hey anthis,
saw ur sb and I'm realy impressed. saw the first page and i know how tough it is to improve ur art if u are a self-taught artist (hobby-artist?)
well I saw the frog at first and I realy don't know if it's okay or not but I have to show u a pic of ur frog. I did a screenshot and do some modifications. hope u aren't angry! and i don't know if it's allowed.
the right picture is the modification. i did some effects on the right eye and some shadow on the left one. and i worked with adjustments like "Curves" and "Levels" to push up the picture.
by the way maybe u could add a comment if this was helpful and legal ?!![]()

jNeumann; Will do! thanks
Merē.Jorg'; Well, it's certainly going to be more from now on!
Kapri; Cheers ;P Just saw your post in the NL thread- yea we should get some sketchmeets going again!
Sushy; Thanks, replied in your SB!
T-eight; Of course that's legal- and thanks! I'd prefer the old colour of the suit, because of the contrast with the green skin. I do like the levels/curves adjustments, the image seems to "pop" more. The impression may be stronger. Thanks! Sending a PM.
sony; THANNNNNKKS!!!!
eclip-se; Thanks for that! A piece of advice is just to go for it and draw without hesitation or limitations. Don't be afraid of failure either. I believe this realization has been more helpful than simply doing studies.
So, a bunch of stuff happened during summer and CA's maintenance.
For starters, after months of hell it appears that I'm finally graduating!!!!!!! The odd thing is, I'm happy with graduating but more happy that this is actually over with. I haven't much enjoyed the last years of college whereas my love for art has been increasing. So that puts me in an awkward position, something I need to figure out quick.
All of that put aside, I've gotten back into drawing/painting full force. I'll be updating daily now, if I can help it!
top to bottom:
-forgotten earlier figure drawing
-Dutch sketchmeet results. Poses are between 5 and 25minutes. B or 2B pencil, a4 sketchbook. Was a fantastic sketchmeet, 15 people at least.
-imagination figures for the Spartan Camp activity

Hell yes, more sketchmeets! Cool to see your version of the same model I posted in my SB. That pose was great, I really like how her leg turns inward behind her other leg.
Edit: I'm gonna match you on that daily post promise. I'll try to paint / draw something worth posting every day too.

hi Anthis
congrats for your graduation !
you seems full of energy for a new era of drawing/painting XD
i'm very glad you're going to post daily. how about getting the weekly exercises back.
for your figures, i suggest you try to darken some of your line to suggest volumes or shadow.
some men arms are thin like women
good luck for your nexts

Kapri- I went to a different sketchmeet a while ago, organised through Facebook. In hindsight I should have called you too (don't have your FB) and I regret not doing so, sorry about that. Knew very few people and wasn't sure how it would turn out but it was great.
zou- Yes, I'm quite eager to draw at the moment. But things are a bit strange too, with just having graduated. I intend to post loads though. I'll send out a group PM to check the rest of the SSG. It's like you said- I need to work on those values. It's always lineart with me ;|.
- Moleskine stuff. Looks fine on my monitor but do tell me if they're too dark. Tends to happen.
- 2d drawing jam entry (cghub). Topic was redesigning characters from Disney's Lady and the Tramp. I picked the two main chars. Was tough as nails.... I need some exercise in design.
Edit1: Also, I'm not sure why the images show up in a smaller size. By-product of the new batch uploader?
Edit2: seems fixed? struggling a bit.

sony; Thanks a great deal sony, much appreciated. I'll remember that. What a mess. Right, let's move on.
Today's update;
Quick warmup sketches, from ref.
Then ~30 to 40min environments.
And a New Worlds (Cghub activity) entry. Topic was "forgotten plains". Supposed to be lands torn and shaped through war.

Loving these pencil studies. Post more, also post more of your spartan sketches here to get constructive critics! Because there's a lack of flow in your Hampton drawings and long time pencil drawings. The fast lines in the spartan threads got this flow. Maybe it could help, if you start like a fast scribble for a spartan thread, but change then to your slow detailed style. It looks like the fear of the mistake to me. As soon as you don't fear to destroy a piece, your faster intuitive lines will upgrade the long time drawings also.
surus - I'm trying to vary drawing speed a great deal now, hoping that the gesture flow will bleed into the longer studies and drawings. It's tough, like you said when I do longer drawings the linework gets cold and clinical. I do think I'm losing the fear though, which is still slow process but starting to feel much better. Thanks for the comments, valid points. Just.. so much to practise -_-.
Discovered a character generator over at the Crimson Daggers forums and got addicted instantly. The descriptions you get can be pretty challenging, especially if you just random away without skipping. Made some painful mistakes along the way and learned a bit too. Great exercise. Will most likely do this more often.
Warmups and two longer ones. Names are clickable for the descriptions
Left to right, top to bottom are:
Gloria Hinton(20min)
Damien Smets(20min)
Annette de Pauw(20min)
Paulette Raynal(3hr)

