painter and the unexperienced

im pretty new to using painter, as in i just downloaded the 9.5 version trial today. my problem with it is that when i try to use the pencil tool, it doesnt look anything like a pencil. the other problem is is it possible to use a mouse while using such programs or is this something that i absolutely need a wacom tablet for, and if so where can i get one extremely cheap? im really knew to the digital part of art, and i confess i really suck at drawing and sculpting, but i enjoy both so i would like to get better. thanks for any help you can give me.

You will need a tablet to use Painter effectively.
