Man, I like them, but I think you should take a bit more to make them more challenging for yourself. 5 minute stuffs are basically sketches. Of the three on this last page, I like the hands "portrait" the most: lots of energy in it. Still, I think your ideas can be stronger if you invest a little more time in them.

Great ideas. Maybe you could push colour palette a bit in your self portraits. Try some different combination of hues to get stronger mood. So far it was usually desaturated orange with even more desaturated orange of almost the same value for highlights.
The last one looks great for five minutes.
But the most important in this activity. Have fun.

@GriNGoLoCo: Thanks man, I do what I can with the time I have. Working around 12 hour a day these day's.... I'll try to invest an hour when I can. So far almost every drawing are around 20-30minute. My 1st goal is to do one every day.
@Farvus: Obviously a bad mood today. I'll try to make some different color next time

O_o, for some reason I am ''banned'' from photobucket...
You don't have permission to access /albums/n92/Bhrazz/ on this server.
I always felt that photobucket is a bit buggy. Maybe it's something temporary. Just wait for the next day
I can see your bad mood on the last one.
Cheers.
Happy halloween. Nice result when drunk X_X

Hmm... that's interesting.
I dig the pencil one. Only the contour near the ear is a bit too strong. It attracts too much attention.
Keep it up!
lol, looks like liberty statue with the crown thing. I like the eyes in 111. You should try to add some curves in your lips. keep it up duude
WhiteC is right, you do look like the statue of liberty!! Happy Halloween, lol.
Today's portrait is cool, but you made your face a bit too long. Of all the recent ones you've done I like 108 the best. It's the most well-proportioned and it catches the eye.
@WhiteC: Yeah I agree...
@Arish: Happy Halloween U2! I'm still having lots of trouble on pencil. I wish to see more from you!
Hey. 1Nov self portrait is nice. I think you should try working on values more. I think some master studies would help.
too many test on one piece. But heh, is funny

I cheated for that one, thanks to the photocopier at work

Hey, I was wondering where you went. Photocopier one... LOL. Don't do that too much, you'll get radiation poisoning or something. Anyway, I like the variety in these. Your proportions are getting a lot better.![]()
hey bhrazz, nice update. Last one shows a nice improvement in your shading, however, your digital still look too ''blurry'' and ''watercolor like'' to me, you should not be affraid to use more opacity in your brush, or take some time to smooth your colors together. You should also avoid adding too much white with a low opacity bursh ( portrait 119 ) because it desaturate the color and dont create the specular effect you seem to be looking for.Your eyes and nose are getting a lot better but work on those lips and ears. Keep it up
Thought I'll post it here also. I been painting these SP the last 2 day's. LOT OF FUN!
Acrylics on Bristol paper. 8.5X11
Hope you like it

yo dude, whats up.. well ill be the first to comment, and I'll write what I really think since i know you well. Interesting ideas in those last one the ''coulisse'' effect works well in the first one, looks like hair or ''rasta'' but in the 2nd one I think the way you placed them breaks the composition of the painting. Now, on the 2 paintings, to be honest the proportion could have been a lot better, IMO you should work more on proportion on your sketches before painting them, you still have stuff to learn before spending too much time on 1 piece. even if its just for fun, you would improve a lot faster this way/ On the first one the lips are really weird, and we dont really understand where the light is coming from, the 2nd one, you tried to do a ''top view'' but the eyes are placed as if it was a front view. Hope you understand what I mean, you should do morep encil sketches like post 125, and not only self portrait, anatomical study of the whole body too, skeleton, muscles etc. Keep it up !
I agree with everything you said. I messed up on the second with the coullise. but heh, no undo
Also, I'm still experimenting the medium. The reason why I 'spend' to much time on 1 piece is because I try to render a final piece. I'm still at the very bottom of ''learning'' to draw. I should, indeed do more sketches and studies but right now I'm just going with the fun part. 2008 will have more studies
I'm not trying to make any excuses by the way, I know your right and I'll be probably working on that soon enough. Thanks for your crits btw, keep being honest, I'll rather have honest friends than polite!
Hey. You posted lots of self portraits since my last visit. I like 118, 122 and 123.
I agree with WhiteC about the proportion problems. There's also some problem with colours beacause they often appear very dull and desaturated. I still don't have much experience with that but try painting this way and see what happens - saturated colors on the light side (leave some brighness for highlights, make shadows darker instead of light side brighter), shadows are little bit more desaturated than light side, not much highlights and use bright colour for them (close to white).
Also look at this tutorial and especially at Color Identity part (you can find the link in table of contents) - http://itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm
I think in many cases you have values like on this left cylinder and colour is lost so it looks gray.
Keep it up!
I admire your willingness to do a self-portrait every day, that can be pretty hard to do. It's awesome that you are so hardcore for your art, but like a couple of people said already, make sure you are studying you anatomy as well. If you intensely study each day, then use your self-portrait to show off what you have done, not only will we be able to see the fruits of your labor, but you will be able to look back on your self portraits and see how much you have improved.![]()
