A bit late but congratulations on graduating! great to see you post more and such lovely gestures/life drawings and environments, nice variations on the Mer-folk. I am definitely checking out the random character generator as well, those are looking awesome, especially the last two . nothing to crit really, just keep it up I guess so I can pop by for inspiration

zou- Yea, you picked a nice alphabet for that study. I don't think I quite captured the essence of those letters, those are very refined shapes. I agree I like the designing part most.
Angel Intheuk- Thanks for that. Just need to get more regular with posting and just... do more. I'll post a new batch of characters soon, I think it's an inspirational exercise.


These were the final entries for the crossover challenge. Posting them both, but I have to admit Chris did most of the rendering on the environment! So check out his sketchbook! Just posting for good measure.

Cool to hear that you entered the spartan camp thing, hope it works out for you dude, keep rocking! i was looking at the crimson daggers thing and puzzled how to get involved, nm... keep posting.

Good Crimsons Daggers and overall SB work, Anthis. Looking at some of your figure work, I think they would be improved even more so if you focused on construction as well as fluidity. I'm subbed.

Chris Sanders - Nothing special about it, you just register on the website and hop right in. Acitivity is moderate, unfortunately. But it's a fantastic tool.
MrFrenik - Woah! Exciting >_> Yea balancing between construction and organic drawing is tough for me. When I construct, things get stiff. When I go for a more organic and natural approach, I lose track of proportions. I'll try to do both and see if I end up in some sort of ideal middle way.

Lol the caricature is great! I had to google him but you got the likeness down, his eyebrows could probably do with being a bit further apart and slightly bushier but that's the only crit really.

Angel Intheuk - True enough, I added the eyebrows both too late and too hasty. Attempting some sort of likeliness makes you realize that the details count, really. Happy new year to you as well! And I sure hope so too! Though I feel that will depend entirely on my own efforts.

Hey anthis, some really solid stuff of late dude. You're killing me with those figures, making me feel bad about not doing figure work. Damn right you're getting serious; the renderings coming along well. That bear piece is pretty cool, perhaps some ambient occlusion shadows on the bear and the foreground elements to pop them. I like the design and the comp. Maybe a few spears or something in the imediate fore ground to introduce an overlapping element infront of the bear statue if that makes sense. i like how you handled the snow. Keep at it buddy!

Zou - Yea thanks there are a couple of areas where I'm definitely slacking. Thanks for pointing out. Those hands are going to need some rough studying to make it right.
Chris Sanders - Cheers Chris, valuable stuff. I couldn't seem to figure out how to make the bear fit in its environment. So much to factor in with the shape, material properties, all sorts of lighting and everything. Can't pick my values and colours. That's the stuff I need to practice on really. Some design wont hurt either. I also had to look up "occlusion shadow". Had no idea. Well, moving on. And yes, desperately trying to get serious. Thanks!

I liked where this was going initially but something must have went wrong along the way.

Also lifedrawings done at a free workshop held by the Wackers academy at the Realisme13 art fair in Amsterdam.

Charcoal on ~A2 size paper. 10, 20 and 20 minutes respectively, give or take. Not too happy with the results but I received good critique from the teacher they had walking around.

your chow entry is not bad at all, if want to push it. you might make torso a bit bigger (in height)
his arms should be longer
put more intense colors in his flesh parts
his head is actually interesting, u can make him more frightening by exaggerating him more (more protruding forms)

Great studies and enviros I agree that to capture likeness everything is in the details. I think that is a point you could carry over to your chow entry. I really like the design and the composition is interesting but I think if you'd pushed the angles more it would look more dynamic, maybe perspective practice? Also you could have pushed the values a lot further (and the colour, as zou mentioned) and possibly work on your edges more? (pick and choose which edges you want to lose and and which ones you want to sharpen to add contrast and interest) I noticed that with your studies too, I think it would bring them up to the next level.
