and its directness. I almost always use pen for cafe sketching, as a way of training my confidence with my strokes.

Sirkenneth Thanks !! I tend to be very slow in drawing so I will always goes for the people who will be sitting there for a long time ...

So lets start with a drapery study of Leonardo's work. He is really really amazing and i learn alot from copying his work

    Mydrako,
It is always worth even a tiny drawing amount, it all adds up.
Some nice Master studies. I think one of the things that will help push you forward is structure...the hard box that all the soft muscles are sitting on. In some of your drawings of the face, the front is the side, there is no clear separation of planes. In your Henry Yan copies there is strong sense of bone as well as flesh. That bone structure describes the planes. Think in terms of a box with 4 sides, a top and bottom. Look at Bridgeman heads. Simple blocks without features.

I like what you're doing. Keep adding knowledge to your mileage.
