View Full Version : DSG 998: Scene: LARGE, SQUID-LIKE, BEAST IS CAUGHT IN THE HEADLIGHTS ON A LONELY ROAD

[ On the list of things you don't want to come across while driving in the middle of nowhere, this ranks pretty high. ]
[ Ranks pretty high for me, at least. ]
[ Then again, I get pretty stressed out that I'm gonna smack right into an eight-point buck, so the idea that some massive, fleshy, pinkish-grey cephalopod might impossibly appear in my path would absolutely rattle me. ]
[ The perspective might be from within the vehicle, or without... ]
[ Oooh I don't remember seeing this one: :lens: ]

2hrs 10mins, Photoshop.
I started this using just the standard smooth round brushs because doing gelatinous things with the textured brushs I usually use is a waste of time and effort, then it started to have this cartoony feel so I ran with it. I'm pretty happy with it, having not done cartoony stuff for a while, the lighting is a bit whack, ie why is it pitch black yet the whole ute lit? (lazy artist who hates backgrounds, thats why!!)

I liked the idea of a creature caught in headlights - the 'outside the vehicle'-approach struck me as the obvious angle for effect. Opinions appreciated - this is my first post :D

OpenCanvas! Mm, dark.
Some great takes on this.
matias' looks so squishy!
GreyBelly's reminds me of something out of a children's kooky book.
Neat perspectives from everyone; love to see all the different views.

Wow, Asbestos.. that's pretty nightmarish indeed.. Nice work on the lighting.
And thanks for the comment - it's by far the coolest compliment I've got in ages :D

Asbestos, fantastic work... the grit and texture to the scene feels very moody and creepy. I like the gentle fade of the fog from the left to right.

An interesting mutation has lead to quite an evolutionary leap, unfortunetly, the strong survive, and this invertebrea isn't quite strong enough to handle crossing roads, and it's luck is bound to end soon.

Some good posts lately.
I decided to try this one, awesome topic.
I was trying to go from the reflection of the eye of the squid... always wanted to try a pic like that:

I might have focused less on mountains and more on seashore as the backdrop for this scene.... I guess the term "Squidfoot" would be applicable here.

Good work, guys...
I have no special plans for #1000... I'll just make up the topic on the spot as usual, and what kind of response it gets will be as difficult for me to predict as always.
[ :teeth: ]
Frankly, I don't know what I could do differently. I think that what will make it "special" or not will have everything to do with what kind of participation there is.
Although I have been suprised by how unpredictable the responses can be to any given topic, I will endeavour to come up with something extra cool.
Sorry I haven't been around for the past few days, by the way... My artistic energies for any given day are limited, and I've been working on making some small figurines that I try to sell.
Blah blah blah.
Okay, off I go to post today's topic...

i was having issues uploading this image onto the internet last night, that's why it didn't get posted earlier. sorry.
from doing this, i've learned that i need to work on light reflections off of slimy/wet surfaces and... uhm, just lighting in general.
