Squid Pro Quo -The Sketchbook of Mitchell Malloy

Hey, my name is Mitch Malloy, and welcome to my sketchbook "Squid Pro Quo." This sketchbook is dedicated to my growth and expansion as an artist, so if you have any critiques at any time please let me have them. I'm interested in what all of you have to say, and anything helps. And because I like to kick things off with a bang, some figuring drawings for you!!

All were done at AAU in SanFran in a Pre-College course. All are 3-13 inches tall on paper and all were done using live models. I probably got the black lung from all the charcoal in the air though, haha!

(PS: current age is 16, in case any of you felt the need to know--or in case i felt the need to sound like some sort of prodigy HA. Oh god that sounded stuck up)

New picture used for my pixelfighter ID on dA. It's supposed to be a muy pimp version of me. My first successful experiment with this type of coloring. >_> enjoy.

Wow really great sketches. What a figures

. But i think shading would be better if i was not 1level. Last one awesome but thos lines in both sides of nose not good, it would be better if u erase it i think.

Guy you are a freakin champion! If there is one thing I can say for crit it's that in alot of the figure drawing bits you seem to be finishing the torso and faces to this incredibly high level and then getting to the hands and feet and being like "oh well, no time" and leaving them a little fuzzy. Maybe you have tons and tons of hands and feet on seperate sheets, in which case can you please post them because I am sure they'll be pretty

throtailer: I tried to shade on many different levels but it's hard to tell with as crappy of scans as I got. D: And I'll conside that remark about the creases in the mouth/cheek area and maybe find a way to keep them and tone them down. Thanks!!

lying prophet: I could post all of my crappy ones too, but they're nowhere near as good. Would you still want to see them though?

foxinshocks: Thanks for you kind words, but unfortunately I lack very many studies. I have more pictures to show if you're interested, but not all of them are very good. For the most part, you're right about me running out of time on these and only finishing a portion because of it. But most of the detailed ones took 40 minutes out of an hour's given time (I would usually go through a few crappy pieces before finding one I liked enough to continue), so they were already quite a bit rushed, if that's any excuse at all. Either way, just let me know if you'd liek to see some other sketches. :>

Just a progress shot of a picture I started 30 minutes ago or so. Went through 2 drafts before settling on this one. Still not done, but I'm in class and I figure now is a good time to get some suggestions. So please, if you have any ideas on how to improve this lot, just let me know!

EDIT: after a half an hour break, i came up with these roughs. let me know what you think... i'll be working into it

Kick-starting this thread again with a new mission: to update this thing daily, or at least with one image for every day I don't post.

This is fairly old and I only now just finished it. Goal was to only use small round brushes. Hope you like.

Speedpainting of a desert done in about 1 hour. I made two versions since I wasn't sure if the construct added or detracted from the overall image. Still, hope you guys enjoy.

Thanks for the comments over on my new Sketchbook and wanted to return the favor and see what you're capable of.
I'd like to be able to do a desert scene like that (lived in Cairo and Morocco for a short time so it's near to my heart). I think I've got most the basics down for it but getting it all to come together's another story.

Another post before the sketchdump. Just found this on my computer from about 4 months ago unfinished and i spent about 45 minutes adding that crappy background and doing some touchups. It's not really very good but eh, it'll do.

Because I did not have the time to scan every single sketch, I scanned only the ones I thought were particularly appealing, or which were near completion. Not all of these are finished, but most of them some day will be. Until then, enjoy.

Decided to start doing these after having seen them around before. Just some color tests, done in no particular order. I learned a lot from these. So much fun!! However I know not all of them are every good. Hopefully that will change
