    Smile First speedpaint

Hi guys! This is my first post on CA, even though I've lurked here forever, drooling over all the beautiful art you guys submit.

Anyway, one of my fave art types are speedpaints. I finally worked up the balls to actually try one....

Please, I want harsh crits. Tear it apart.

    Thanks in advance!

After staring at this for a couple of minutes, I think I see some kind of creature, but I am not completely sure. Part of the problem is that there is not enough contrast between the foreground and background elements. I realize that you are probably going for some kind of dark, moody effect, but it is more important in a speed paint for the art to read correctly and immediately. Right now this just isn't happening for me.

Huh, that's weird. It shows up clearly on my screen... maybe it's a computer backlight difference?

Thanks, though! I'll make them easier to understand next time. I was kind of afraid to mess around any more with it because I thought maybe I'd ruin it, or something.

I can see it, but some of the details are lost, especially the ear and such, but it could only help to lighten your background (or even the whole piece) a bit. You can do that by just adding a light wash of the blue.

I do think that the creature suffers from a lack of clarity the most. Give it a little more hard form - particularly the black in front of the blue - those should be vivid, vivid shapes.

I get that this is a speed painting, but that creature could definitely use some more detailing- play around with the lighting. Even if you want to get a dark mood, it's no good if we can barely see the point of the picture. Otherwise nice monster design, and interesting composition.

lookn good... an easy way to get a bit more detail out of it is just grab a hard edge brush and kinda go with the countours of the creature, considering its a speedpainting the countour lines should pop it out a bit

    peace,
