I know there's a lot of folks here that attend ateliers, like Watts
So what's the average atelier in America like these days?

Question attack:

1) What's the average student age?
(College foundation year is lame, there's a bunch of immature kids who don't do anything, which forces the teacher to lower their teaching to their level...wtf!)

2) What's the average class hours for a day? And are classes Monday through Friday?

3) Any homework / grades?

4) Is it 4 years for a degree? Wait...is there even a degree? If yes, is it a BFA? (I know degrees don't really matter all that much in the real world, but it does matter for my parents...) blah!

5) How does the atelier program go? 1st year = still lifes, 2nd year = figure drawing, 3rd = figure painting, etc etc?

6) Tuition?! Can we get any scholarships?! :)

Whew

Thanks for the time my friends!
;)

hey den, i recently checked out an atelier in toronto called www.academyofrealistart.com and recieved an email from them which pretty much lists there schedule and curriculum.

Approximate Length: 3–5 yrs

4 Bargue drawings (Level I)

2 cast drawings (charcoal) (Level II)

3 cast paintings (oil) (Level III)

3 still life paintings (oil) (Level IV)

1 Graduation piece, self-portrait, single figure composition, or still life.

Copies from the Masters (Recommended)

Figure Drawings (carbon pencil). Level IV the student begins painting figures (oil)
Graduate Programme

Working on a number of assignments consisting of portraiture, figure, still life. Working in and outside the studios under visiting masters.
Working Studio
Ongoing Open to students at all levels, work depends on the commission and level of experience. The student Apprentice will work on actual commissions such as mural panels (both figurative and decorative) and portraits. ARA students will also participate in International and local shows as a group. (from the email)

As for the schedule if your enrolled full time you get 24/7 access to the studio with various model drawing times and instructor lead work periods through out the week(monday to sunday) so its a fairly flexible schedule. I dont know if this is how all altliers are run but this is one example. Hope i answered some of your questions.
