Official Last Man Standing 2 Website and Match Index (http://lastmanstanding.codytilson.com)

You wanted another Last Man Standing Thunderdome. You wanted it bigger, better, stinkier, and nastier than the first (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47680). Well, Sallies, I think it's safe to say you got it.

271 initial contenders over 4 rounds of randomly paired mayhem. 396 new pieces of artwork. 1 winner. And not one 1-on-1 battle.

The Round Breakdown:

Round I: 271 initial contenders in 3 (one 4) man battles
Round II: 90 contenders in 3 man battles
Round III: 30 contenders in 6 man battles
Final Round IV: 5 contenders, one winner.

Topic:
The Escape
You'd better get some action in this piece because you know your opponent will if you don't. I don't care if you main subjects are characters, vehicles, robots or hermaphrodites, just tell us a story we won't forget.

Some of the top industry talent this fine forum has to offer will be judging each round and deciding who advance to the next round. The voting will be a point system; 3 points for 1st place, 2 for 2nd, and 1 for 3rd.

Judges for Round One:

Aleksi (http://www.aneyeoni.com/)
DSIllustration (http://www.dandossantos.com/)
Imp Head (http://www.imphead.com/)
Irene Gallo (http://igallo.blogspot.com/)
Living Rope (http://livingrope.free.fr/)

Important note about the thread layout:
There is one match in every post. The entries correspond as follows:

User1 vs User2 vs User3

Image1 is User1
Image2 is User2
Image3 is User3

Users listed in White have PUSSED OUT.

On to matches 1-30 of Round 2. Enjoy.

Yay! I knew my impatience would pay off! Thanks Cody.

Candy for my eyes (Entries I thought stood out)

Matt Dixon
Jason Manley
Jason Chan (who would have thought?)
Summer Pudding
Vyle
Yumiko
Iconophobian
Dave Palumbo (just five him the trophy already)
Coro (my favorite of this round - glad screw arms is back :) )
Shelly Wan
Whoami
Viag
0Kelvin
Poise
Nicolas
Dutton
M@

Basically, all those who are good, stayed good, and kicked ass this round. As expected. No surprises.

To my competitiors Mythmaker and Badger, great paintings, it will be a crap-shoot to see who comes out on top of this one.

If I make it to the third round, ... (really BIG if),... I'll really have to up the level of skills. Damn you are all so good, and all deserve to advance.

Lots on genetalia this round too... no possible way to make a LMS better then lots of genetalia.

Ok, time for bed.

Great job Cotron and Ninja_ASSN! All three of us put up a good fight!

I'll write some more comprehesive comments on the pieces tomorrow. It's a lot easier commenting on 30 matches than 90.

Had to create a temporary (I hope) username just to be able to chime in and say WOW, there are some really stellar pieces this time around. Coro, the color and temperature shifts in the "Literal" half of your piece is <3 <3. Had to right click save that and Dave's entry. Pity to pit you two against each other so early on! Love Shelly's piece, of course. Has that old school Dean Cornwell/Frank Brangwyn-juicy-paintstroke look on rendering the human form. So many other great pieces! Icono, IncredibleAndy, ALL of Match 11 and 21, Loomer, Sinix (such a big fan of your work), redehlert, Vyle and Whoami.... Cheers you guys!

oh...my..... god.....
i have just seen so many boys turn into men (AKA: the progression of 1000yrs in a heart beat) from so many of you
images i did not expect from some of you
first and foremost..helzon
my boy you have been working your ass off and it shows...brilliantly
mr manly: this is not ass kiss, that is one of the most beautifull pics i have seen in a looong time and a great painted translation (value mainly) of a metallic print ( not that one was involved but first thing i thought)
el coro: you are still in my eyes a "legendary hero" not just a professional
proteus: stark disturbing and i hope the onlooking trooper made his escape at that moment
redehlert: you alreaddy know what i think you bastard hope you make it to san fran ill try to convince nathan next week when im in NJ
mike corrriero: lovely as always, and this time not as sinister hope we can chill whn i get to jersey, wont make it to AOL but i will be in NY that day, drinks on me
m@: very poitical very nice
posh: i hate you for being so good will you teach me? .....oh wait i mean i LOVE you for being so good
strych: love the concept love the execution
mr visions: so few and far between i see color from you and i wish it was more frequent!
mr chan: (wait your alot younger than me arent you? hahahaha)
amazing work very different from your normal work

and on top of all these familiar names i see very unfamiliar ones destroying all that is lame with amazing work i have been on here a while and regret never seeing many of you because you blew me away!
i just hope that this spirit of competition will hold un till the next round AND next lms
its made many of you better
(oh and i would love to know WHEN the next lms is...i always seem to be the last to know hahahah)
GREAT work everybody, very seriously

fuck, all are nice! I was expecting a bit more from alot of people though. That includes Jason Chan... and the fact that both of his competitors "Pussed out", well that gets a rolleyes from me. Coro kicked ass with his nice piece. Kenji. Matt Dixon, Dave Palumbo, Sinix, Dougbot, Whoami, Dutton all got my attention pretty quickly... and my TD partners Helzon & Johanson got some serious shit going on! Excellent work by them both. Overall, round 2 really made an impression on me... good luck to all of you!

Hey Kickassasaurs,

You guys bloew me away this round, no shit. Sorry about the wait, but we wanted to add a central graphic to the new conceptart.org home page (which was the big new feature) promoting the LMSTD. I'm pumped to have the dome promoted so prominently... thanks Manley and Cotron for the opportunity. Also, thanks to Chanman for letting me use one of his kickass entries from the first dome in my design, you rock.

I was thinking about making an extra incentive to each round of the dome by using one of your entries in the design promoting each round. Of course, I'd pick whichever piece caught my eye to carry the design, but I think it'd be cool to have your image promoting the current round of the contest right? Of course it would, goddamnit.

Check out the home page, it looks pretty damn cool right now. :)

Imp Head will be joining the magnificent Irene Gallo, devious Dan DSIllustration, and Lucious Living Rope as our panel of judges. Waiting on one response from a particular judge I've always wanted to hav eon the panel, and then the judging will be officially underway. It's a fine panel of judges for such great work and tough decisions, they'll do a damn fine job.

And I forgot to say this before, but damn nice showing Posh and SBACHAN! Thanks for the battle and inevitable ejection from my own dome. :)

I even come back to this thread over and over, and I've looked at these entries for a week solid now putting this together. Awesome.

Wow, the work this round was incredible. Gotta say Coro's 'literal' piece is probably my fav. Seeing my piece next to all the others made me really wish I had spent more time on it, it was a busy couple of months though.

Red and Sham really handed my ass to me, I bow before you both.

Great work by all!

There are so many standouts here. The overall quality is humbling, and yet inspiring. Some of my favorites:

poshSpice, nicolas, MainLoop, bumskee, Mr.Blonde, kian, MikeCorreiro (freakin gorgeous colors), Tyranx (something about that sharp-edged graphic style just screams at me), ninja_ASSN, Giovanni (wow), viag, JasonChan (big surprise), on and on and on... Seriously, I'd be listing half the people in the post.

How about some tutorials? :)

Absolutely amazing. Here's to anticipating the next round!

Wow again, seeing these always get me pumped, would have loved to feel this much inspiration last week. Really enjoying these, I'd say some of my favorites are:

Dutton- tells a great story, nicely executed.
Nicolas- possibly my favorite of all.. I just love where your art is going, the cartoon adds a great touch, this is something I'd hang on my wall.
RasselTassel- another top one.. beautiful action with great colors
shellywan- brilliant color use, great figures, great all around
joshuathejames- one of my favorite things I've seen from you, love this
Dave v. Coro- yea... good luck with that judges..blown away by both
Iconophobia- lovely pallette, lovely scene
Vyle- you have too much fun
Joiton- most stylish of all!
Rusty- lol, summer is a master of atmosphere and lighting effects, but I'd have to give you this match.. great characters

Anyway, I wanna go draw now!

