this sketchbook's new title is almost better than a chambered nautilis hat. damnit i want a chambered nautilis hat.

these figure moleskine pages are lookin good, if anything the space between your pencil marks could be decreased a little so that they create solid patches of tone instead of the jarring rthythm of dark lines that are more or less parallel. on the figure on the right here, said jarring line rthythm can be found on the legs. i know these are just quick sketches but a little line economy in these'll go a long way. it feels like there are a lot of great and interesting details that i'm missing out on because of the lack of definition.

ok, misses no-nipples here freaks me out...

I feel obliged to make an appearance.

You're putting the dirt time in, Webby. Not just sketching every day, but really taking advantage of the resources and outlets available to make something great happen. This is evident in the progress you've made in the past few months and your positive responsiveness to the suggestions of your peers.

Barring any future scanner issues, this page ought to light up with some truly sick concepts in the coming months. This is your time. Make it happen.

Trust Guggs. He won't lead you astray. You've got my comments on the rest, so I'll wait until next time.

I get a good feeling from the energy in this. And I'm digging Ms. Nautilus.
... a cry went up into the shuddering air, and faded to a shrill wailing, passing with the wind, a voice bodiless and thin that died, and was swallowed up, and was never heard again in that age of this world.

Guggs and KU, thanks you so much for the support and the crits. It means alot to me.

Guggs, i totally agree, and so does dre. My lines do tend to get very busy and distracting at times. I am looking at some great artists that work with that hatching type style to improve this. Its is one of my main goals as an artist to really make an impression with every line i put down and sometimes i feel like im huritng the drawing by adding lines that mean nothing and lead the reader away from the main focus of the image. I also think this will help me later on with the painting aspect and the final. using my marks ass a guide to mold the forms and bend the light and darks to really make my work pop.

I thank you both for the great advice.

    Slainte!

p.s. a huge thanks goes out to who ever gave me stars. made me feel like the work im doing is really paying off and has motivated me to become even better.

hey man, you've got some serious talent going on here- I am very impressed on the #66 post, those were really awesome. I like your pencils, even if they tend to get e little scribbly at times. You have a nice feeling form movement and dynamics in your pieces as well just watch out for making too many anatomy errors when you focus on the movement. Sometimes it feels like you redraw your lines several times, laying them on top of each other, this makes it feel like you are not as secure with your sketching style. I do however think that you are very sure of what you are about to draw and you do so very well, just try to stay cleaner and use broad strokes, use your entire arm, not just the wrist.

Whoa, a lot of crit there but dont take it the wrong way, I think you are rocking man, I would not bother with this if I didn't think so.

    ok
on second inspection the superhero pizza guy really speaks to me... like.. the color scheme is really working for me somehow. This color scheme attacks me with tomato sauce on the floor and a bag of flour dumped out on top, just for good measure. there's a pizza dough flying too. Little peperoni shurikens! awww. and now, the bread.

sweet looking work... i like the more vertical composition but it feels like there is a little dead space at the botttom... it gives me the impression he's flying...which i'm a little unsure if that's really the case. really nitpicky crit would be that the character's right knee is turned outward a little far. i think this is a strong piece... even though we all love tentacles it was for the best that they were left off of this delicious pie.

the monet is cool... when photographing a painting like this its helpful to zoom out a little outside the comp and take the pic on your drafting table /// deck /// or whatever... get the comp centered up and for the purposes of sketchbook here and for a sense of scale maybe put something in there to demonstrate the size. like for a tiny drawing in your sketchbook a penny would be a good size object. for a large format painting (also, my personal favorite size-reference to include...) a pair of scissors would work well. or just tell us the size in inches or meters, or fingerlesss-thumb-lengths. not a big deal really... but it helps to know the scale when analyzing these things. generally the larger, the more impressive.

and do take care of my homeboy hansel... he was excited to spend the holidays away from home.

    hey man
your work is coming along nicely
one thing i'll say is your line right now seems a little bit "scratchy" to me, that goes for the tones as well, i think thats because i see a lot of little lines that are used to define something that could be defined with one or one shade. doing contours always help increase the sweetness of line quality. however this is just my suggestion! you can take it or leave it!
    keep up the updates!

This last batch is looking very sweet. I very much like the second Medusa dreawing. Also, the pizza guy, is pretty much now in my top 5 favorite superheroes, so nicely done.

Now, for a harsh crit, since this is your portfoilo we're talkin 'bout. I know that you are a big fan of Marko, and it shows, but I think that you could scale it back a bit with those last two, a bit too many things to look at. The guy with the smoking mask reminds me of a post-apocalyptic Bossk (lizard bounty hunter from Star Wars, which is a plus). The one shoulder bell is a nice touch though, since he appears to be a rifleman. When a few elements are asymmetrical, it add a bit of interest, but with him, it appears that almost everything is that way, which makes it seem more or less thrown together.

Now to pick you up again. The rendering and detailing are superb. This is some of your best work. I'd love to see these in person nest time you come out for a meeting. The poses are getting to be more natural and believable. Keep it up man, you are be concepting and illustrating shit very soon, and feel free to destroy me over in my sketchbook as payback.

    Hey dude.
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement in my SB, I appreciate it a lot.

Your characters are looking good. Would like to see that Medusa finished!
"pizza-man-croplight" is awesome, haha. Very nice colours.
    Great Bridgeman studies.

I think your characters are a bit too busy, as nofinger has already mentioned.
Vary the level of detail throughout the character, put the detail work on your focal points. Also, try to vary your line weight, different lines for different materials, etc, this goes to help break things up and clarify your characters.

    Keep up the great work.

Hey!You are improving a lot! Some of your pencil work is fantastic, but messy.Try to be more clean! And focus on proportions when you are not doing an exagerate character. Also, try to improve your anatomy skills, cause some of the legs you draw are a little bit weird.
    Keep posting!!!!!
    Cheers!

Thanks for the driving and drawing tips! I live in Norway, so the rules are a bit different here. It's very strict.
Actually, I just copied the drawing you mentioned from that digital Loomis-book I have.
But you didn't tell me what kind of pencil you use! I must know! Also, do you try to keep it as sharp as possible?

Your drawings pretty much rock my socks. I was in fact sitting and browsing your SB when I got your comment. You actually inspired so much that I decided to go to the mall tomorrow to get a new sketchbook, a few pencils, and an eraser or two. Probably a pencil sharpener. The one I use to sketch in now fits in my back pocket and is used mainly for song writing. More of a thought-book than a sketch book.

    So... Pencil?

Great drawings I must say. Characters are looking sweet. The lines, in my opinion, could be more clean, not that scribbly. But it works well, it's just me.
