Here's a griffin I just started working on.. This is about an hours worth of time using a mouse. I always paint over these things again and again .. can never seem to get the detail or dramatic lighting I want. Guess that takes practice and patience. hmm...

Use harder brushes and vary the color more. A blue-ish/silver tone in the shadow might make it pop a li'l more, the highlight more saturated yellow too. The wing crossing the tail are caught in a tangent there.

Why are you using a mouse? Can't be healthy for your wrist. Kickass piece for mouse, but better get a tablet. Might help you speed things up.

Thank you cookiedough for the tips !! .. I went back in and added some sharper lines.. still have a long way to go before calling it done though

are you going to keep the background black, maybe you can have hime standing on top of a white castle with clouds in the backdrop

I will change the background later .. or more likely I will do a background on a different canvas and cut and paste him into it..