Hello, just wanted to write some comments because I was very happy and inspired looking at all the creativity from so many people at once. So thanks you, and if you don't mind that's what I feel looking at your images, maybe it will be interesting for you to know. If not just, skip them, no big loss for you. Wrote only because I would appreciate to hear people opinion about my work always, not for any other reason.

Proteus I was thinking what happened in this picture. It doesn't seem to me it was a prepared action. Two guys up the hill don't have any weapons with them and look like caught suddenly, off guards. I would say a horrible accident happened, one of the rocket suddenly escaped, something went wrong and they stroked one of their own man. The expedition started very badly already, badly planned or executed, probably more disaster to follow.
I like how beautiful, sunny, shining l and opposite from terrible event in the mood the nature, the landscape looks. So the sudden disaster looks even more startling. No one would 've thought.
As an funny observation, I don't know any rocket nowadays which can do trajectory like this, a circle, must be some weapon of future.

m@ Your choice of colors didn't say to me personally much, seems pretty random to me. But composition, body language and face expressions gave my some information. Only one child from the line of these zombie-alike has a human expression on this face, he is the only one who stands out from the crowd, the only one who has his own opinion about life happening around him. His thoughts are somewhere else, in better place, so he is judging the world he lives in, maybe passively so, but he does. So he is the last human, the other are little military robots. Wish you told more about him, where his mind escapes to, looks like his dreams are still pretty close to reality, but brighter.

poshspice I interpret your image like the one of the crusade knights need to kill his angel in order to accomplish his goals, kill his conscience or compassion. Kind of forget his disgust to murder in order to make the deed.
It was interesting to see your interpretation of the holy wars. You don't approve as I see it. Strange to see the angel being passive or even helping the missioner to kill his doubts ( her hand in the sword, apparently not stopping). Interesting that you see his angel like this, a seductive woman. I thought they were ascetic puritans, their angel was a beautiful modest diva, unapproachable ideal vision.
Figure of the warrior is so great.

strych9ine Hmm, I see, men and women, two parallel worlds, two opposites, coexisting, even sharing a lot but never connecting at total. Sad, I don't want to believe in this, but it is very popular opinion from Bible times, I guess.
Colors are beautiful, and very tasteful, here, second time you hear that about your art, but I always thought that. These grey, blue and warm brown/ orange are pleasure to look on their own. I like the composition too. and contrast of long smooth brushstrokes with fluffiness of texture.

SBACHAN Man, like she couldn't do it guietly, this drama queen. Egotistical young lady, she wants her escape to be noticeable and memorable, she wants attention from those who she is leaving.
The other interpretation is possible though. she doesn't look at the results of her doing, she wanted it to be done, destroyed. It might be she just hates this house, and place and people in there.
Technically the head is a bit too small comparing to the foreshortening of the arms, looks a bit strange. Wish you use the colors to talk through them too. Those look not very expressive to me. I like the stortytelling though, thought body language.

DavidSmit Disaster is happening already, just one girl is still interested in what will happen next, the other already got the message. Gruesome mood in the picture. Intriguing too, because you didn't show what makes this city to fall.

Mr. Visions This is image with a sound. I think you wanted the strict, classical organ music to play in our mind. Because that's how you see the last moment when human soul escapes mortal body shell and streams into narrow tunnel with light on the other end. Into Unknown. No vanity, no fear, no pain, just a final connection with universe. The kind of music is a reminder to us all about the real priorities, IMO.

robinchyo I don't know why but I feel a sympathy and excitement looking at the escape. And I expect a lot of mess from this eloping killer machine. But it is just so much energy, and speed and impulse and apparent euphoria from success in the colors and figure and composition, so I feel like I'm participating in this. I like how you did it and the whole idea very much. Very good story telling in my opinion.

yAdam, I looked with interest at your painting, I don't remember seeing an image with such unusual perspective, I admit I didn't see it right away, you need to help a viewer with warmer/ cooler colors a bit to see the deepness of the abyss. I didn't see the small figure firing at creature right away too, and it is this figure that put everything on the proper view. But after I saw it I liked the effect, very cool and kudos to you for trying this very complex perspective. Man hanging on the rope could be a bigger size and closer to us and maybe the angle is not right.
Overall I think it is a very interesting picture and mood is great, an adventure, scary one.

Dutton Mike, I think those thunderdomes have a therapeutic effect for you, you are pouring out your worst fears :). Very funny and I love the lighthearted young individual. Did the dirty deed (painted a truthful portrait, ahahaha) and I like how he took the outcome, in stride, like a true philosopher, without regrets :). Like his light legs in tennis shoes and the whole young, weightless body, gives so much personality to him. He is OK with any outcome, he didn't expect much anyways and he knew that his fast legs will save him one more time :). Charming young man and charming image, I saved it. Very witty.
And I like the figure of rigid high society old hen, hahaha, she's got used to thank her artist herself, right away, without delay. Strong and straight forward personality. :). Love the composition, colors and perspective, Wonderful :). Striking characters, very opposite to each other. Security on one side and young irresponsibility on the other. They are impossible to like each other.
Best wished to you and Alex.

Hyver, Boy, oh boy, I love art, it is like a free ticket to see inside of artist brains. I bet this image is collected from personal impressions and fears.

So the ugly night spirits were sitting inside the sweet teddy bear and finally succeeded in torturing a poor child, so he helped them to escape tearing his toy apart. I like face of the goblin and were-bear, I just wish you used more sophisticated shades of green for the magic smoke and the face of the witch and her hand look a bit stiff.
I have Twin Peaks association looking at your image, with BOB residing in most unexpected places and all, you know.

GriNGoLoCo, This young man has tremendous potentials, thinking about women in any circumstances.

Helzon Looks like the unlucky thief. I like very many things in your image, mostly the figure of the thief, the coloring of the figure and strange, funny, unusual, witty badger-like creature with furry tummy. It is irresistible. Love it so much. I think it deserve a separate painting and many of them, actually.
Like how you painted gems and lighting from them. But I think the colors of the main characters clashes with temperature and shades of the the whole image. It looks strange, not well matched to each other in my opinion.

Johanson Very good anatomy and action in your image and suspense. I think it will be very interesting change of roles next moment between two character.

nicolas Beautiful colors and effects in your image. I just have an impression that the train stopped suddenly ( one side of it is in clear view, there are not traction from speed or smokes on the side) and the hero is in confusion how to act. He has a chance though, the opposite side looks very slow to move or exhausted..,
Colors are subtle, and foggy, suggest confusion in the mind of the character for me.

hurricane, ahahah, very good day for the ugly guys. They caught a big fish. Why did you hide her face, you cruel buddy. Don't you know we all want to see and judge the appearance whenever any girl involved in the story. Looks like a fine female though, from her choice of the shoes.

I like the foggy forest in the picture and the perspective, although it is a bit strange looking. But I think it is because very sharp outlines on the figures and faces of the foreground characters. It is strange for me to see sharp highlights on them, when I see and feel this dense wet air in the early morning forest. The lighting should be soft, very soft and fog should dissolve everything in it.
Wonderful energy and speed and humor in you image.

Have to go. I want to write to all contestants though, a bit later, very grateful for the wonderful show.

