The year is 1875. After the Civil War ended, the Union marksman, tracker and scout was out of a job. The only suitable job left for men in Stanton's position was bountyhunting... after all, hunting men is what he does best. Armed with two Army issue Colt 45 Peacemakers, and an 1873 Winchester Deluxe Lever Action Short Rifle, James Stanton hunts down the baddest of the bad. The lowest, most dangerous scum of the earth that prey on helpless caravans, killing the men then raping and selling the women for ammunition and cheap whiskey. Stanton has no tollerance for this kind of lifestyle, having lost his wife and daughter to simillar brigands. Now, after 5 years, he has made a name for himself as the fastest gunslinger from Missouri to the Rio Grande. Outlaws beware! Stanton aims to send them to meet their maker via the bullet train express!!
Yeah, that's my topic. Not sure if I'll have to time to do anything anytime soon, but hopefully people have fun with it. Peace!!

Awesome! I'm in!
WIP #1 - He will be standing on a rock kinda on a cliff, well at least that is my vision of what he will be doing.
WIP #2 1/14/07 - Still working on it, just blocking in colors at this point. Trying to meet the deadline. I am still learning to paint with PS so I can't say that I have a process down yet. For example I know of the color and multiply layers but I do not yet know how best to use them. If anyone has any insight into those layer settings it would be helpful. I do these weeklies so that I can learn, and I learn a lot by looking at you guy's works. Thanks.
1/15/07 - Well I will finish this one, but I couldn't make the CHOW deadline. Still a good learning experience though. There are some great entries for this CHOW.

I'll buy that for a dollar!
Rough beginnings (I know the hat is... wrong).
January 10th, 2007, 06:01 PM
I started sketching some stuff, haven't done this since my first one like last march. Tried a couple times but never even got finished but hopefully i'll be able to pull this one off. I have been checking out the posts from time to time though....
here you go, i'm probably gonna go with the last one ....my final will most likely be just a ink drawing
i'm gonna attempt to incoporate the actual jacket from an officers uniform, sorta give him a tie to the past he can't let it go, Sense of justice all that crap..lol...
i'm on a widescreen now so i'm not sure if this is too small to view though let me know if it should be a larger file ect....

update, where do i go from here, does it seem that i am doing the right thing?

Whipcord thin James Stanton strolls in to town. Wearing parts of his old uniform (faded blue jacket and a couple of buckles) and still wearing his medal of honor he is quite the character. Wearing one holster tied down and one hanging loosely on his hip,he certainly looks like a gunslinger. Stanton doesnt do hats, he likes wicked men to see the cold hatred in his eyes before he takes 'em out. Law abidin' God fearin' citizens have nuthin to worry about, but the lawless and vice ridden desperados better turn their guns on themselves rather than risk Stantons fury .
wished I had some more time, but I am taking the missus out on the town tomorrow...

Here is a quick WIP
January 12th, 2007, 03:35 AM
So far, Mr-Nick has my vote.
That pose totally captures the manga-cowboy feel I liked from Gazelle of Trigun.
Kudos. Hope to churn out something soon myself.
Edit: Updated my Final.
January 12th, 2007, 04:08 AM
great stuff so far

January 12th, 2007, 11:42 AM
hey guys, some pencil sketches from this morning - nothing solid so i popped in some highlights so you can see whats going on. i'll do a tighter wip tonight when i get back from work...i hope...but give me any reason to draw a mustache and i'm there!
put up another pencil sketch but gaad! lost the original feeling and those hips are reaaaaaallllly off so back to the drawing boards. :shame:
January 13th, 2007, 12:04 AM
Ah...mine's just a bit late...some good painting practice...I have so much to learn. Feel like I lost something from my original character design by trying to make it all dramatic. Meh. Rushed, hence the sloppy. Next time I'll start earlier!
Wow...you guys are good.
January 13th, 2007, 08:38 AM
Noooooo! I saw this entirely too late! Deadlines tommorrow! Noooooooo!
Well, heres a WIP... hopefully I can finish it in time D:
January 13th, 2007, 11:01 AM
What a topic. I've been doing a whole series of western legends. Check it out here:
And now to James. This is how i see him. Let me know what You think, guys.

