Phat chance that they would release another mmorpg when WoW is at its peak, I think they'll grind some cash from the current for another 5 or 6 years before releasing another.
I bet it will be SC2 with an extensive singleplayer campaign and some new online features that all other companies will copy once its released :D

wow finally, i can't wait for this new starcraft game.
warcraft sucks and always did.
honeslty, blizzard spent way too much time on warcraft, diablo and starcraft games are the only ones i actually cared about. besides starcraft was the only good RTS compared to so many other sci-fi RTS games. but i'll admit that homeworld was damn interesting, also supreme commander is not bad, impressive, but sometimes it feels like there's way too much micro-management and a steep learning curve.

Every single korean would die due to starvation.
But, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make...

The one thing I really, really admire about Blizzard is the spin.
So many politicians would kill to have that sort of expertise on their side.
I think SC2 is approaching, maybe not at the next announcement, but at least before the end of the year, because we're hearing about it and people are talking about a possible 4th race, etc. People wouldn't be talking about it if Blizzard weren't leaking it.
When I become el Presidente del Muno those guys are going on my propaganda staff.

actually, i'm very annoyed by MMOs, they're all the same thing but with different settings. seriously, it's become something that you can't make something new out of and everyone is just cranking out the same game that they say looks better or has "revolutionary" gameplay. it's all the same point and click-sit on your ass, watch and hope your character is powerful enough.

1. Me, Warcraft 2 and 3 are still great games, and WoW has had some faults with lore and gameplay, but its still great to see some locations and events from previous games come to life. When it comes down to it, its a fan based game. :/
2. "it's all the same point and click-sit on your ass, watch and hope your character is powerful enough." - you've spent no time playing the game. Spend some time with PVP and raiding and we'll see how much point and click and sitting on your ass youll be doing. The pointing and clicking is to get your character and your playing skills to a point where youll understand the endgame content.
But anyway, I think it would be awesome if Starcraft 2 took some elements from a game caled savage that came out awhile ago, where there were a few people playing in RTS mode as commanders, and the other players were in 3rd or 1st person perspective acting as the units in the ground and air battles. Personally, I think that kind of gameplay would be amazing for SC@.

That would be awesome ... maybe they're not far off. id Software decided to go with a whole new IP after DOOM3, Blizzard should be getting the memo soon. That said, apart from WarCraft I'm not sick of their current intellectual properties like I'm sick of id's IPs, and I wouldn't mind a return to either StarCraft or Diablo, provided they're NOT MMOs.
Still, something new and fresh would be wonderful.

Ever since warcraft 3 blizzard titles don't make me excited. Heck, the only reason I liked Starcraft that much was making custom maps, and the setting. The gameplay was pretty much "make as many colourful little units as you can before you get annihilated" unless it was one of those dreadful "you only have so many units, so use them wisely sucker" levels :(

After playing Supreme Commander I realised what a huge part physics could play strategy games. It really changes the way you approach games and battles. While SC is as close perfect as anyone could want, I think it would be great to have a sequel where strategy plays a larger part. Sorry to say this, but in SC things like flanking, pocketing and other military maneuvers didn't count for shit. It would be cool to see more strategy and less hording and rock-paper-scissors tactics.
That in combination the excellent universe they have could make for a great RTS methinks.

Hey, not to burst anyone's bubble, but SC is far from the best RTS.
Try Total Annihilation. This game was far superior in terms of strategic gaming (which is what the whole thing is about).
Don't get me wrong, I love SC, but compared to TA, it is really restrictive in terms of what actions you can do in game.
TA's downfalls were that it was created by a small company at the time, who were also too stupid to realize the great online capabilities of the game.
SC was one of the first good RTS game to support massive online play, hence it's popularity.[/rant]

I'd say TA was the best 'arcade' style strategy game. To me the best is the Total War series, particularly Rome (since I can't run medieval, and since it's the same basic game) Nothing compares to holding off and then eventually routing a superior force through tactics alone :)

I dunno, what always bothered me (although I still enjoyed the shit out of em) about Starcraft, Warcraft, and other early RTSs is how individually based it was. Getting troops anywhere always turned into a big pile of crap, there were no squads, and it was fairly difficult to use any kind of tactics other than "select large group of powerful units and send into battle" Now if they took some of the improvements that have been made to the genre in games like Dawn of War, and Company of Heros and applied them to the Starcraft franchise than I think it cloud be a really awesome game.
As for a Diablo MMO, that just seems silly for one company to have 2 fantasy based MMOs, it would end up being a satanic Wow. A Starcraft MMO would be interesting, but at the same time, I think unlikely as there just isn't the variety of races and roles other than "Guy that shoots stuff" plus alot of the game involved tanks and other vehicles that just don't seem to fit into an MMO Even with another race, thats only 4...compared to WoWs 8. My bet is on a completely new IP.

Ya for some reason, I also have a feeling its going to be starcraft related.
I still don't know the status on ghost, whether or not its still in production or canceled.
But if Ghost really was canceled, Im sure Blizz will be going back their future/sci-fi routes.
They've already spent too much time with WoW, so In my honest opinion
I can clearly see them getting back into the starcraft universe for that little breeze of fresh air.

Although Id hate seeing it, Diablo would be suited better for an MMO in comparison to Starcraft. But then again, look at what blizz did to warcraft. Started as a strategy game, now its an MMO. Sooner or later I'm pretty sure their money hunger will end up converting all the companies past games in this direction. I wont buy any of them, thats for sure...

Blizzard could put out a brick, and everyone would prais it becuase they have been waiting over 10 years for it.
But they don't.
Each of their titles in the past 12-13 years have been critically acclaimed and bestsellers. Just because they can put a brick out and get away with it doesn't mean they will or do. Plus, extending a release date to generate hype is dumb, people get tired and uninterested. I don't think there's any reason to extend the RD other than having to put more work into the title or waiting for christmas.
Finally:
The company has a history of largely overshooting release dates to ensure the quality of their games.[2] - Wikipedia
BOOM!: Yeah but they were able to WOW because Warcraft 3 already put a strong emphasis on role playing and character building. SC doesn't have that yet, it's pure old school strategy. Making the leap from that to MMO feels pretty dumb.

Oh it's not that I'm contesting. I think it would actually be fun to play with a hydralisk or a lurker. My issue is the universe and the world. Warcraft was ready because already in WC3 the world had become more vibrant, with creeps and questing established. Starcraft won't have a median, it needs to make the transition instantly, and that means that when SC2 does come out, it'll probably be an upgraded WC3. They'll have two IP's heading in exactly the same direction, and I somehow think they'll lose a lot of market by forfeiting the RTS genre.
just my 2c, hope that makes sense.