I'm speakless, really I can't think of what to say that will do any of you justice.
I laughed, I cryed, I got super envious, pissed, depressed, I fell inlove, and then I fell head over heals. You people are too much sometimes.

The art that stood out to me with concept, storytelling, and technique were the following...

Robin: geez! this is a such a strikingly beautiful peice, I never thought robots could be beautiful, but you made it happen.
Nicolas: I just adore your color scemes, and textures. and haveing the characters at the bottom is always so great. The hero needs to pose and show his manly stature, but the little boy inside is scared to death of that clawed Robot. So great!!
nacho: I love this, I always love the quiet moment with characters, and this really just makes me all sappy inside, poor kid. Lovely execution, I admire the dreamy quality.:)
Shelly: You know I'm going to say the bad first. I want to see this bigger, much bigger. You are so clever, what a story. I really love this peice. I love it because it is so subtle. Not just the fact the bird was set free, but it was not of this man's free will, he is being seduced by these sirens, disguised as ladies. The birds and sirens relateing in myth; they are there to set their own free. Just beautiful story telling Shelly, and wonderful execution. :)
Fellah: Damn!!!!! you my man are so damn good. I loved this sequence, simple but very entertaining. Your imagination is so grand it blow my mind, just great!
ElCoro:You made me laugh then cry the instance I saw the first fire escape painting. At that point I was not looking at your amazeing technique I was in awe by the simple and ridiculous subject matter. It is brillliant, and makes me feel dumb for even thinking that just a fire escape can be so. Then I read 'Literal' and I laughed even harder and cried a little, I'm not jokeing. then I scrolled down and saw an ugly monster woman and a homeless man smoking. My first thought was awe!! SF. Then I read 'Figurative' and my brain took a while to register, and realized again he was smoking, and there was a crazy figure keeping him company. You are Brilliant.

For those I thought did a great job, and also had awesome concepts, and technique: strych9ine, Poshspice, Dutton, Helzon, Bumskee, Mike, Mainloop, Ninjass, Cotron, Stacydia, AmishCommy, Whoami, Doughbot, redehlert, Loomer, JoshuaTheJames, DavePalumbo, Icon, Joiton, Summer Pudding, Romance, rusty, and Jason Chan.

I wish everyone good luck.

Everyone, really, my hat is off to all of you. To take a few picks as "first impression" favourites - Jason Chan ( who gets a by into the next round by default?), Iconophobian, Mat Dixon - these all made me look three times. Almost every piece in the round made me look twice.

1 Proteus - just a powerhouse start to the comp

2 Poshspice - A bit stiff but good rendering and idea

3 DavidSmit - Love the unsurity in the girls expression

4 Robinchyo

5 Dutton

6 Grincoloco - Only one with a comprehendable story but not a great finish

7 Nicolas - Only for the cartoon at the bottom

8 Main Loop & Poise - Tough, I'd say Main Loop cause its cool and poises should have more water (amazing render though)

9 Bumskee & Ghill - Tough round - don't know

10 Mr. Blonde - Pissed myself laughing at this one, that exclamation hahaha, kian also good

11 RasselTassel

12 Cotron - Sah-weet, NINJ_ASSN Too 911, 0kelvin also pretty cool

13 staceydiana - Cool and original

14 Ben Mauro & Giovanni - Too tough , perhaps neither fleshed out enough for me

15 whoami vs viag vs RobRey - Tough round, viag prolly

16 Dougbot

17 Nacho

18 shelly wan - Oh riginality and finish, though I do like gorillagrins

19 ploboyko? - All too messy

20 TheBrave - Very cinematic feel, loomer - kind of dead on right side but really good effort

21 dirty c - Clarity in story, great renders though Fellah and JTJ

22 DavePalumbo - Disappointed with El Coros entry, kinda nothing new here but lots of work. The literal one seems to be a bad pun and the second one too El Coro

23 BDFoster

24 Vyle - should be called battle, Yumiko - LOTR, iolarnula - a bit rough

25 Snarfevs

26 Summer Pudding - Great, One of the best

27 Romance

28 Jason Chan Jason Chan Jason Chan Jason Chan Jason Chan

29 Jason Manley - The sea, the great unconscious, now thats where I escape. Matt Dixon should be called the battle, Bowlin's kinda makes no sense to me

30 Robot - Now this is really cool, should fully render it though, magicgoo - Escape?

KENJI! yours is friggin' sweet. I really like the atmosphere it creates-- like I was telling you in person. you can get a feel for the event that's going on. i can almost feel his fear with the dark surrounding him, and the anger in the guy with chainsaw with all the red surrounding him.

my favorite! not saying that just because I know you :P

really the only thing i don't like is the sort of split composition.

eric yours is sweet too.

EDIT: now that I think about it more, having that smaller area of red on the right grabs your focus after looking at the left side and directs you to the second character-- so maybe it's just badass all together.

Great job all around guys. Dang, great job as well Dave. Those textures and colors are killin' me. Guess we'll see what happens, but, haha, I know when I'm defeated. If so, good luck in the next round. Ones I responded to where Coro's dynamic duo and Nic, who's presentation and overall execution is straight up delicious. Wish everyone the best, and thanks for the comment, sve, glad you got all that from my piece, it meant alot. I can honestly say those where some of my feelings when doing tthis piece actually. Thanks trev' for callin' me out, too, a well deserved kick in the pants when it comes to color. I felt that for this piece the monochromatic approach fit with the rorshack and songsheet, which where heart to the concept. The concept I was hoping to make this piece shine through, but I'm sure there where a thousand ways to approach it in a more effective way. Now I'm gonna go back and draw. Art books are callin' my name -

EDIT: Not sure if people could tell, but there are subwoofers on my character's ears. That was a tid bit that got lost (along with some details in the face) because the image posted a bit smaller than I expected - V

Thanks to all who mentioned me in their favs. :) It's an honor to even be competing with some of the guys in this Dome, so standing out in any way is just icing on the cake. Sve, I loved your description of my piece. ;)
Hyver, best of luck to you! Chaosrocks said it best about your piece; it's definitely got a great creepy edge to it. Wish it was a full three man round, but ah well, gives you and me a little room to breathe, eh?

And boo on Jason Chan's default win (but congrats on another nicely executed piece). When Cody announced the theme, he should have specified that the competitors themselves were not supposed to escape.

Hehe! Um...well.... you see her eyebrows? You can tell she's very worried.... and um.... tentacles ... and ...er.

Beautiful work, everyone!! I can't even begin to name favorites. They're all amazing. Each and every one of them is BRILLIANT. I love the ideas more than I liked the ones for LMS1. Everyone got so creative this round.

Awesome! :xpld: :jawdrop:

Holy crap, so much amazing work! Is there an echo in here? Oh wait, that's just me. My hard drive is working overtime saving to my inspiration folder right now.

I have a feeling I'm not making it past this round ;) But I'm glad it's to a piece as nice as Shelly's. Time to get back to drawing, I'm super pumped now.

Wow, very impressive everyone. Poise, Icon: sweet, you ladies rock.
I am quite dissappointed to see so many no-shows (especially the guy that I lost to :er: ) Oh well. At least everyone else came through and really did their best. You guys kick ass.

Sooo many damn killer entries here!

My favs:
Shadoman for content, composition and colors
-awesome work man!

Dave Palumbo for skill.
-awesome render amigo!

Dirty c, you have it twisted. It took mer a while to figure out what was going on with your image, and man I wish I hadn't. I am curios the statement that you were trying to make and how that relates to the topic.

Sinix, your stuff just speaks to me. Always has man. Cool work.

Jason Manley, awesome piece! The setting and simplicity is very moving..

