    TLL - Sketchbook

    HI,
I'm a 17 years old german, who likes to draw. I decided so start my own sketchbook too, because I hope this makes me draw a bit more.

I'm rather new so it would be nice if you could tell me what I could change, so that I could learn some more things.
By the way, maybe someone could tell me where I could find some good anatomy tutorials.

Hey, nice start for your sketch book. Cody looks nice, though his chest shoulders and armor look a bit flat. The pencils look believable, great job!

As for tutorials? http://www.fineart.sk it's commen a lot, it's a great resource for anatomy, you should look especially into Loomis.

your digital tree is very nice and your aquarel pictures are gorgeous

your lifedrawing pics are starting to take off. i recommend you actually use a black pencil crayon...a waxy one if you can...it makes thing sso much faster and shading so much easier.

Thanks ped454. I tryed crayon one time but I didn't like the result so i used pencils again. Maybe I should give crayon a new try.

Robolus: Danke. Unser gespräch hat mich auch echt zum zeichnen animiert. Ich hab den ganzen letzten Tag gezeichnet.

So: Some old and new aquarel things (is it aquarel or watercolour in english??)

    Welcomen

Nice line drawings on the figure studies. You seem to have a good beginning grasp on the human body as well as foreshortening. I would suggest taking some more time on a few poses and really trying to work on anatomy and shading. Draw from life as often as possible!

The finished aquarell drawings are very nice. Great start, keep posting.

@Piranha Clan: I yould love to draw from life every day if possible. My problem is that I can't find any lifedrawing course or something like this near to my city. The only lifedrawing courses I find are in the holidays, but they are only for 7 days or less. 7 Days a year is not really enough I think but i don't know what to do against this problem.

You're really on your way here. Great eye for details in those paintings of the brushes. My big recommendation would be to loosen up with your figure drawing. Everything looks a little tight and meticulous. Get some rough gestures down, define the arc of the spine and the angles of the limbs, before you start in on tracing outlines. Don't worry about muddying up the surface; it'll help you achieve a much more natural-looking figure.

    Willkommen zu Conceptart!
your stuff looks good, just try to do more shading here and there since most of your stuff seems a little flat.

thanks all so much for answering!!

I don't understand this, could someone explain it to me please:
gtgauvin: Get some rough gestures down, define the arc of the spine and the angles of the limbs, before you start in on tracing outlines.
What does this mean. ( I'm not so good in english yet)

TTL: What I meant was that you should start simple when figure drawing. Start with stick figures and build the shapes of the body onto that, rather than trying to outline the body. I've included a quick sketch so maybe you'll see what I mean:

And for the record, that's not me. I never have, nor do intend to get glammed up and hang out at Harajuku.

Thanks gtgauvin, now I understand what you mean.

So here is an old oil-painting. It's not finished yet.The shadows of the two men are still missing.
(But I havent worked on it now for six month or so because I'm to lazy. Although the shadows would be finished in maybe 10 minutes)

Life drawing courses are nice if available, but you don't need them. Life is all around you. Go to a park, a coffee haus, get on a train...draw the people, objects, animals, and/or landscapes around you. Do a self portrait in a mirror. Sometimes that's almost better than drawing class. People out in public won't hold a pose for you so it forces you to do lots of gesture drawing, causes you to loosen up and learn to draw quickly and accurately.

Gtgauvin is right though, you need to loosen up a bit. Build up your drawings with simples shapes and gestures. It's much easier than trying to get every stroke exactly right on the first try. You can always go back and clean it up when you get that far.

Let's see something besides Star Wars characters, too. Don't get me wrong though...I was born in 77' when the 1st was released. I'm a Star Wars nut myself. It's just good to broaden the old horizons. I'm curious to see what your other influences and interests are. That Vader does rock. Vader's the man.

Here are my last livedrawings. After this I'm away for 3-4 weeks for my summer holidays.
I'll try to draw as much as possible and then I'll post my holiday-sketchbook here.

first thing... with your life drawings try not to concentrate so mcuh on getting an outline down. try to think of the form. rathrer than as somehting being contained within lines. try to use line to go around the body froms. people are not 2 dimensional, and outline only shows the 2 dimensions. try to use line to show what is coming forward, what is receding. also when you use line try to vary it up a bit , your line tends to stay around the smae wieght. heavier and lighter line weights not only help make the image less flat, but in general make it more interesting to look at.

    So, guys.
After the big break of a month or more I decided that I have to draw more than I do at the moment. In the future I am going to try to post at least 7 pictures a week. I'm not sure if I can post every day but if not I can post all 7 pics at the weekend.

So, here are the pictures I drew and painted in my hollidays:

I like the buildings the most from your last posts. Looks pretty steady and well placed. Good luck with the studies, they'll help you improving sooner or later.
