Nice sketchbook Anthis! Really nice studies throughout the last page. The colossal insect piece in your last post is great.
I will leave you with one crit, (though you dont need to take action, just bear it in mind in future), to me the boy (or devil, depending on how you look at it) in the last chow piece seems a little "pasted" into the scene. To me he looks a little detatched from the overall image, I reckon this is down to a minor perspective issue.

Nonetheless, keep up the great work!!

Arteater; Arteater! I'll check you out. Long time since I've seen you in the C.o.w. Thanks, I very much hope so!
zou; Tonal perception... That's the same as values right? Or different. It needs more exercise either way though. Working on it but it's not going easy.
MacTire; Very true. I rushed him.. Good point though, he does look detached, probably because I added him rather late.
NoodleDoodle; It feels painstakingly slow to me! No other way but to keep up the pace though. Double time!
Lakeland; Hah! With ceiling Lakeland in your back, there is no other way but forward.
Dizon; I need to shorten that long run!

Finished some exams again, and got some time to give myself an anatomy boost. On the other hand, I'm letting my SSG down on the group project. I scrapped my previous concepts.. I'll give it a fresh start.

Also - This week featured the 89th edition of the SPARTAN CAMP (under community activities! Join up!). An exercise to draw 50 gestures along with an optional study weekly. I've been doing these weekly almost from day 1. I however rarely post them as they are mostly scribbles. It keeps me going though. Here's some of the latest.

Good gestures anthis; really well done. Just watch the volume of ankle for many poses they seems too thin. excellent stuff :0 though

    hi anthis

those gestures rocks, espacially the very last one.
for the post 125 last heads: the shading is a bit confusing (is it one light ?) maybe you should think that head have also gesture, begin the head like gesture

keep rocking the studies. In regards to your digital painting I think you could improve greatly by doing master studies. I highly recomend sargent, rembrandt, carravagio, but those are kinda picked from a hat because there's so many masters you could look at.
I think doing these studies would improve your rendering because you will pay more attention to direction of brushstrokes, value and colour relations.

I really like the evil looking creature with the 2 heads and exposed rib cage.

    Hi Anthis
Been a bit hectic recently so not had chance to do any gestures for ages. I hope to get some done soon (as well as some 'Jack' stuff - I've sadly not done much either recently).

Anyway really enjoyed looking at your updates, love the devil with the kid ( I agree the kid looks a bit flat in comparison to the devil, but just looks like you enjoyed painting the devil more, it shows, great characterisation)

MeTaL-Mike; No problem, see you at a nl sketchmeet someday!
sony; Good point. I know ankles are a problem for me, didn't realize they were getting too thin though.
zou; They're all from reference, and I remember some of them had pretty odd lighting. Which didn't work out too well. Thanks for the reminder!
D@niel; Cheers, progress is slow.. all I can do is practice more!
NoodleDoodle; I'm trying hard to capture a realistic feel. But as soon as poses get more complicated, things go bad real quick.
Jamsey ; I hope I'll be a better inspiration someday Other artists on CA inspire me too.
CamSyko ; Thanks for that reminder. I was planning to do those myself, but it just wouldn't happen. I've started some and I think they really help. Thank you.
Angel Intheuk; Same for me, unfortunately. Finally time for the Jack story now though, so thats the first I'll be doing. Good point on the devil piece, it's exactly how it went.
Dizon; Varied sources. Above are from imagination, but I always keep reference nearby. Because you want to learn the right thing. I use posemaniacs.com sometimes. Characterdesigns is a really good site, as is this one. This topic has a lot of links archived. Really good too.
zou; Yea I feel bad about it :|

Finally done with the last exams of this year... and finally some time for art again. I'm determined to get better this vacation.
Need to improve the basics, so for now referenced studies. Last two are from Sargent.

zou; Thanks, I realize there is little concepting going on, I think I'm getting stuck because of my lack of fundamentals.
BlackDelphin; I enjoy crosshatching but perhaps I'm getting stuck in it too much. I learned most of it from studying Bridgman and Loomis, if you're interested!

A crappy rushed "creature of the week" entry,
And more studies. I need to get better at this. I've attached the original reference to one of them for comparison.

    Next up are sketches/concepts though!

The sitting girl has some warm orange-ish colors reflecting on her face as well as a cooler green color on her back. Try using a properly sized soft brush with a low opacity and flow setting to quickly lay those in. Use the right size of brush to lay those in in at least 1-3 strokes and then just refine if necessary. Also experiment in using other layer modes such as Overlay, Color dodge, Soft light, etc. and see what those do. You can easily get wonderful effects by using those.

    Later!

    My sb is double-post-hexed!

zou; "Measure twice" - Thank you for that, I seemed to have forgotten. Accurate points, I got sloppy in the end.
Dizon; Thanks for the points on workflow, and the use of layers. I hardly ever use those modes, but I'm trying to get to know them. Also, I often do not see these colours. Now that you mention, I think I can see it. There really is a faint colouration from the surroundings there, and probably on other spots too. Thank you!
NoodleDoodle; Haha, that's too much. I am now putting more effort in this though, I'd like to get better.

    Quick sketches!

    Studies from ref too.

I think these go a long way towards getting a sense of colour. Trying to use the sampler only to check.
Movie still is from "The Proposition"

    good work,
a suggestion about the landscape: perhaps accentuating aerial pers should enhance them.

The sketch that's labeled newborn is great! Might I suggest adding rim lighting to separate the creature from the dark BG.

    Cool studies also!

Wow man, great updates! you are putting me to shame!!

No crits really except the latest landscapes seem to be missing some depth, the mountains in the distance should be slightly desaturated and blurrier than the mid-ground and then the foreground should be the most in focus and saturated (as standard practice dictates...but that's just what I've read really, might be worth playing with. also maybe add in some contrasting colours here and there to draw the eye around the picture. Just a thought anyway