Hello again.

bwkeough, You know looking at your image I think I got there too late and I'm already in the middle of the story. I'm intrigued. It seems to me that a young man is on the mission, like he took a huge challenge to make a breakthrough for his people and creatures ( I think the green ones are on the same side as him, or they are hostages.). The story is not clear for me though, I don't know what he wants to accomplish in the end and from what he wants to escape. I like the suspense, lingering effect. I feel like I'm in the crowd, waiting fro something. I just don't know if those people are desperate, because some pf them are quiet passive observers and I don't see the opposite side.

Main Loop I love this giant figure moving like a storm through the city. The city is functioning, people go about their business, but it is not the same rhythm, something broken in normal lives of them. They are aware about something abnormal happening, they are trying to protect themselves, wearing new advertised protection from aliens, but from time to time the strange things happened, person near you suddenly feel pain in her heart and burning in her hand and before anyone can do anything she is dead.

No one understands what's happening, but they know it is beyond their understanding and control, so life should go one.

The chosen ones are never to be seen again.
The figure of God or Some kind of Angel of Revenge is beautiful. I'm really glad that you caught this effect, of something surreal and powerful and indifferent to human pain . He goes through the city with almost gentle beautiful smile on his lips. I do have a worrisome feeling looking at your image and in the same time I admire the beauty of this scene. This lighting and free of fear long brushstrokes and transparency create this impression, of something not human, something beautiful and scary.

Foreground figures spoil effect a little for me though. The gap between them is gap in composition, I wish the rays went farther on through the stricken women. I wish you connected the foreground and BG more. And maybe connect all the objects in the paintings more, there are some empty spaces in the image. I think you need to work on composition more.
Love your entry anyway. One of my most favorite, I saved it because I never saw anything painted that beautifully and expressively as the figure of the God indifferently destroying the city on his way out.

Poise, Charming, Tiffany, this is too, one of my favorite images.
I see lovely curious young Japanese women. There are so many hints on the characters of those lovely girls. They are nosy, curious like little animals, like children to the degree they don't even feel danger. They were apparently raised in best traditional Japanese way, naive, out of touch with reality, sweet, very feminine, very gentle, living in their small beautiful world. Like lovely statures, part of the interior of the house.
So here the old drawing in the rich house where they live is going through the strange metamorphosis. Huge octopus depicted on it is getting real and pouring out of picture. Huge energy and great feeling of motion in this one. And I like this effect of opposite between fragile elegant figures of the girls and the powerful out if control silhouette of the creature.
Like the similarity between the two girls. the don't know anything, they were raise to please, so they don't even have any independent feelings and thought from their owner. So sweet and funny.
Beautiful colors and textures and light effects and composition. Maybe I wish you defined the broken precious vase a bit more, made it look more ancient or expensive, especially the neck of it.
But nevertheless it is a terrific image, I saved it.

SprayNation I like colors in your painting and how you did these lighting's effects. Sky is beautiful too. I think the figures look a bit wonky, perspective wrong especially on the girl. The hair is blowing the wrong way too, I think, comparing to the angle of the bike.

bumskee Wow, this fly is seriously overweight, if it escapes successfully it will be a real miracle, it is out of shape. I like the combination of the red/ orange and this shade of blue. I wish you put some humorous expression on the face of the fly, otherwise it is not much information for viewer to digest. Maybe it would be better to put some highlights on the fly, make it closer to us, separate it more from the BG.

Ghill That's ultimate escape with no return. I wonder why he took off his shoes before doing this. There could be some story from this. I imagine him taking them off and giving them to first homeless person he saw, just to destroy the last connection to this world for him, he really liked those shoes. No shoes, no regrets. Technically speaking the foreshortening is a bit wrong, in my opinion. Mainly in the size of the feet.

Mr. Blonde I have mixed feelings looking at your image. I feel disgust and my heart is falling down looking at what those bastard did to the guy in the chair, and I feel like laughing looking at their improvised meeting, with their leader, gesticulating a lot and the less important robots listening to him with bored faces on their back and the robot who are responsible to do all the dirty work is getting all agitated, blinking with huge exclamation mark in total silence. Funny hierarchy, funny structure of society. Very human like and feel robots :).

fedezz Beautiful rendering and colors and motion, I guess the escape is only losing consciousness in this situation.

kian Really like how rich in nuances your colors are, especially purple/lilac. Beautiful rendering and composition and action.

MIKECORRIERO I like the slanted bike and water coming through the destroyed bridge and how you did splashes and motion. Good composition of the picture too. I wish you dissolved the ship more in the air to make the painting deeper. I think birds in front of the light source should be more contrasting, almost black, very dark comparing the ones on the blue sky. Maybe some lighting play on the smoke would add to the volume too. And I wish you give me more hints who this guy is. I guess he is some flibustier, out law, maybe bad guy, but very sympathetic somehow.

Tyranx I'm not sure who is escaping, I see a chase, but I don't see who they are chasing and why. It could be a war or hunt. A little more information about characters would be appreciated.

RasselTassel Your image is funny in many ways for me. The energy in it is huge, the same in children', boys' drawings of war battles when they are so agitated and passionate. It is is overwhelming and contagious the same way in your image when I look and participate in the action. The peaceful tube full of water prepared for relaxing bath is very funny too. It is really a crazy story. Great motion, but I wish you worked more at it providing you would be able to save all this great energy.

cotron Beautifully executed and full of meaning image. And I feel strange looking at it. I feel compassion and curiosity and disgust and admiration of the happening. The spirit coming put is really beautiful. And despite the horror and pain of the poor old man the expression of the face
and body language of the ghost is peaceful. I like the simplicity and elegant execution. So sad and beautiful in the same time.
It is touching for me personally how people are trying to understand and feel and find rational sense in our existence on the Earth, and how little we know. And how huge and powerful it is comparing to us.

Ninja_ASSN You caught this feeling of no gravity very nicely.

0kelvin My God, what a crazy happening. I think the guy is not in control of the situation, for a change he is a toy and being carried away. Toys look sinister with this lighting, who would've thought. Funny that they are built themselves into a huge transformer. Such a cute faces and such a military looking silhouette. it is funny.

Amish Commy I'm starting to understand what you meant by saying if I like the first image in the LMS I will like this one too. Heheh. You know me that well already :). But I like the sadness in this one. I think the girl is envy of the little canary, the bird is flying away free, the girl is standing restrained. She doesn't have her own will, neither freedom of movement or right to be an owner of her own body. I don't know what is holding her, a promise or debt or dependency, but there is no feelings from her to the person behind her. She is indifferent to him, doesn't feel his touch. She just looks at the flying away bird and wish it was her.

staceydiana I like sky and lighting in your image. I think there is slight contradiction in a very stylized rider and his horse and the pretty much realistic landscape.

krytical error Funny little pirate and funny little ship. really like the effect of the half wet letter.
I wish you did the water more interesting. just a bit too stylised in my opinion, not too much information for eyes.

Giovanni I like the effect of water everywhere and storm and swaying

Nose, lips and necklace of the guy in front view are terrific. I wish you separated him a little bit more from the rest of the image. Although it does add to the chaotic feeling from the unusual event.

Like I said before, awesome job everyone! Just wanted to pop back in and give some shoutouts to the pieces that really made my eyes sparkle :-)

Proteus: Really really nice job on this! I'm getting a major Lost Planet vibe from this image.

m@: Definetely not what I expected from you. I thought I was going to see some crazy robot action piece, but I'm really happy with what you did here.