Ok.. here is the final pic of James Stanton.
Great work everybody and good luck all!
January 14th, 2007, 01:04 AM
Hi Folks. Here's my share for this topic.
~I thought I'd make him old and kinda push the idea that he's obsessed. He served in the civil war, probably earned a couple of medals there and is now in retirement with enough money from the army to keep him fat and happy for life... But he still chooses to do the job. Simple love for the work, or vengeful obsession? The latter is more interesting. And it's a good reason to put some bloody textures behind him :P
January 14th, 2007, 04:47 AM
Hey everyone, don't know If i will be able to finish the sketch or paint but here is my w.i.p.
update of my wip
January 14th, 2007, 03:54 PM
Hmm. Small. But that hides a few sins I suppose... :nohope:
January 14th, 2007, 10:13 PM
Well, I had some spare time today, so here it is... silly motion blur and all :P
Y'all're lookin' good so far!!
I'll give my thoughts on all of them in the voting thread.
January 14th, 2007, 11:47 PM
Here is mine, first offcial finished CHOW.
I want him to have a ninja type shadow after him because he's supper dupper fast!
Phuzion, that looks great man!
mrgrumble! I wish you whould have finished yours! I think the sketch looked awesome...I think it could have been great. Are you still going to finish it?
January 14th, 2007, 11:55 PM
Weeh, decided to enter this thing at the last minute. I almost didn't make it.
Hope you like it.
January 15th, 2007, 06:11 AM
and a few roughs:
I wanted to play around with the idea of a cowboy that was a really shnazzy dresser, like he doesn't like to get dirty when he does his "work."
Fedezz, I really enjoy yours, the colors work really well together and that hat is just fun.

January 15th, 2007, 12:54 PM
fair enough if it not allowed in as its a bit late but here is my entry! good topic phuzion!
January 15th, 2007, 01:12 PM
January 15th, 2007, 01:46 PM
Should I just list them off...?:
~mrgrumble (if he wants to...)
~devilmonkey (if he considers it finished..?)
~trevor (if he wants to)
I know a couple were late, but I'd rather fill out the numbers than play the deadline game... so that's the list of people I would put in the poll... I won't put mine in cause I'd feel silly actually entering in my own topic :P
Anywho, good luck all!
Glad y'all enjoyed the topic, I had fun comin' up with it and watching the work come in!!
January 15th, 2007, 05:47 PM
fedezz: Sorry! You can play too... for some reason your image didn't come up on my computer... I dunno why... you're in!!
January 17th, 2007, 05:32 AM
It's a lovely round - thank you Phuzion.
January 17th, 2007, 08:50 AM
cakeypig: Why is his face purple? Nice picture though - just can't warm up to the crazy skin color.
Ashab Excellent pose and attitude!!! Had you rendered him just a little[I] more, I would have given you my vote!
D-Baker Also very cool pose. But yours also lacks detail.
B-Nine Nice picture - BUT, arms are way too long and his hands, guns and feet are enormous...
It came down to ahbeejieh, Phuzion and fedezz. Man, tough one. I just decided, after looking at all three again - fedezz gets my vote! That background is so goofy and makes me smile (since it's not ment to be real carnage - it's just silly - I hope it's alright for me to enjoy this kind of black humor). Phuzion though came [I]ultra-close to getting my vote - excellent clear execution!
January 17th, 2007, 09:58 PM
mrgrumble if only you'd finished...really liked yours. Especially those long and spindly barrels on the 45s...great look for them.
I give my vote to cakeypigdog. Neat character.
Cool topic, Phuzion.
January 18th, 2007, 03:32 AM
Voted for Phuzion. Loved the pose. I wanna comment on the others... But I'm too freegin lazy. Got shit to do also.
Hope I got time to participate in the new topic.
January 18th, 2007, 04:25 AM

fedezz: your image is presented exceptionally well
while it may not be the best design i love the overall pic due to the nice design elements and color scheme
phuzion: just a damn good pic
great sense of yehaw action great line weight and nice drapery
and trevor: wtf dude how the hell did that unfinished cap get to poll?
try to finish something for once you lazy halfwit bastard! hahhaha
January 22nd, 2007, 08:33 AM
Voted for Mr Nick. May not be as finished as some of the others, but I just loved the brooding violence you feel emanating from it.
January 22nd, 2007, 10:15 AM
Went with Mr.Grumble...would love to see it finished. Like your style...
wish I had more time
*bangs head on desk*
January 25th, 2007, 01:39 PM
Ha ha! Now wait a minute, I said I wasn't going to be in the list of entries, remember? Cause I felt weird actually entering my own challenge for some reason, but I still wanted to do a character. So I think Fedezz wins this one, cause well, his image kicks great ass.
Nicely done overall people! Glad you dug the topic.
