Hey guys,

I had a chance to mold the horns on this guy a few days ago, so was abel to finish my demon up.
the horns are Slushed resin, backed with riged foam.
the Skin is Platsil, backed with foam.
its painted with Caulcking and oil paints.
comments and critiques welcome.

OMG! that is truly amazing, the skin texture, wrinkles and colours are brilliant, congratulations! can you explain the process of slush resin with foam? And forgive me what is Caulcking? Congratulations for finally finishing your piece and posting it up for us to see. :)

Jaw dislocatingly superb! Without the horns I would have believed it was a real person. No critiques! Only awe.

awesome work, paint is amazing, made with an airbrush?
Details are great
The only thing is the place where horns go, the skin part seems to be not tied enough

Without this little detail, all the character is great, looking like an old demon
bravo

Wow, I love it. I almost passed it by because it didn't have a tumbnail. This is some great work you have produced here.

I would be great to see a quick "how to" for this one. I love the skin textures and paint job.

Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

thanks guys.

yeah i figured alot of people would pass it buy since there is no thumbnail....how do you put one in?

Caulcking is what is around your shower, and inetween some tile's etc...
its a plumbers silicone paste basdically.
you can get it clear, and then thin it out with naptha./...so its like water...and then tint it with oil paints.
this is how you can paint silicone, as it is made of silicone it will bond.

yes, the skin was painted with an airbrush alot....id say about 80%, the rest is hand painted.

about the honrs, Thats the way ive always thought the transition would look if people had honrs.....if it was not a noticbel "ring" of flesh around the horn I think it would look like the skin grew right over the horns....rather then the horns growing out of the flesh.
but its purley an opinion.

thanks again,

excellently done!!!
great life-likeness! great expression on his old face!
watery eyes... absolutely brilliant.
i must agree, though, with mr. brown about the horn/skalp setting.
i thought that the part(s) where horns come out of a head ought to look more like the area where the fingernails come out of the tips of our fingers.
Fingernails, in the end, are, very much like horns, made of sort of 'condensed' hair. if you know what i mean.
really just a thought though...

apart from that little nag - stunning!

cheers

man I can't think how it is possible to make sculpture like that
On some pictures you can see skin flakes like old people have sometimes because their skin is dry. And the horns look like they are real. I like the #3 photo.

Great job on the skin! The painting on the skin is really amazing as well as the detail of the model its self. Nice work.

My only suggestion( though coming from a 2d animator and not a sculptor) is the merge between skin and horn. Mainly the hard shadow between skin and horn seems to need adjusting.

Though, this may not be so noticeable under different or intended lighting as you know.

Great work!

I'm now off to smash all my tools up and take up bread making. That is just astounding... If I had a hat I would take it off too...

so...this is going into spectrum then right? damn you and your skills. besides just the plain astounding nature of this piece, i especially like the color/texture of the skin, like i can just feel the skin sagging lower every second. so what's next? my eyes want more MORE MORE!!

Sorry probably being dim but what is Platsil?

VVDFX
December 23rd, 2006, 08:20 PM
not dumb at all, i acutally shouldnt have said platsil, as thats very confuseing...I'm just used to calling this particular silicone by its brand name, Platsil gel10.

Platsil is basically an abreviation for platinum Silicone.
there are 2 types of silicone, platinum based and Tin based.
platinum is a bit higher grade, medical grade silicone that will last longer.
platinums are also a bit more tricky to work with because they can contaminate very easily through sulpher, latex, etc....

the system i use, platsil gel 10, Availabel throughh polyteck, can produce some of the most flesh like results i have ever seen with any other silicones.

Great stuff. I am most impressed. I see you've done some zBrush stuff as well. Did you ever get a 3D piece to the level of the old demon?
I'd be most curious to know how do you get that realistic skin. Like what is your thought process behind it?

Awesome stuff. Definitely the best sculpture I have seen so far.

thank you.

my Zbrush work is rough stuff that is purley as a design tool for me, all of the Z work was in my first 4 or 5 months of haveing the product...and I havent used it much since. its a whole diffrent world the sculpting in real life, and there are alot of technical things that take a while to learn...ive only learned the very basics, theres soooo much more to learn.
so i havent scratched the suphice of what can be done of course, so I cant achive the same results as i do in real world sculpture work.
but like i said, its a great design tool, when I need to produce a character in real world, I will sometimes do various designs in the CG world to get an idea of what i want to do and show who ever I am doing the character for what i have in mind...they will give input and the characters will go through diffrent stages extreemly quicly and easily this way. then when its finilized I can start with real clay and get the end look down useing my designs as refrence.
eventially id like to be abel to get my CG skills up though, get some realistic results useing it.