hey man
great warming xD
i like very much the last war plain with the two space ships down.
and your characters design are great too (some of them have so small hands !)
hope to see some digitals
and many thanks for sharing the character generator
cheers
that shriveled up frog dood looks great!!
i agree that the warm ups are great and the final "forgotten plains" is a good start, if you want to take it further. The war torn and ravagd part sure shows. Like the character sketches too.

zou; I'll look into those hands, because it seems you're right. That's a strange mistake. The character generator is a fun exercise and I think its very worthwile, you should give it a try!
kevin_; Cheers!
bbwolf; Wasn't sure how to continue.. I just kept going at it and adding details but I don't think it was getting me much further. Need more exercise on environments ;S
Fell behind on updates but I've got loads of sketches and unfinished stuff lying around.
Reffed stuff for the Spartan Camp first. Used a set of reference PDFs provided by surus (Link Here). (note; you can change numbers in his links to obtain more volumes)

I know what you mean with the environments. But you do a lot of studies it seems so thats good.
A few light textures might do it some good to illustrate and telegraph the fact that the stuff has been there a looooong time.
New looking structures in concrete over almost decayed and rusted down stuff. Adding more details and felsh things out. The
clouds for instance. But I do get the fact that after a certain point in time its hard to go back to a piece and keep working on
it. Sometimes it happens that after a certain period I can revisit and continue working on it. But mostly I work on something
until I can call it finished - otherwise it ll stay the way it is atm.
Love the fabric studies btw and the girl in the water looks good too. Gets the point of the water across nicely

youR pencil characters are looking good my friend veRy good work, veRy good control with the rendering maybe just brinG out some of the values a bit more in terms of contrast between lights and darks.
dang Anthis. Impressive work here! Really makes me want to turn up the volume in my own work!
Keep going Anthis! Going to follow this sketchbook!
PS: I just checked back from the start and man...your initial anatomy sucked! Hahaha
Kidding, but you make yourself look bad, that's awesome progress! Your poses from imagination are really awesome.
I will have to study more anatomy and draw in my sketchbook more often. I want to be as good as you!![]()

Happy birthday mate
bbwolf; Thanks, good points. Was entirely unsure when to call that one finished. I did contemplate about those textures. Had a tough time deciding what to do, since those details and textures should fade away in the distance. Like you said, exactly why you do studies.
ja1307; Noticed that after scanning, I'll try some techniques with like a 4b or so pencil next time. Thanks!
Hamorhage; Haha! Yea exactly.. It's fun to look back every now and then... just don't look at it for too long. I believe I still have a very long way to go but I'm now convinced of the power of all these studies.
Sushy; Not sure, either I'm not fast enough, or it just takes really long for me to learn. Either way, not satisfied yet. I looked at folds reference but tried to come up with my own folds, so its sort of semi-reffed, hehe. Also I studied biology, followed by the ecology master ;P
zou; WHOA! hahahaha, I had not expected that. That made my day. I like what you did with the expression
. Good stuff!
edit; last image displayed in smaller size again. trying to fix.
Was working on several things at the same time so I'm sorting out the wips and rubbish.
For now, two sketches (DSG) and an entry for the Illustration of the Week. Topic was "kraken attack". This is the final version but I'll probably try to refine it to produce a worthy portfolio piece.

bbwolf - Thanks. That one was a surprise success, like a lucky accident. Strange stuff.
Joining the IDW/EOW crossover challenge with Chris Sanders. Here's sketches and thumbs. The context is a merfolk colony and some of their technology. Starting out with one of the topics, the merfolk prosthesis allowing movement on land and human interaction. Did some hasty sketches to get some random merfolk ideas as well.

hi there anthis
your merfolk proposition seems very cool,
the dsg studies are awesome too
nothing to crit keep up
Heya zou, sorry I forgot to actually post the alphabet SSG study even though I finished it a week ago. You'll find it below in between the other gestures.
Imagination gestures. The one with the letters is a SSG study suggested by zou. figs inspired by a diwani style alphabet.

More merfolk stuff.
Used Chris Sanders' designs, changed em a bit, tried some clothes. Then more prosthetics which would allow them to make short land trips. Then some human-merfolk joint science labs.
Pretty messy and scribbly, trying to get the hang on quick thumbnailing and generating ideas.
