I really think that something is wrong with this piece, but I can't find what ...
Plus, I need an advice on the format ! Traditional or vertival ?
It's a commission for a friend, his avatar on wow.I know the pose of the guy is too static, I've done it without ref unfortunately.

Looks fine to me, vertical is best, probably. Photo manip, is it?

I like the second one with the smoke going off to the right, gives more of a sense that this character has surroundings around him.

I really like the touch of having the flaming embers floating about. Since this guy looks kind of old, I sorta wish there was more wrinkles on his face and forehead.

    Best,
    kev

I was going to comment about color saturation, but then I remembered it was Warcraft whose style is wery much about pastel colors so I'll let that pass.

Looks pretty good, I like the left on the best because I feel that in the second one there becomes too much empty space around the character. Wich is also somewhat the case for the first picture as well. He has this big black space overhis head, I don't know if you plan on adding some text there but I would add some background detail up there. What I think would look good was if you took the smoke and embers and let them rise up behind him in an S sorta shape if you know what I mean. Would fill in the empty background and make the picture less static.

@ dashinvaine : I ll let choose my friend the format ... can't decide myself ^^".That's not photomanip, just a paint on Photoshop

    @ kev ferrara : thanks

@ Fingus : I've lowered a little the saturation, even if it's warcraft it was kind of weird ...
I've also added some more smoke around him ... At the begening, i didn't planed to do much on this piece, considering the static pose of the guy.So I think i'll let it as it is now.

the proportions of the head were wrong, now its's ok.

    Thanx all for your crit'

    Uh. Lighting.

why is there light on the top of his head? It defies all logic. From what I can tell, the fire is BELOW his face.

i think the skin of the man must be more shiny and more details on his forehead i think it would be great if he have a kind of facial expression like he is angry or something ... good luck
