Presenting a comic or manga

I was wondering this,

I want to make a comic just for the hell of it and see what people would think about it see if it could make it somewhere...

What would be a good way to appoarch this? Where should I start...the way I was thinking about it is -

Create the promo to present it...
Do some research on some companies...find a way to make it attract them...