DavidSmit: I love how you handled the buildings here. Also, I like how the characters are obviously in motion, but the gestures are so subtle but effective. The sky is purdy, too!

yAdam: Jeez man. I like how you utilized the canvas' space. Nice sense of depth you've got here. Kind of got me worried about how things will turn out with the judging. Good luck!

Dutton: Haha. I showed the tdome entries to a bunch of my art buddies and a lot of them loved your entry (as do I). It's just so playful and funny, and really well done. :)

Nicolas: One of my favorites from you and this round. The train, the cape, and the concept are all top notch. I've always loved your little logos and your little sidebar of toons. Really nice touch. I need to get a print of this!

Hurricane: Haha. Those hairymen just look incredibly silly! I love their expressions. Nice lighting, too!

Poise: Awesome concept. Just so awesome awesome. I love octopi and I love this. You need to sell prints of this one, too!

Bumskee: Another one of my favorites. I honestly don't know what type of character that is that's escaping, but man..the explosion and the flames and the faces..So gorgeous. Some of the best digitally painted flames I've seen in a long time!

Mr. Blonde: Hahah. The red x. How charming. Is the exclamation mark supposed to be a tribute to Metal Gear? :p

Mikecorriero: Really nice job on this one. I wasn't sure what to expect from you, considering the fact that you stated you had only had a few days to work on your tdome piece. The 2 suns is my favorite part.

Tyranx: I'm glad someone did some sort of spaceship dogfighting! Lots of diagnols=lots of dynamicism! The silhouette in the background is killer!

RasselTassel: Haha. This is so much better than what you first showed me. Aren't you glad I helped you out ;). I would looove to see this happen in real life!

Cotron: Man..The soul is just gorgeous. Really nice choice of colors on this one.

Giovanni: Excellent composition and nice dynamic perspective!

Viag: Nice epic scene. Excellent use of space and cinematic vibe. The yellow-greens are really beautiful, too!

Shellywan: Really really really pretty. It's like the kind of painting you'd expect from Mead Schaefer and Charles Gibson. My favorite bit is actually the bird cage, though. I love the soft yellow glow :p

Loomer: This painting reminded me how much I love your texture work. The monster has a very weird but beautiful texture to it. Makes me want to touch it...and not!

DavePalumbo: I really hope you get the kudos that you deserve from this one. It belongs in a library. No, it belongs in every library! This actually made me want to get back into reading books. You almost got me!!

El Coro: Jeez, man. This is like the perfect portfolio piece. It shows off your fine art skills and illustrative skills. Realism and fantasy. And most importantly your interpretational skills. Nicely done!

Iconophobian: Goodness, these colors are just juicy. It's like you painted this piece with Skittles!

Vyle: Another epic scene. Did you and Viag word side by side on your tdome pieces? :-p Love the red hair!

Rusty: Haaha. I can't get enough of this one. Everytime I see it I crack up. You've got some really nice characters in there, but none of them come close to the Fart Ninja. I demand a Fart Ninja illo if you haven't already done one!

Summer Pudding: Beautiful lighting. Those reflections are killer!

JasonChan: Very interesting interpretation of the theme. Very simple and very exquisite!

Matt Dixon: First thing that came to mind was Starship Troopers. I love that movie almost as much as I love this!

<3

Good afternoon :). :}

whoami Interesting swimming device you invented for the escape, I have this association with Jules Verne inventive mind. More of it because ofhuge old map he stole and the interesting gesture of he giant trying to grab the shining track of left from speed. Figure of the thief is wonderful so full of life and motion.

viag Is it happy return of expedition? Feeling of relief in this picture.

RobRey Very expressive, the interaction between main character andher hallucination is huge, although they are at distance with each other, the connection between them is awesome, eyes just travel from those twoYoints. It is very involving piece too. I feel desperation and fear very strongly.

Dougbot Is the escape on the other side and she needs to go through all the beasts in order to survive? I wish the colors were more exciting, they are just very calm, and subdued, good body language though.

redehlert That's a biological weapon of new type, to sprinkle ink into chaser eyes and mouth. Hungry? Eat this! :). Very nice feeling of deepness of ocean, the very bottom of it in your entry, Dave. Gruesome and exciting and mysterious and adventures.

Shamagim That's funny. They were messing with a huge sleeping baboon, climbing in and out of his nose, so is it escape? or they are flying far away against their will after natural sneeze? :).Wish you worked more on this piece, the baboon got more attention and he has more details about his character.

nacho very sweet, little child in eyeglasses escaping from peers pressure in a quiet place and drawing supermen to calm his nerves. Nice mood in this one, a bit sad and compassionate. Brushstrokes and colors are very comforting.

dreckster That's cute, bad guy is escaping from a funny teddy bear. I like the idea, wish you worked more to combine ll the details and objects in the composition it is a bit raw and spotty, i think.

theincredibleandy Wings are beautiful in the dragon and twist of its body, composition is not the best though in my opinion, too much of the empty space, I think. I like the texture of the shore from above, looks truthful in the day time lighting.

Sinix I like the style of your entry, very laconic and elegant and I like the french title. makes it even more stylish. I like colors and fast manner to paint. Just wonder if he escaped because some explosion in the prison or he ran away from the train?

shelly wan Absolutely agree with some one's opinion in the lounge about your entry, it has a very strong association and feel of the Stanley Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon".
Although your story is apparently a fantasy and his was a very cruel reality with big money and rich heirs involved. still there is the same mood in this dark room. The very strong feeling of manipulation, a lie, of something very phony.

It is not random that the room is dark, it is easy to hide that feelings are not genuine at all, and that's there is a plot against the fragile looking man. His life forces are dried up, he looks almost half dead. I think he knows that he was being lied to, that they lead him somewhere against his will, manipulating him, but he is so past of the happy times when he was so light hearted and proud with attention of all those brilliant effective women, chatting and laughing like careless bird. He is stuck now and deprived of his own will and he is slowly drowning in the lie they wrapped him in.

Wonderful expression of the faces, and atmosphere of the 18th century, flirting, brilliant on the surface, cruel in the deep, with abundant flatter to smooth and succeed in the destination, goal.
These women are great actresses, their poses and faces are very precise, they know what they want and what buttons they need to press for needed effects.

You added some fantasy details to painting like slippery snake bodies and tails, I think it adds to the sensation of something fraud more than to the story. And it is intriguing. I think that's why you added it :). To make us wanting to know why? :). Wonderful manipulation of your viewer from your side in my opinion.

I agree with observation that hands of the man and woman whispering sweet lies in his ear are not very well done. Maybe you did the hand of the woman to look nonhuman on purpose, but the man hand idefinitely needs more painting, I think. And the lacy jabot of the man a bit too light I think, although it does draw my eye to him and to his dead face eventually. A bit darker shade would do the same effect though. I think.
Although canary is escaping, there is no escape for the man in this richly embellished room, he is an empty shell with stolen soul already.
One more association, the world outside of the room is real, inside is phony.

gorillagrin looks like inspired by world we live in, I feel worrisome and sad looking at the desperate attempt of those people to escape. But air baloon is not competitions to high speed planes.
Technically speaking I wish you add to the air balloon more volume, highlights, because without that it looks flat and the perspective looks a bit strange.

Shadoman Cool feeling of motion and speed and chaos in your picture but I always wonder when I see using shades in one picture which are impossible to exist in one reality together, in my opinion.
This blue should be mixed with shade of orange, or be warmer. There is no wall or barrier in the air,the temperature of these colors should be the same. There should be feeling of one reality in the picture, even if you wanted to show that they need to make a little more efforts to be on the safe side.

ploboyko That's a very beautiful illustration, I wish it was more book with pictures like this. Very tasteful and elegant and a real pleasure to look at these textures and colors and magic.
Great composition! Maybe it would be better to define a silhouette of the evil spirit more, I didn't see his body right away, the released spirits kind of blocked it.

Gloominati The action is there, but you need to define forms better and use colors more expressively, in my opinion.

TheBrave Ohh, I still don't know if it is OK to escape from reality like this. It looks so crazy from the distance, but so sweet when you are the main character. It is pathetic and gives you total freedom from any doubts and insecurities. You can be anything you want, just train your bottom muscles to sit longer and hand not to shake in needed moment. Like any addiction it frees you from old troubles and drowns you in new ones. Nice composition and faces expression.

Loomer Man, you just can't find a quiet place to relax these days, those idiots will find you anywhere. Well he was sleeping peacefully, but not for too long because some people have constant itching to create a trouble. He was OK with them building sand castles on his back, but they did something real stupid. Screamed loudly into his ear, or tried to take some piece of him as a memory gift.
Funny escape, wonder if he remembers where they parked their space ship.

Fellah Beautiful flight, Simon, even though it seems that bullets are useless for these kind of flying rocks. Shooting up close and I think she just lost the balance, stability of the flight. You drew them approaching the couple very fast, scarily fast. In one second they were like two dragons away, and the next moment she needs to shoot right into it.
And I think in the last picture the creature is riding the dragon itself.
Beautiful attractive people as always in your art.
Never saw the creature like this a rock and improvise mouth like tightly tied rope. interesting. And no eyes which makes them very evil looking.

My favorite the first picture with a beautiful flight, a lot of air in it, makes my lungs wider, and the picture with interesting pose of the women looking back and kicking the chaser with her foot.
Like the beautiful tail of the dragon the most and white gentle neck of the beautiful girl.

JoshuaTheJames I like the descending motion in this picture and characters , but I wish you put more detail and information in this picture. Nevertheless this slipping down the hill feeling is terrific. really involving.

Dirty_C What a creepy room and the whole experiment. Real sad feeling of hopeless situation with nothing to be change. You make my heart feel fear and disgust and horror. And I think these cold crystal colors add to the strange sensation of something being out of any control. Something that was already established long time ago and was proceeding without any interpretation and moral regrets... Until now...
But I really can't imagine what will happen next, the baby looks so weak and helpless.
I like the feeling of confusion and realisation of system not being perfectly planned though.

clubb I think figures are a bit too stiff and rigid for all the action scene.

DavePalumbo :). You are making this book irresistible, using all kinds of ways to plant seeds of interest into the head of your viewer. It has everything to loose my mind over it. Adventure, beautiful women, a one-eyed hero ( chicks dig scars, eh?), a danger, evil creature. I'm surprised not seeing little following text after the entry "you can buy this book for just 19.99 at Amazon. com . Author is yours truly Dave Palumbo. Profits might be shared with many charities organisations:).

Well, what can I add, the composition is great and the face of the main character is real gold, so interesting and full of personality. A bit of arrogant too ;), which is very good for any story :).

yeah it was a great way to escape before Internet.
Faces are great in the entry, very precise expressions.

el coro
Well, when it is literal, no need to say it in words. Lighting it is wonderful, and colors. In the second I wonder if the bums really have their own responsibilities too? I thought they are close to nirvana state when it is not raining or snowing. Well, live and learn, everyone has his own heavy thoughts to escape. Like loving some beastly women and need to drown his brains dead for forcing himself. One more inhale and I'm all yours, honey.

poshspice I interpret your image like the one of the crusade knights need to kill his angel in order to accomplish his coals, kill his conscience or compassion.

Thanks for the crit Sve. You really made an effort with these. Don't take the characters too literally. There is an escape story behind this, but I'll leave it open. Thankyou also for taking the time to criticise without saying 'I like this - I hate that' and not explaining why. Feedback is really important with art, not blank opinions, as like arseholes we all have them. Not my best piece, but as I said to Kian, if you close one eye and wave your hand really fast in front of the other it sure improves it. :)

Man, you got me with words like this, I'm all here here sitting in your hand with open mouth. I love puzzles :). Well, I would like to try more, but not sure I will crack this secret code. I'm afraid we have different life experience and culture references, I don't see totally different associations from my first one. If you don't mind I would like to think loud a bit more.
Well, not to take the characters literally but assuming that you chose woman and man for your story on purpose, I would think he is killing his old beliefs, maybe his old feeling, attachment, trust, love.

Yeah, it might be he is murdering his adoration or he is killing his old religious feeling. As far as I know this thrust with sword under ribs was kind of ... how to say it... noble gesture in murdering business. it follows with immediate death without long suffering. Christ and the other two were killed in this fashion after long day of hanging on cross.

The feeling he killed was reborn again but in new incarnation. totally new, an opposite.
I see of course hint on Bible story but really don't know what to think. I don't think the cross on his back is random. The woman, the spirit is beautiful and I can see you want my sympathy on her side. Well, I can only come with story of long obsesion and total diametrical change of the mindset, destruction of old beliefs, or old and long time adored priorities. I see it as cordially change of the mindset of the person. The woman is his view, his attitude to the world, kind of destruction of the trust and belief in beauty of the world.
That's all, I'm sorry. I need to work at my education, apparently I'm lacking in it. Maybe you will tell me, privately :).
Thank you for the kind words and you are funny and sweet and witty, and come on, your image is one of the best, it's just I'm a bit dumb.

sve, thanks so much for taking the time to reply to everyone. Much appreciated all the way around, I'm sure...

Sve, like Cody said, thanks, and I think everyone appreciates it. We as artists sometimes use imagery blindly or sometimes it comes from our subconscious, and we ourselves don't want to label it because we don't fully understand it. Or maybe we don't want to label it in front of others because we don't want to take away from the experiience of others, but it doesn't make those conclusions wrong. It's the form of our expression and the way we choose to approach it. I saw alot of the same things you did, but you also shed light on things in a totally different way that makes any artist appreciate the uncertainty of what we do (atleast I can say that about my piece).
In posh's piece, I will say that when you use imagery like crusade style attire and angels/demons, it will point your piece in that direction whether you like it or not. When you choose imagery like that, it will reflect it's origins, which I think sve and others might have gathered. I didn't gather that same exact conclusion, but I very well understand it, beliefs or not.
Sve, I think the fact that you pull so much from a piece shows your education/personal experience, and that's what it's all about: making someone else's art personal. It may not have been the artist’s intention all the time, but that's just a reflection of the artist's communication with his or her viewer. Without dragging this out anymore, I just wanna say again thank you for making us appreciate our work and others in a new light, and making it more real for all of us.

Me again. Last time I promise.

Kenji , It is very clever to use the things like the electric saw in the picture, art has limitations in its ability to deliver the message but object like this add sounds to the image through association. So I hear the unnerving high pinch sound in my ears while looking at your image. I like that you just suggesting the objects and details, I always like this manner in people art, ( probably because I do the opposite).
As a note I would like to add that the colors divide picture too much, maybe it souls be better to find some other shades closer on the color wheel. but they sure make the happening very dramatic. I might suggest to add more craziness to your psychopath in body language or silhouette.

BDFoster Very nice illustration, anatomy , poses and colors. Action painted very expressively. I just think the left arm of the dragon is hard to read, not that obvious for me and I need to look longer to understand the position in the space (probably because of the colors, they are very close to each other). I like the lighting on the riders and the very elaborated and beautiful bike.

Iconophobian There is nice magic feeling of slow motion in your painting. I think it's because of the deep blue colors, it bring association with aquarium or ocean to me, where everything is indefinite and unpredictable and sounds are silenced by thickness of water.
You had the same thing going in your Girl Thunderdome, kind of look from a distance, far away with time and miles between the happening and us, viewers.

And in the new image the confused face of the girl and some undecidedness in her pose and how she throws balls of fire and they fly and we see the traction, all this creates the feeling of not normal, surreal happening.
Like it is happening fast in reality, but very slowly, abnormally slowly in the mind of the heroine.

The soft, very mild colors and brushstrokes suggest the same to me. Not very sharp, a bit blunted sensation, like defensive reaction of our organism and mind in the very stressed extreme moments of our life. With purpose to postpone the shock and crucial destruction of our body and nerves in this important minutes.

My favorite parts of the painting are the figure of the girl, her face and balls of fire.

Vyle What a strange happening in the picture. I guess we are witnesses a hero, taking the hardest role on herself saving her people from the death. Very precise body language of the figures, I like how you painted BG of the image, but foreground look not that well thought out, there are some empty spaces and the smooth surface of the structure in front of the happening kind of distracts me. I think it has too sharp outlines considering that everything else is half hidden in fog.

Yumiko You are talking a lot through color ann textures in your image. Personally for me your painting has a lot of awaking memories and association with what I saw and heard in my childhood. I grew up listening of old Mongol legends and myth. And they had the same mood.
Admiration of physical power, cult of the fit body, love of speed, sort of sportsman qualities. Landscape is looking very close too, very powerful, solid, domineering tough nature. Country of the warriors and cruel conquerors.

Colors are very mature and confident. There are not one hint on the weakness in the image, everything is very intimidating. Partly it is effect of using opaque colors.

And of course hidden figure is the gentlest shade in the picture. Unsuitable to fight back. So escape is the way to go in this case.

I would suggest to put some highlights or some lighter shades on the knees of the horses and shoulders and helmets of the riders. They look very powerful and gruesome being that dark, but it will bring more deepness to the picture and I think it will make the foreshortening even more believable.
Overall, I like the colors in your image very much, they are unusual and fresh and very talking.

iolarnula I think because of the very soft texture of the sky in your image it would be better to wrap your objects more in the air, you know. They look a bit too sketchy and it kind of kills the atmospheric effect. Stylised sky is beautiful in your image.

Joiton . You know whenever I look at your images I very often feel like you have a great fun at my expense. Starting from the first image in LMS2.
I think you give just enough information to make my thoughts go in circle and it is kind of frustrating and irritating a bit. And it is a good thing, because it is emotion and it is really frustrating because i feel like I know only half of the words you are telling me.
The only thing I got from this you were smiling when you drew this and that the girl is a nonconformist in best or just total nuts in the worst scenario. I think she escaped from some sort of forceful imprisonment. She was counting days while she was there striking them in fours using her skin (:$) . I have no idea what the exclamation marks mean, probably she is not all there in her head. and I refuse to comment on green spirit.
I think you have the most playful mind on this site.

loizze :$. OK. I think we have some agreement between the players in this match. You guys are rebels. You should have been born 70 years ago and be 20 years old in let say 1950th years when it was the sexual revolution going on. hippie, flower children, no limits, no borders, all that stuff. I just say I like stylisation in your image. If it is an escape then it's wild one.

Snarfevs The main character face and pose is funny, although maybe you didn't want this effect, but this glasses are hilarious. He has this kind of fancy guy look and outfit, like popular singer. I think it is not good to mix styles so much, going for cartoonish look at one part of the image and very realistic, textured in another. It looks like you didn't think it out too well.
The guy makes my smile every time I see him. Kind of Austin Powers type of dude :).

Rusty I don't think an escape is happening right now in your picture.
More like planning or wanting to escape from the day routine which makes his brain half dead.

The little guy with huge worrisome eyes and signs of hard life is about to flip out, to lose control of himself. It will be a lot of action next moment, he will do something extraordinary the first time in his life. Just there is a limit of what a guy can tolerate.

It is probably already happening.

And when he is descending or ascending up in the elevator, his brains are working super intense, in full power and some fantastic, unbelievable , monstrous plans and images are floating in his mind.

It will be ugly, this escape of brains into craziness.

Summer Pudding You know, Pete, I already saw one time the unusual ability of a person, he was a poet, Russian poet, my contemporary, to feel and express the experience of other people as his own, very truthfully. I mean the ability to soak up the other person life events, other person feelings and transfer it through some form of art as his own, very believable.

I doubt you had this experience in the past hiding in the swamp from chase and looking at people with guns walking around you and being ready to shoot you.

But I see it like I'm sitting near you, main character, and my heart is dying several times in five minutes from every move those people make, toward me or from me. Great precise emotion and the most amazing thing it is done through colors and lighting mostly, I don't even see faces.
A body language and some little hints like guns being ready to use are very important and expressive too in your image..
You had the same effect in your submarine image. Hope you update soon. It was ages already.

Terrific job and you are really great artist, Pete, I'm telling you this without any flatter. You are a great manipulator, the best compliment to artist I think. Means, you are able to have a great communication with your viewer, the ultimate honesty and openness.

Badger Really beautiful, gentle combination of colors in your image, very refined sense of colors. And I like the simplified silhouettes in you painting. Such a gentle transition of shades, really beautiful. But it creates a calm relaxing feeling in me, so I see it more like kidnapping than escape, not expected kidnapping. Just the colors and poses of these people don't suggest that anything bad happening. It looks like well prepared action, but it is carried away without noise and panic.

Mythmaker I think the figures are bit static looking despite it is very fast happening action in the image and i wish you gave more deepness to the image, using dorm tricks to separate BG from FG. All objects have approximately the same sharp outlines, make it hard job for eyes and brains to analyse the picture.

Romance One of my favorite images in this Dome. Great effects and atmosphere and characters and story telling. And in the end the bad boys always have the most interesting roles in any story.
Really beautiful image. I want too look more at those lazy guys on the sofas with soft pillows. I suspect those dudes don't even know what reality is, they are always hanging out in their escape and whenever they need to stick their head out of it, they don't understand anything and just look with crazy eyes on strange silhouettes in front of them. The hashish is in their eyes and brains and in the wrinkles of their brownish unhealthy skin.
Perfect image and I never saw the smoked room depicted so truthfully, it is a picture with the smell and sounds, rare thing.

Jason Chan Beautiful girl, beautiful rendering. I could have said it is a silent picture because of the colors, they are kind of quiet, but you put headset on her, so it supposed to be quiet. So I agree it is very nice girl who does escape from reality into music but does it without making other people miserable. Lovely effect of the light coming though grid on the floor and her body.

Matt Dixon Hmm, I guess it is just that kind of girl who doesn't run in any circumstances and escape for her it is just literally to make a a brand-new hole in the body of her enemy standing and blocking her way. :). Just that kind of persoanlity. Some other would call it agressive atttack, but you call it the only posiible escape :). It is understandable, that's your personality. :). your ability to see humour in most everything. I always liked it in your art.

You will disagree, because the effects are very beautiful in this image, but I would prefer Bg painted darker and duller. Just to make the main character the most important focus of the viewer. This shade of purple is very beautiful, but it is very active too, almost the same as fire and even more attention grabber then the monster or girl. And it doesn't carry that much information at all, but you make me slant my eye in this corner of the image, just because you probably don't want to destroy this lovely color. I would sacrifice it for better compostion.

Jason Manley Your image has very many symbols which effect our brains in certain way, always in certain way as result of our life experience.
Sunset, ocean, waves, not strong ones, pretty small, and as assumption monotone, casual outfit (sweatshirt), foot prints on the sand (and btw, the prints are going in circle as repetitive, comforting motion.) All these are very strong indication of certain mood: desire of silence, extreme tiredness, moment of relaxation and desire to be alone and be deaf and maybe even blind. That why you chose the grey image, it is ultimate state of tiredness, when person doesn't want any obnoxious loud colors or sounds. Everything effective and bright just irritates tired nerves. The repetitive motion and darkness are like refuge and promise of restoration.

Bowlin OMG, You overdid it for me, a little too much, my sympathy goes to the slaughtered bad guys. Just so much blood, wonder how he managed to do it in the air, flying. He got some potentials, this dude. Really nice lighting effect, very beautiful and I like the foreshortening.

magicgoo Poor little mermaid, got lost in the strange dangerous place. Do the octopus eat little mermaids? I'm so ignorant. I think it is a beautiful design, I think it could be even better. I personally think her hand gesture is not expressive enough, could be much more telling, like showing her inner state more, being startled or disgusted, or asking for help. I think it would be great to enrich the color palette a little bit, maybe to make some beautiful transition of colors. The composition is lovely though. I love the texture and rhythm those lines create.

Robot That's right, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, French philosopher, called us to return to our primary bases, nature. Take off our shoes and be like just born, not spoiled by civilization.
Very expressive. could be like very much needed poster for extremely stressed places. Maybe some people will hear you. Green Party should hear you in any case. Like Travolta said " I dig propaganda' in your image.

I hope you will disregard my words in case if you think differently, it is just one person opinion, no big deal.

Thanks Mr. Visions, very kind words, I'm grateful. Cool if it is so.

You should hear me talking. I have an accent. I will not be able to sell candy to the neighbour next door who likes me :). And I'm not that fond of the selling process at all. :). I think any art should belong to the person who likes it the most, not to the richest one. Yeah, I know, sounds crazy.

hey, accents are great for selling art ;)

And it seems like you interpreted my piece well hehe :)

the colors are not random, I wanted them hard on the eye on purpose (I guess my usual work proves I can do soft ones ), but well, it was kinda rushed and i don't personally like how it turned out either... I don't know why I feel like I should try new things each time in those challenges, instead of doing what I know and do well.

I adore the fact you feel obliged or inspired to try new things in those challenges. means you want your art to be a present for us viewer. You love us !!! You really love us!!! hahaha.
But come on, love your art a bit more, be original, hehehe.

I'm not able to write looking at your art most of the time because it is beautiful, nothing to criticize, you have your own integrated world and I don't dare to interfere with it.
But thank you so much for allowing me inside of your creative process. That's a real treat I always love. So the colors you chose were hard and demanding and straightforward on purpose. They are loud, those orange and blue, in my opinion, it is the most attention demanding combination. Hard to escape in your thoughts from these colors, they kind of keep us focus on reality. But he managed to escape. I see. interesting.

It is weird for me to read your thoughts, Rusty, because I always start from idea that nothing is random in art. All details have some reasons why they are included in the image. I even think that where you put dots and lines have some bases if an artist knows what he wants.
Look, I thought that maybe colors in m@'s image were random, and no, they were put there on pupose, were well thought out.
If nothing is random, then there is a certain idea in the image, I need to look carefully.

Hmm… I did say I’d come back later…

There’s a great deal of high quality work in here, but I just thought I’d mention a handful that I particularly enjoyed.

DavidSmit – Nice mood in this. I really like how the girl indicates some unseen threat outside of the frame – very effective.

Dutton – Great idea, very expressive and very well painted!

Mr Blonde – Loved the styling in this.

Okelvin – That must have taken flippin ages!

Viag – It looks complex and dramatic – yet simply constructed. These are skills I must learn!

Shelly – another beautiful piece! More understated than your first round, but no less worthy of merit!

El Coro – I really love the texture in the first piece – it feels so tangible.

Iconophobian – Painterly and dramatic – and a nice palette!

Jason Manley – I’m really drawn into this – it feels like a memory, or some thought captured in a frame. An amazing quality for a relatively simple piece.

Kudos to everyone who submitted an entry! - Too much awsomeness for one thread! :xpld:

Sve – Thanks for the critique! I’m sure you’re right – it feels more like an approximation of what it should have been. I spent too much time conceptualising when I should have just gone for it – I don’t have much experience with quick concept techniques, so I needed more time than I allowed. Oh well – My fault! :dur:

I don’t expect to be in the next round, and I’m already disappointed about that – but it’s been a great experience and I definitely want to be in the next one! ;)

Looks like the results could be posted today! :S

Holy shit...I seriously thought I lost. I'll work hard next round for Sham and Red, because I don't feel like I should be there, but they should! Off to round 3.

congrats to the winners!

hiding the name of authors like Aleksi suggested is a good idea.
will we have some sort of motivation behind each win or not? I would be interested in hearing that.

man its really too bad that these entries all suck so much:teeth:

(i keed i keed)

some of these are mind blowing....I really really want to get in on this thing whenever the next one comes around.

great job dudes, I love watching each round, its like a giant pokemon battle where all the pokemon are eye-meltingly beautiful and instead of shouting their names over and over again they shatter the world around me, and for a brief glimpse, i think I actually see god...

Congrats on beating us Ninja_ASSN! Congrats to all the rest of the winners as well!

I don't think hiding the names of authors is a good idea. Half the point of Thunderdome is for artists to show off, and discovering new talent that hadn't previously had a place to shine. Without names, we wouldn't know who to give props to, and who to keep an eye on in the future. And it wouldn't really help the judges be impartial, since most people can recognize which painting their friend did.

Great job everyone!

Man, always going out in the second round. Next time I'm making Round 3, I promise!

I second the motion, congrats Mr Blonde. And Kian, thanks for the comment on my image man, means a lot coming from you. This result was kinda surprising, I was sure that you were going to win with that kickass piece of yours.

fedezz: thanks mate! You were one of many who stepped it up this time around.. now I'm preparing to do my best for the next round... I really have to step it up if I want to have a chance against whatever monsters I'm up against!

kian: thanks : ) In a way, you won, because you don't have to get demolished by the crazy artworks of the inevitable beasts that will be in the next round!

congrats to all of those who participated, and all of those who won.

tyranx: you really found an awesome style there mate... every time I look at your piece I like it more.. great cow tutorial as well... very enlightening and well done!

Was round one taken down? I only see the round two results in this "finally finished" forum.

I have such trouble finding thunderdome results or when they start up :(

Great entries everyone, can't wait to see round 3!

A good thing for the last round would maybe to hide the name of the authors even if some styles are always easily recognizable (hard to give an objective opinion about friends) and having more judges.
Congrats to all the competitors.

Aleksi +1

Already posted in the other thread, but just wanted to reiterate a congratulations to all who advanced, and to everyone else who put up a helluva fight, including my opponent Hyver.
Heh, instead of savoring this brief moment of victory, I've been sweatin' bullets wondering who I'm going up against in the next round.

i feel like my match was mis judged. no offense to any of the judges, but i feel like Dave took me fair and square. i cant continue doing these and am planning to drop out anyway because im old, sick and too tired to continue on. would it be possible to have Dave take my place, since in my opinion i feel he did best me. not only that but i want to see more shit out of him as well :). he fought a great fight and deserves to continue on. please? is something like this possible? -c36

Having the "Coro36 bitch that's right motherfucker" avatar continually flash in my face while seeing this kind of respect, humility, and honor at the same time.... well, I think it's enough to make a man implode. Major props to you, Coro.

Dave im glad you are willing to move on. you are a bright young up and comer, and deserve the exposure much more than i do. make me proud you fucker and win this shit now! yay ca.-c36
