Hmm, that's quite interesting. My brother was going a similar program for his Masters in Engineering, I don't think it could work from just one image though.
Some of those angles make the 3d model seem a little odd, but it's still good stuff.
We already have the technology to create a "3D Photocopier", as long as you're copying solid, opaque objects.
