View Full Version : DSG 1001: Creature/Environment: ZOMBIE ELK BULL EMERGES FROM THE MISTY WOODS

[ The air is cold and still. ]

[ Wet leaves tear under hoof. ]

[ From the thick of speckled sycamore trees, and shrouded in an icy haze, it appears: A lone and horrifying creature, somehow still walking though it's muscles slowly atrophy and it's heart no longer beats. ]

[ That's just to put you in the mood. The trees need not be sycamore. ]

[ Again, I recommend you do an image search, as you are unlikely to have a strong knowledge-base about elk already in your head. ]

[ Elk bulls are sturdy and noble looking with neck-length beards of thick dark hair, squared-off snouts (almost cow-like), and large impressive, antlers. ]

[ I think this could be a really creepy and evocative image. ]

I was really glad to see an organic topic today. I think I needed that.

I'm really, really proud of this one. I put 110% into it; this is one of the better things I've ever produced. I wish I could draw like this all the time..

Silvrain: I like it, the colors are very comfortable to look at, and you're pose is really calm which offsets the beast's current state.

Once the king of it's kind, this proud beast was scratched by an arrow, as it bled it's heart turned black with hatred, and what should have ended in death, became the undeath of all the forest.
painter, distracted :D 40?

Great concept for the day. Goran, I really like yours!
Lucky for me, I actually came across an entire herd of elk over Labor Day weekend last year and got to photograph them, including the bull from about twenty feet away. Here's mine:

Experimenting with Painter's oils...I don't think I like them. I can't work with them in real life...and as you can see here I can't work with them virtually. X(
Contrast upped in photoshop.

Everyone's looks so good! I am so jealous. *throws tablet*

Completely impressed with: Silvrain (:)), goran, digitalfly, Inkfish, Dutton, and Wulvz.

Gorgeous work today, everyone...

I'm sorry I wasn't able to do this one, but I'm really pleased that it recieved such a solid response. I actually wanna come back and comment in a more detailed way tomorrow, but figured I'd just give a generalized "kudos" to you folk right now.

asbestoshazard - I think that you shouldn't stop using oils. IMO you handled with them (not sure if it is right said in English ;)
and I'm agree that the not digital oils have some disadvantages - for example the smell of turpentine :P
