Hi Guys,

A quick question,

When painting with Artist oils, when u pull paint in from the outside edge of the canvas it mixes with black as if there is a surrounding border of black paint that i cant see.

fg and bg colors arent black so I dont know where this is coming from.

Any ideas?

have I missed something obvious?

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Hi Gaius,

Using WinXP Home SP2 and both Painter IX.5 and Painter X, I can't reproduce your results.

I tested all brush variants in the Artists' Oils category, both on the white Canvas and on a Default Layer.

Gaius,

Can you try it again with one particular Artists' Oils variant?

Painting on a white Canvas,
Then painting on a Default Layer with both the Preserve Transparency box and the Pick Up Underlying Color box unchecked,
And with no selection active.

Tell me the name of the Artists' Oils variant you used, then I'll try it again using the same Artist's Oils variant and the same setup and we'll have an exact comparison.

Ok here is some screen shots of the problem I outlined above.

It doesnt happen while painting on the canvas, but does happen while painting on a default layer. both the Preserve Transparency box and the Pick Up Underlying Color box are unchecked.

Here u can see the black paint being pulled into the layer when no black or dark color paint is selected.

And here is a screenshot of the layers palette and color wheel.

Its not a major problem, but it crops up from time to time and is annoying.

Thanks for your help.
:o)

Painter is a fantastic program, I use it 80% of time and photoshop the rest. The two programs working together are a amazing combination.

Hi Gaius,

Here's the result when I tried to duplicate your problem in Painter X:

Here's the result in Painter IX.5:

I can't, at the moment, think of any other ways to try and duplicate the problem using the conditions you describe.

However, in Painter X I was able to drag black into the stroke by painting on a Default Layer with the Pick Up Underlying Color box checked:

I wonder if the checkmark isn't displayed in your Painter version, so you can't tell if it's enabled or not enabled? You might try testing that to make sure.

That's all I can think of for now, other than writing to the Corel Painter Development team at:
