Looks like the other Montreal thread is doomed so I started this new one.

We saw at the workshop that there are Montrealers on CA, now let's get organised!

What do you guys want? Sketch groups? Monthly life drawing? A mailing list? Post your ideas here!

Btw I got the contact info of the blonde female model at the workshop, I tought she was quite good, and I might try to get the info on her male friend.
I'd like to have life drawing sessions, not something like Uqam but something we have a bit more control on.

St-Laurent des arts. They are a little co-op art store at 4633 St Laurent. I think you pay a $15 membership, but the prices are waaaaaay better than Omer. Selection isn't as good, but all the painting and drawing supplies are well represented.

I'm very interested in doing some life drawing. Excellent!

Last week I renewed my membership at the st laurent des arts store and asked about the life drawing. The guy said they stopped and may be starting again in the fall, but they needed to find a space to do it. He said that people weren't coming regularly and so they had to stop. =(

Is there anywhere else? I just want to draw!

Mokuu: those are actually classes with an instructor, hence the price, I'm not sure how good the instructor is but the Gallery itself is slightly dodgy from what I gathered from other artists.

Are there any new plans for life drawing sessions, never done any and have always wanted to. There's no places in Blainville - least that i know of, but im 20-30min from montreal so no problem to head down there (hell I do it for school).

And does anyone know of actual classes for life drawing, with a teacher helping you out along the way?

Heh, well after my post I decided to check if my school offered any outside of school hours, on weekends or something - they don't, but some teachers have an Atelier and I got a link to Concordia's website.

About alternance, ull get a steady schedule and reasonable amount of HW and info but the teacher talks very fast (due to her russian accent) and will teach you the classical way to tackle models. (Cost around 250$ call for more info)

There is also atelierdebresole.com that seems to have a great plan, yet looks like they give classes in the morning.

En fait, c'est pas mal le temps d'inscription pour pleins d'activités dans plusieurs centres de loisirs. J'ai reçu ceux de mon quartier. Tout dépend de ton niveau mais j'ai tendence à croire que pour quelqu'un qui est relativement débutant, commencer avec un cours dans le genre est non seulement éducatif mais accessible.

Pour quelqu'un qui sait déjà peindre et dessiner c'est une autre histoire.

I think it's a 10 or 15 weeks session (I'll go next week and bring back the program thing) you don't need to register, you just show up and pay your 3 or 8$ there's going to be more sessions this winter and spring. This thing has been going on for something like 15 years so it's not stoping any time soon. See you there!

I found a store that has wacoms of many formats on display, no special orders, I didn't see a cintiq but I didn't ask either maybe they have one. I was quite surprised as it's a store that doesn't sell computers, it was at LL Lozeau on plaza St Hubert.

(http://www.mbam.qc.ca/disney/index_en.html) Yes, I'm also suprised the Fine Arts museum would hold one of these but I think it's a nice opportunity to check it out since it's at our doorstep or almost! Animation and cartoon might not be your cup of tea but most of today's commercial art (games, movies, etc.) is in the same bag as Disney's stuff so don't miss out.

I will probably go there in a few weeks or so (when forever-crunch slows down aha :xpld: )

DSIllustration posted that there would be an Art out Loud in NYC on June 30rd but other details will be posted later. I was planning on going so maybe others would be interested to tag along, we could split gas cost or take the bus together or something. It's still a 6 hours trip so doing it alone can be painful.

Additionally, it would be fun to have a Mtl sketchgroup or a coop workshop/demo where we get together and share tips, maybe pool money to hire a model or two.

J'y &#233;tais, c'&#233;tait pas pire bien que un peu tass&#233;, je ne suis pas sure que chez Batiste est une bonne place pour &#231;a, c'est sombre et pas tr&#232;s grand et plusieurs personnes &#233;taient pogn&#233;es derri&#232;re avec peu de champ de vision. Par contre nous nous sommes bien amus&#233;s et j'imagine que l'organisation va prendre de l'experience et que ca va aller en s'am&#233;liorant.

J'y suis all&#233; et c'&#233;tait vraiment cool. La modele etait une sexy zombi, j'ai pus brancher mon portable et dessiner tranquille en buvant une biere... a refaire, assur&#233;ment. Les orga nous ont toutefois dit que ce ne serait plus Chez Baptiste mais dans un autre bar un peu mieux cot&#233; logistique.

Ils planifient d'en faire 1 par mois.

Lorsque j'y allais, il y a 3 ans de &#231;a, il y avait des soir&#233;es de Mod&#232;les Vivant.
Il pr&#233;f&#232;rais les longues poses pour faire de bonnes &#233;tudes.

Les propri&#233;taires de l'atelier sont des amis , d'&#233;coles, avec Carl Dobsky, un membre de CA et employee de Massive Black et directeur de l'&#233;cole CA.

À propos de Bohemiarte, il enseigne le New realisme. C'est du technique de painture hyper realiste.

À l'atelier Brésole, ils sont mieux organisés, à mon avis. Ils ont établi une méthodologie bien encadré les étuditans débutant et intémédiaires les pour renforcir les faiblessses en dessin académique. Ils sont plus jeunes, dans la trentaine, et prochable.

La meileur façon s'est de rencontrer les professeurs et voire si ça clic.

I might, it's not 100&#37; sure though. As for the size of the group, last week we must have been around 20, but the week before barely 10, so it depends. It's not embarassing or anything. They have chairs, large tables, small tables and easels. The two last models were very good too. (you can check my sketch book, there they are!)

Tu as connaissance de plusieurs portes et bien rentre dans toutes celles-ci! c.a.d. envoie ton portfolio par email ET en imprimé. Je ne suis pas de près l’évolution des concept artists à travers la compagnie mais même si ce n’est pas un temps propice pour une position en particulier, ce ne devrait pas t’empêcher de tout de même te faire connaitre.

Ouaip, et si tu as d'autres capacités (3d, animation) n'hésite pas à le mentionner, ici (Ubi Quebec) on a pas vraiment de concept artists à temps plein qui ne soient aussi capable de faire autre chose, alors j'imagine que c'est semblable pour les plus petits studios de Montreal (tu peux chercher sur le site du chapitre MTL du IGDA ou sur le site de l'alliance numeriqc pour des listes de studios dont tu n'as peut etre jamais entendu parlés.)

Le mieux est d avoir un site web , un blog ou une gallerie et d envoyer ca en lien par email.

Ubi recherche toujours des gens (par ex ils recherchent des concept artists pour un gros projet en ce moment). Mais envoie partout , on ne fait jamais trop de demandes et c est du coup pas mal d avoir le choix par la suite.

C est sur que c est préférable d être versatile et de savoir faire de tout , mais tu peux trouver des postes pour juste du character design ou de l environnement.

L' utilisation de la 3d commence a être un gros facteur et une demande dans le cv lors de l embauche. Le montage video est un plus aussi.

Au final les concept artists se transforment en mini directeurs artistiques , font une passe de 3d avant les modeleurs et retouchent du level design , du coup les connaissances dans pas mal de domaines (culture du jeu et du film) deviennent vraiment importantes.

En fds, on est allé à Shawinigan pour voir La vraie vie de Ron Mueck (http://www.beaux-arts.ca/vraievie/)
C'est un peu cher (15$) et il y a environ 8 pieces et un video + des trucs d'un autre artist qu fait du video burlesque machin (Guy Ben-Ner) qui me fait pas tripper. Mais les Mueck sont super hot (et le camping de l'Ile Melleville est vraiment cool.)

Désolée pour "l'anglah" mais bon...

I had the chance to go see Ron Mueck (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/gallery/2005/12/29/GA2005122900888_index_frames.htm?startat=1)’s exposition in Shawinigan (http://www.gallery.ca/english/540_2401.htm) last weekend. The show is on until the 28th of September (Sunday next week!!!). If you’re in the neighbourhood or if you’re on your way to or from of Quebec City, GO! It’s some 25 minutes away from Trois-Rivières.
So we left Québèc city around 11am and stopped in 3 Rivières at Il Circo (http://www.restaurantilcirco.com/contenu.php?section=acc) for an amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing brunch and drove straight to “Shawi”. They take you on a ferry kind thing and then to Alcan’s old mill which has been turned into a really nice expo hall (a bit like Montreal’s La Fonderie Darling times 20). Although it’s a joint expo with Guy Ben-Ner, you’re immediately greeted by Ron Mueck’s work. Overall, it was great to see his work in person and see with your own eyes the details of texture, scale, etc. I was disappointed, though, to see only 6 of his pieces and not the ones I really wanted to examine… BUT there was quite a few maquettes and studies that show his process for his giant formats. *That* was priceless and a nice surprise.
So all in all, go if you are intruiged by his work and in the area but don’t get your hopes up too high. My partner was really upset by the other artist’s work though :D (performances, video, etc.)
I was chased after for taking a couple of blurry pics with my crappy phone to boot! :)

What pisses me off the most is that cyberpresse articles on the industry are ALWAYS flawed which looks like they’ve been written in a rush without comprehending all the info they’re given.

ca coute 25 $ de frais d inscription en te présentant soit le lundi ou le jeudi , probablement au 3e etage, c la que sont les salles pour les cours d illustrations. puis c est 3 $ du cours ou te présente je crois..
Si tu veux pas trop payé y a aussi au bar l Agité tous les derniers lundi du mois, y font des soirée de body painting et peinture en direct et ils invitent le monde a apporter leur materiel de dessin ou de peinture

La rétrospective proposée permettra d’illustrer comment les peintures de l’artiste reflètent son engagement pour les enjeux de son temps, notamment le médiévisme, l’héritage du classicisme, le spiritualisme et la Femme nouvelle. Ses toiles dégagent une fascination romantique exprimant les passions féminines exacerbées. Sous le charme mythique des enchanteresses, Waterhouse a créé un type de beauté féminine singulier. Il a choisi de peindre la Dame de Shalott, Ophélie, Mariana, Cléopâtre et la Belle Dame sans merci.Cette première rétrospective majeure comprend quelque 80 peintures de -Waterhouse, de même que de nombreuses études à la craie et au crayon. Plusieurs d’entre elles n’ont jamais été exposées depuis la mort de l’artiste.

I"m new to these forums, I was wondering if anyone could tell me where the Uqam life drawing is located? I know its near Berri-Uqam metro, but I don't really know where to go from there. And does anyone know the times it's on, short poses, long poses, ect? And any other life drawing happening in the city? I'd love to get involved but I don't know exactly where to start looking. I'd appreciate any info anyone can provide.
